Carlin and legrand are completely butchering this broadcast . They aren't calling the game and going on and on with tidbits. There is a time and place for tidbits , but they are really almost ignoring the game itself . And they won't shut up , they need to be told they are on tv and not radio . Terrible .
On another not sideline reporter guy is doing a good job with interviews .

Agreed. Years ago I saw an interview with Vince scully discussing the difference in doing a radio broadcast where you have to paint the picture and broadcast the game versus a televised event. Carlin obviously has no clue, and as the seasoned pro, should be reeling Eric in.

BTN should be ashamed of itself for allowing this production and Hobbs for allowing these guys to be the voice of Rutgers football. I get the LeGrand thing but his participation should be much more limited and targeted to special interest stories. Didn't expect to be listening to Ray Scott, but Soupy Sales, c'mon.

It's a spring game with lots of new players, announce them!!! Mike Dare ran 3 plays before Carlin even said who he was for God's sake.

I'm really not sure they know there's an actual game going on. It's just tidbits and not an actual broadcast of the game transpiring right in front of their eyes. Horrible just Horrible.:chairshot:

Awful . These guys are still rambling on ignoring the game . What the hell is carlin doing ? He's been on tv before and knows better . I hope he doesn't visit this thread and lecture us

Carlin probaby is just continuing his non call of mens hoops this year when he and Joe Boylan tried to talk about everything but the 40 point beatdowns putting everyone to sleep. Why is anyone surprised about how bad he is

I think there's a fan in the 3rd row that needs a sideline interview. A few fine but everybody who's anybody standing on the field is getting one. Enough is enough

I actually disagree.

Love listening to these guys with the interest stories.
This is not a real game.

I want to hear what is going on with and around the program, and that is what they are talking about.
It is an advertisement for RU, the game itself does not matter.

And these 2 guys love RU.
Just wish Ray was with them in the booth. His brutal honesty is a breath of fresh air.

Then listen to the radio, I'm watching to see how players are progressing, the basic concepts of our offense and defenses. Not for an infomercial on RU football. We've gotten very limited info on the team this spring. This was the one time we could actually see a scrimmage for ourselves and get basic info on the team. And they're butchering it with constant cut aways and a nonexistent broadcast of the game. Very disappointing.

I don't have as much as a problem with Carlin. I know the plays by watching. I'm not an expert though, and would like someone in the booth who can really break down what I'm seeing. I am very interested in who makes a play happen, or who screws up from either side etc etc. I love Eric, and was in the stadium when that accident happened, but that doesn't make him a great color guy

A totally revamped offense.

Could have used a lesson on it with talk of each individual players.

Disappointed

You mean bore us to death! "Lecture" states a certain amount of knowledge, this guy is clueless! What's with all these interviews, split screens, worthless to what is actually going on in the field. What players are playing, where, and how. Just shameful by BTN, and Rutgers University for allowing it!
Can't wait until FOX Network, or any Company with experience on how to run a broadcast.

I didn't mind the interviews with the coaches or the split screen. Tonight was an introduction to a new regime. For that the approach in the booth should have been much different and basic.

Not a stretch to say RU wanted this kind of format. I'd not ignore the on-field action but perhaps it was seen as a promotional vehicle. I'm sure the announcers were picked by the university.

This thread has me interested to catch a rerun

I like them both.....they did talk a lot.......a lot. Sort of reminded me of Rizzuto doing a Yankee game broadcast.

Is Rutgers the only Spring game you watched?

Every game I've seen was the same way. Interviews, PR, tidbits on team...and not too much game analysis. That's how it's supposed to be for a scrimmage.

Yup. I watched quite a few on BTN. They're all pretty much the same.

Actually yes it was the only spring game I watched. I really could careless what Michigan's 2nd string line looks like. If they are all like this my question is WHY? There's so many new players on the field they can talk about and give us info on, but they chose not to. Is it shear laziness that they couldn't study up on 80 guys and write notes on each guy? Did they not get a roster to tell us who made a play or who was playing? I knew most but not all. Would have been nice for them to tell the uninformed. It's only their job after all.

I don't know who came up with this format for B1G games but whoever he is, tell him it flat out sucks. The die hard fans of college football are watching these games, not the casual observer. They want info on their current team, not an Infomercial on RU football.

I watched a few others (Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State). I get the widely used format and thought the interviews were good. But the game should not have been irrelevant, which it was, and inasmuch as this year represents a substantial break from the past- completely new coaching staff, new offensive and defensive alignments, etc, more time should have been spent discussing those things and where possible, given the limitations of the announcers, educating the fan base as to what to look for in the game and the rest of the year in terms of formations, techniques, differences from the last few years, personnel changes and the like. No problem with an infomercial, but at least live up to the info part of it. I watched the second half with the mute button on ; pray tell, what did I miss.

And to show i am not a total hater I thought carlin's interview with Hobbs was excellent .
