Temple will cover and probably beat State Penn.
They will have the biggest pro Temple crowd ever in the Linc.

How on God's green earth do the Cowgirls even show up on this list, let alone in front of Cuse or (assuming you're a Rangers fan) in front of Potvin?

I've hated the cowgirls since before I knew what Rutgers or the NYR were. It's a family tradition. It might help to say that I'm not originally from NJ.

What's wth everyone's disdain for ND?
PS I agree about Franklin he's a salesman that knows nothing about X's and O's
Mike, I'll take a crack at this:

Why I hate Notre Dame:

1. Twelve years of Catholic school, the first eight in the heart of New Jersey"s "Irish Riviera." Notre Dame was pretty much the only Univerisity we ever heard about. Every day. when I was very young it seemed like it was the only schoool in the country. The constant patter about Notre Dame was worse than the daily beatlings. I once heard a nun tell a classmate who had been accepted to Dartmouth and Princeton, "Why don't you go to a school people have heard of, like Notre Dame?"

2. Arrogance. I do not like the way they conduct their business. Not just that the Notre Dame A.D. has the same standing as a P5 conference commissioner, but they way they leverage potential football opponents . I will reference what they tried to do to us for board members who remember. Some might say Rutgers would do the same thing if we were in their position, but I would like to think we would not.

3. Arrogance. Well, they are really arrogant.

4. They are French frauds. Only Notre Dame, a school witlh a French name, would call themselves the "Fighting Irish." They are not the Fighting Irish, they are the Fighting Frenchies. The school was founded by an order of FRENCH priests (Congregation of the Holy Cross). The complete name of the school is the University of Notre Dame du Lac, which is FRENCH for the University of our Lady of the Lake. They are the Fighting Frenchies. The Fighting Irish moniker came later, and can easily be referenced. Of note, the priests objected to the name, as it was widely used a insult directed at Irish Catholics.

5. Take all this with a grain of salt. :)

Could not agree more Janowski, there's also a bit of irony thinking the way we do when it comes to PSU's feeling toward us.

But that's startinmg to change, maybe has already.
What's funny is the Nit fans claim RU's irrelevant , but keep up with what's going on.
RU and PSU aren't rivals now , the games will decide that.
But the fanbases don't consider the other school's FB program irrelevant , though there are those on both sides trying to make it look that way.
The RU FB program worries the Nits now, because they know it's not the same type of program it faced in the past.
To me that isn't considering RU an irreverent program, like RU fans are claiming Temple is.

Edit: point spread is giving Temple more credit than it deserves, or might be a sign the odds-makers don't think much of Penn St football this year.
Then again, maybe Temple is starting to become a good FB program and spread is a fair one because the Nittany Lions shouldn't be considered that much better then the Owls are this season.

Creep State...

"In 2008, a graduate student in another program told me that a black student group, fearing for the safety of its members, had advised students of color to stay home the day after Obama’s win. One of my students shared these concerns. Through tears, she spoke of a friend who found notes attached to her front door reading, “N****r, leave.” Some friends, she said, became too exhausted and fearful to stay, so they did leave.

Not surprisingly, State College, the town, can feel oppressive in a visceral and suffocating way (quite literally, given the poor air quality). Though it is not nearly as well-documented as the race problem in the community, members of the LGBT campus community reported death threats as recently as 2010. LGBT students and graduate instructors had to consider whether being “out” in their classrooms might jeopardize their safety, and many of my own friends and acquaintances -- particularly those perceived as “gender non-conforming” -- were targets of harassment and ridicule."

Temple has an experienced team with 19 starters back, including the QB. They are one of the favorites to win the AAC this year. I would not be surprised if that game turns out to be very close.

Agreed; Temple will likely go at least bowling and this seems to be their year to make hay. They have a senior-laden talented defense and an offense with some good players...I do think though that they take a fall after this year and once Walker leaves they fall off a cliff.

...while I don't 'hate' Temple I do think some of their fans are beyond obnoxious, especially when it comes to us. The guy who writes the Temple Forever blog does a great job but I still crack up about the 2012 game week and how he predicted Temple was going to win based off of Temple's 'big' 4-game winning streak against us from 1999-2002. I also think its hysterical about how he claimed Temple would have 35/40k in the stands for the game and we had probably half of the 34k crowd that day.

Psu should smoke temple unless they're really just not good this year.

What do you think is worse?

1. All the recruits Temple beats us too

2. All the regional talent Temple places in the NFL

I think he was talking tounge in cheek. Temple has 'beaten' us for 2 recruits in recent memory: Kareem Ali Jr (who seems legit) and Chapelle Cook (seems talented but a strange situation with the mother, who was 'concerned' about academics and safety at Rutgers (???). Some of their fans will claim Walker, Buddy Brown and Webb but Walker's situation has been well-covered (he wanted to solely be QB), Brown's RU offer was gone by the time push came to shove (along with many other of his '20 offers') and Webb is probably 50/50 of ever setting foot on campus at Temple as a student-athlete. I would crack up if any of them try to say Adonis Jennings (who will probably be a decent player for them...as long as the going isn't tough).

Put your hatred aside for a day, call your local bookie and bet your house on PSU -7.

You guys can think me later. [cheers]

Will you promise now that you'll come back and post in this thread if it's close game or if Temple wins?

We are relevant to PSU because we're in the same league and division, but that's where it ends. They will never admit to hating us or consider us a true rival unless we have some tangible success against them to point to.
If Temple was a yearly OOC opponent for us and they beat us 3 or 4 consecutive times, there would be a strong sense of urgency on this board to defeat them.
All reference to us on the PSU site is one of irrelevence toward us, that will not change unless we beat them consecutively a few times.
I don't understand why we insist on trying to make ourselves something we're not, simply put, any random PSU fan you speak with away from these boards will not be all crazy/excited over the thought of playing us. In their minds right or wrong they are superior to us, only one thing can change that and you all know what it is.
To think they're level of hatred toward us approaches our hatred toward them is pure delusion.

Penn State. We want Penn State 2-0 when we play and beat them. Don't hate Temple, but why would you want to give Temple even a breath of life, keep them down. They take just one of our recruits that is one to many. The sooner they kill that program the better IMHO.

Actually, I think most RU fans would hope that PSU goes 0-12 each and every year.

You want to keep Temple down so they don't steal RU recruits....but you don't think RU would gain more/better recruits if PSU is down?

I've always thought that was stupid as well. And they are a Catholic school with a pagan mascot. Kind of like Wake Forest being the Demon Deacons as a Baptist school.

Have you looked at the matchups, personnel, schemes, etc.? It's appears not and because of this thinking Rutgers should have never beat Michigan or finished with more than 3 wins last year.

Temple returns 17 starters from last year. I believe 9 on a defense that was better than Rutgers. That Rutgers team held PSU in check until a missed tackle set the stage for a loss. PSU isn't smoking anyone with their current offense and once you add Temple's defense it's going to be tough sledding for them to score. And maybe PSU isn't really that good. The name on the front of the jersey doesn't win you games.

PSU beat the same temple defense 30-13 last year and returns every major offensive playmaker and the majority of its defense.

I think Temple's defense is legit, but at the same time they were also a bit of a product of their schedule. Their best game was probably against Cincy (14-6 loss), and even the guy who writes the Temple Forever blog noted that their win vs ECU was aided by a nor'easter (ECU I think lost 5 fumbles, 3 unforced). They compiled a large chunk of their stats vs. bottom-30 and below teams (UConn, Tulsa, Tulane, Delaware State, Vandy, who was dreadful last year). I give them a lot of credit for how they played a good Memphis squad.

Temple-PSU is a strength vs weakness game (both D's better than both O's) and PSU won by 18 last year. The teams remain largely the same. While this game means 1000x more to Temple than PSU, it helps the Nits that this is the opener (minimizes the sleepwalking/ WTF factor). If PSU can withstand the initial 'emotional assault' and not make goofy mistakes, they are probably at least 6 points+ better in this game. I can see it going similar to the 2011 game, with PSU winning something like 28-17. If PSU gets to Walker, they'll win by double digits+.

PSU will struggle a bit.. I see Temple as being really good on D and PSU's OL is still a year away. But I think PSU ends up with a nice point spread b/c PJ Walker is terrible and gambles all game long.

Hate PSU or not but good football fans will really appreciate their D. PSU's has arguably the best DT combo in the country (Zettel/Johnson) and probably a type 10 set of DB's.

I think PSU is gonna be really tough for RU this year with a brand new QB, the crowd, and a defense that who can terrorize any offense. PSU will still lose at least 3-4. But going forward.. PSU is going to be FIILTHY.. the talent they are stockpiling talent (just signed Dioubate) will still be checked by UM and tOSU. I don't know that RU ever finishes at the top of the heap.. but you'll get a win here and there and keep college football fun. You will have years when you compete and then years when the year will not end quick enough. I think this is tough year coming for RU.

There will be a lot of angry BIG fans foward.. with PSU/UM/tOSU on top, and then MSU/Nebraska/Whisky on their heels and a occasional good year from RU or Minny you won't see many undefeated teams going forward.. it's going to be a war of attrition--but the BIG team who makes it thru will be ready just like tOSU was last year. Enjoy the year.-sg

Pj walkers decision making makes Nova look like peyton manning. Pj walker against a stout D like PSU doesnt stand a chance. Now, granted i dony know much about temple on the defensive side of the ball though.

Gained Barkley at RB and have Breneman coming off injury at TE (+Mike Gesicki). 4 OL who at least have starting experience now, and a trio of true sophomore receivers who may actually know their routes well enough to be able to get separation this year (re: Chris Godwin in the Pinstripe Bowl).

Will always cherish Belton's TD run in our game last year though. <3
