UConn's Renchler Field will be renamed Pratt & Whitney Stadium

Makes sense. You need a Pratt & Whitney engine on a Jet just to make the 2 mile flight down the "Parking Lot " runway to the that little stadium.

Well the airfield for decades (also named Rentschler) was owned by Pratt & Whitney who used it for all of their test flights. (Believe Rentschler was the name of one of the Pratt & Whitney inventors that operated their airplane engine division).

Like many other stadiums today that use one name for the field and one name for the stadium, wouldn't be surprised if the official name becomes: Rentschler Field at Pratt & Whitney Stadium

How about that is what their fan base deserves. They were the worst fans at any of the away games I have attended.

fan bases are fan bases. I had a bad experience that one Halloween night but it was mostly drunk undergrads. Seem fine otherwise.

Has nothing to do with the fanbase. I maintain (and have maintained) that building that crappy thing way off campus hinders ability to recruit, hinders their college atmosphere, and hinders their attractiveness to other conferences. I said this when they joined the BE football side too, and I still think I'm right

I know they probably didn't have much choice at the time, but still think it's a major factor.

I drive through Connecticut all of the time (my wife is a UConn alum and still has family there). The stadium is incredibly convenient for highway driving but not at all convenient to students on campus. My wife tells me that she remembers when she went to school there, they had a small field on campus. So, having Rentchler is definitely a step up. But, it is nowhere close to the on-campus experience so many of us are used to. But, hey - doesn't Pitt play off campus at someone else's stadium? And, USF, too? And, Temple? They all deprive their fans of the on-campus experience.

Probably true...but remember, at the time, UCONN was a Div I-AA football program with very little money available and when CT didn't win the battle for the Patriots new stadium, the State just built a smaller stadium on the same site for UCONN...so UCONN got a free 40,000 seat stadium.

Having that free stadium has allowed UCONN to build some nice on-campus training facilities...but even if UCONN had the $$$ to build a 40,000 seat on-campus stadium...I think it still would have been hard to bring in top talent to Storrs.

How about the " Robert Kraft hoax stadium" in his ploy to leverage more lucrative deals to keep the Patriots in Foxboro.

Similar situation with the U Miami stadium location.

The stadium belongs to the state of CT and UConn pays rent to play there, but keeps ticket proceeds. Apparently the renaming is in exchange for several more acres of land being made available for parking, but I don't think there's money changing hands.

How about "Horrible Mistake Building This Ugly Thing 25 Miles Off Campus Stadium".
Remember walking into that thing looked like one solid piece of concrete. What an eyesore that place is. Inside just looks dark and gloomy and it was a sunny day.

Not the worst stadium I've ever been to, but it is home to the worst fans I've ever encountered, and it's not even close. I've been to a hell of a lot of stadiums and ball parks.
Philadelphia fans are like saints compared to UCONN scum.

Could not agree more. UConn fans up there bring douchery to a new level.

Has to be a reason a school with the best Women's basketball program in the country and one of the top 20 best Men's basketball programs in the country didn't get a sniff from the big boy conferences, lol.

Think more had to do to their location and how they were a Div II/Div I-AA program for 100 plus years and didn't even join Div I-A ranks till 2000 (joined Big East in 2004).

Believe all P5 programs have been playing "Major" College football for 60 - 100 plus years.

I think Florida State is one of the younger (maybe even youngest) P5 program in the country. (Think they are the only program started after WWII that has won a National Championship).

I wouldn't throw stones they've had more succes that we have at the D1A level
