I have been involved in basketball for nearly 60 years and I don't think that I've seen that call more than 2 or 3 times in all those years.
In my nearly four decades as an official I don't think that I've ever made that call.
At that point in the game that's an official who just wants to show everyone that he knows one of the most obscure rules.

I have no problem with the call. We are all told that you cant move on an inbounds play unless it’s after a made basket. I’ve actually never read the rule itself, but i have understood it and have always abided by it.

If you’re referring to the Caleb shuffling his feet on the inbounds, it was absolutely the right call.
Baloney. The defensive player should have been forced to give him 3 feet. Similar thing happened when Mulcahy blew an inbounds last year... a defender literally jump out of bounds to block his path to a player which forced the time to get too tight for 5 seconds which resulted in a turnover and a LOSS.

This was similar, but not as bad. McConnel got his 3 feet by taking a step.. he wasn't tunning the baseline or anything like that. Awful call.

You have to be kidding. Have seen it called many times, because it's traveling. Open shut case. Bonehead play by Caleb, who had a good game until the end with that and the shot clock violation.

If only that same official decided to demonstrate that he knows how the player out of bounds rule works against Ohio State.

Having said that, it was the correct call.

yep. once edey touches it the game is over. dumb decision by caleb

It was one of the few calls I actually thought was correct down the stretch. That’s not the one to be upset over
This.. I can agree with.. the refs were awful in the first half and Purdue ended up with 28 FTs to our 11. Making 10 more and us.. made 8 more than we attempted. The first 2 charge calls were awful. As was the last. I think 2 were fair.. I think that's all teh charge calls. that's 3 turnovers given to Purdue for no good reason. I think we got beneficial blown calls twice. But the blown calls in Purdues favor went way beyond the 3 bogus charge calls. As an example, you have the last blocking foul on McConnel.. played great D and the Purdue player steps on his foot while traveling. An insane call to make.

In general, the refs did a much better job in the 2nd half... but we had to beat the refs AND Purdue.

And did!

it is absolutely a rule and it is not an obscure one....'

Caleb should have asked for room. Mental mistake that he should have known better
That much is true. But he should not have HAD to ask. The ref should have made room. The ref set up that call then called it. They were advising Calebn all night on not "showing them up". Those refs deserved to be "shown up" after that first half.

It was absolutely the right call and all players should know that if it’s not after score, you can’t move you just have to throw it in love Caleb but he had to mental errors tonight that he needs to grow from down the stretch

the rule is that the inbounder cannot take steps out of bounds when throwing it in, unless after a made basket.

had we lost the game solely on that, I would blame only Caleb

No, official needs to make that call. Caleb should know better.

The issue was that he was NOT given three feet

sorry that has to be called everytime..huge part of the game is inbounding

in regards to the shot clock violation, he then he shot the ball into the basket easily .. we could have used that basket desperately, assuming he hit it before the play stoppage

I get nervous when Rutgers has to inbound the basketball. All McConnell had to do was throw the ball down court and the game would be over.

right.. let Purdue catch it too... under their basket... .4 should have been .3 btw.. but don't they have a rule about what kind of shot can happen in .3 or less? So they made it .4

I think that’s what he was trying to do. He also could have got it off his body. Any number of things. Except what he did.

I think it’s rarely called cause most players at that level know the rule. And he didn’t just shuffle - he took several steps. Boneheaded play
and as someone else pointed out, the refs might often tell the inbounder that he cannot move....something we as fans are unaware of.
