UConn gave Mighty Maine all they could handle

From the article:

BC athletics director Gene DeFilippo seemingly confirmed what many had been reporting/presuming over the past month -- that BC blocked UConn from receiving an invite to the ACC.

"We didn't want them in,'' DeFilippo told the Globe. "It was a matter of turf. We wanted to be the New England team.''

Yes .... and how is that working out for them, being a distant star in a remote constellation? Even with the additions of Syracuse and Pitt, they are still an island. They would've benefited immensely from the addition of UConn, not that I care what happens to BC. But they way they pulled in all the life-preservers once they climbed aboard the lifeboat has not worked well for them.

I disagree, they'd still be on an island only with another $hitty school to join them and both fighting for the same recruits in a small pool of talent. It was the smart move for BC as much as I hate them

Also, BC blocking them is old news so not sure why anyone doesn't remember that

It's been incredibly hard for them to build any interest in their football and basketball program playing in a league where their opponents are so far away, not to mention that the football schedule is not exactly filled with marquee names, F$U notwithstanding. Their programs were stronger when they were playing regional opponents in both sports. ACC football is no better than Big East football before 2003 or '04, but BC used to put good teams out there. Now that they've been invisible to players in the region for a dozen years, it's just not a desirable destination for those kids. The ACC should've forced them to accept other northeastern schools for their own good and that of the league. Now it might be too late.

I don't disagree on the struggles but to the extent that they'd have them if Uconn were in the ACC. No one in Boston cares about Uconn but at least when they were in the BE, you have the corridor of people, jobs, alumni etc that all got into it. You came into contact with alumni from each of these schools etc etc. Now they don't, Uconn alone would not fill that void

I hate BC and glad they made that mistake
I hate Uconn, hope they stay where they are to die on the vine
I hate Sarah too
I hate everyone not RU...lol

Thanks for posting that. I often find myself checking the TV schedules thinking, okay, I'll watch this game because I hate so and so and want to see them lose. Pretty much hate most all other teams - except for a select few.

BC at this point is nothing but a safety school who players who couldn't get onto UND but still want to play FBS football at a Catholic College. No one else wants to go there. BC is not going to beat any of the good teams for players who don't fit what I just described 90% of the time.

Comcast televised the game on one of their channels, but it was produced by the American Sports Network which I think is fairly new. I don't think it is run by the American Conference, just shares the name.

Given the success of UCONN athletic teams iover the last 20 years, they gave a legitimate gripe being snubbed from a big 5 conference.
Forget about lack of fan support and logistics, the fact remains they have had very good sports success.

They did. But that is on the downside.

Uconn is an NCAA casualty now.

How stupid DeFilippo is, he should know UCan't is THE NEW YORK CITY TEAM![roll]

Seriously. We are so far past them as an AD that they do not matter to us.

-----
Years ago I believe they beat us two years in a row, and their internet fans were saying things like "RU is in our rear view mirror now"..... Quick to be arrogant, it seems, and a bit wrong

On the other hand, if I were a UConn fan I would hold out a distant hope of an ACC invite in the future..... Based on the premise that the ACC has more concern about basketball, or more than most leagues that consider expansion...... And UConn has had success in bb. That should be noticed.

What UConn needs is league turmoil, teams jumping from league to league, fears between leagues of other leagues expanding etc.. Something to open a door for them.
