He can take four more "Free Trips" to either enjoy sampling a slice of college life or carefully investigate possibilities - or any combination there of.
BUT - The reality is that, for most schools, December - from this point on -is now pretty sub-optimal as far as displaying the university as it would typically appear to a student - most places are rolling into exams / winter break this coming week ... and then many are not back to 'normal' until mid January. A lot of what will go on in this 'break period' will be one-on-one tours and discussions - but it will be challenging to create the genuine campus atmosphere.
That is why this weekend was a relatively HUGE recruiting weekend in a lot of places - HUGE in terms of being able to say - "this is what life will be like" - especially when you consider that some kids were waiting until after the end of their high school season to start taking trips.
There is another factor that can enter into the process - there is a finite number of recruits that a university can bring in for an "Official Visit" * - and as some active recruiting schools get close to the end of the recruiting season - they may need to give careful consideration as to how they offer these trips - they will focus on their priorities and on the strong possibilities - and, depending upon how many trips they have left to offer - they simply may not be able to offer a trip to a kid taking a quasi-sightseeing trip.

In Division I football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball, schools are only allowed to provide a certain number of official visits each year. Football is permitted 56, baseball is allowed 25, and basketball is allowed just 12.
