Was It Just Me Or….

Well, it's not anywhere near midterm time and there were small lines before/after the game at the lockers. The students didn't show yesterday. My guess due to the crappy experience they went through for the Howard game.
Noon kick-off vs crappy opponent equals

Maybe change the thread title to “official thread for the in stadium piped in music is too loud and too frequent.” and when the thread continues to grow, Rutgers will eventually listen?

Maybe if someone on this Board or the Premium Board has a way to advise Greg on this ?
The Game Day Operations staff are totally incompetent.
Sure the piped in decibel blasting music will help draw in students. At the same time you’re driving away the customer base who are funding the program. Lost $$ revenue: tickets, concessions, donations, parking.

And it does not affect the students because the speakers are well overhead in the South Endzone.

So a colleague's son (RU senior) won tickets at a darts tournament (I believe) at the Olive Branch, so he and his wife came to the game. They were down in section 101: I went down to hang with them at halftime and early 3rd quarter. The volume from the sound system was brutal. Holy crap! Kept trying to have a conversation with him, his wife and son, and we all had to keep asking each other to repeat ourselves. What the hell, RU had this much better last season and for the Howard game. My colleague ended up leaving late 3rd quarter, I don't blame him. What a totally bad experience for his and his wife's first game.

I kind of expected that with a noon start after the first week of school and Friday night partying, plus the forecasted rainy weather.

The days of sporting events being special are over.

I remember my father coming home on a random weeknight stating “a vendor gave us devils tickets for tomorrow night.”

The level of excitement in school the next day was off the charts, the feeling of jubliance walking from the car to the arena was something ill never forget

It’s just different now. Different generation. HDTV. Etc

You have a fine balance of catering to older fans (like myself) and younger fans

A lot of older fans are hooked. Wel complain but keep going

Younger fans are different. Piss them off, and they’re gone - often times, never returning

None of this helps
- hour bus ride from college Ave to stadium
- lack of student tailgating
- bag line wrapping around stadium
- music so loud it feels like a rock concert
- insane bad rules
- constant noise - never a dull moment
- not allowing the band to play

Couple that in with a program who’s historically been mediocre at best and you’ll get 40k paid and a subpar student section attendance wise on a day where we should have sold this game out with our eyes closed, and the kids should have been packed in

It’s not just a Rutgers thing - the school I love down south is having similar issues due to some of the same aforementioned points, as are a lot of others around the country

Winning will definitely help - but everything I mentioned can, and needs to, get fixed assp

The future fans and more importantly, donors are staying away in droves - once they don’t find back, stats show it’s much harder to get em back than ever

Wake up Rutgers
We’ve outlined the issues
It’s up to you to listen
Anyone who misses a game because of a water bottle is the ass - stay home.

I think it is much better without the horn! But they still try somewhat to drown out the students on third down and I wish they'd stop.

My biggest gripe is that no one sings the fight song. Hoping for a real crowd sometime this season. Haven't seen it in years.
This is why my seats are in 131, next to the student section. We could get a better view elsewhere, but the occasional times I've done that, I felt like I was watching the game in a library--well, at least until the piped in music came on. At least they only played Click Click Boom once yesterday, usually it's somewhere between 10 and 20.

As for the low turnout, I'm not sure why anyone expected different for a noon game against a non-conference opponent with a chance of thunderstorms. The student section was packed against Howard because it was the season opener, the weather was great, it was a night game, and they apparently were pushing freshmen to go to the game from some other orientation event, but then since a ton of them had bags and were subjected to our ridiculous bag policy, it's no wonder they didn't want to come yesterday, combined with the start time and weather.

Oh great, another thread filled with mostly old men whining about loud music.
That may be true, but it really is too loud. When you have people staying home because of it and parents bringing protective headphones for their kids, there is obviously a problem. Have you ever heard of this being an issue at any other sporting event? I certainly haven't.

The counterargument is that it's for the students, well it was never this loud when most of us were students, and I go to a different away game every year and I've yet to experience this at any other college stadium.

The noise level must vary depending on where you sit.
For me, in 128, I e never had a problem with the sound level. Is it loud, yes.. but not uncomfortably so.

One suggestion if it bothers you is to use earplugs.

The closer you are to the student section the worse it is.

I sit in 227 and it’s entirely too loud.

I’m 35 and the music and sound is way too loud.

Stay in your lane numbers (weather threads).
Having DJ-ed 100+ events for work, parties and at a few bars, I think I'm in the correct lane. The vast majority of the people whining are over 50 and I'm sure the students and players love it or else it wouldn't be this way - does anyone think Greg wouldn't address it if he thought it was a major issue?

I’ve been to all the Big Ten stadiums that matter, and our stadium music production is very similar to everyone else’s. The guy that is in charge our of ours came from Penn State, and that is not a coincidence. This is how it’s done nowadays.

Does the incessant noise make it difficult for the sideline to communicate with the player whose helmet is equipped with the electronics, and the QB to bark out signals to his teammates?

Doesn't make it right.
We are NOT Penn State. And we DON'T want to be like them.
We can win on our own terms and our own way.
Thank you very much.

Nah. You having a high tolerance for loud music does not mean you represent the average RUFB fan. Nobody here can speak for everyone on this subject.

You and others who don't care about the loudness won't be troubled by having the stadium speakers lowered w/respect to music or other non-game-related sounds. Whereas it's quite obvious, just from reading the many threads on this over the years, that lots of other people are uncomfortable with the sound system volume.

This is a no-brainer to fix. All the DJ has to do is turn things down and ensure they stay turned down at all times.

Were you at the game? On some offensive possessions, the video screen did flash something along the lines of "Quiet, Team Working." On a good number of those, the music was still blaring up until the 15 second count. That is when the communication in the helmet stops by the rule. Brilliant!!!

Ummm or maybe you’re just hard of hearing now, and loud noises / high decibels don’t bother you? It makes sense now.

With all due respect - it’s not your place to be downplaying complaints from folks who think the music / sound is too loud for themselves or their young children.

If it doesn’t bother you, that’s fine. But don’t act like you can speak for others or that only older folks are complaining.

There are plenty of younger folks complaining and if anything maybe you should listen to us so we don’t lose our hearing like you have.

Actually, i do speak for everyone and I would complain and eventually organize a massive boycott of the games on behalf of everyone if they lowered the volume. Actually, actually, I don't give a rat's ass about anything in the stadium other than winning. I'd have a full symphony orchestra, break dancers and circus freaks if I thought that would help us win.

I guess whoever runs wrestling social media wasn’t at the game. Recognized? They were assembled in the end zone and never announced or recognized. Epic fail by in game production.

I think our crowd may be receptive to the symphony orchestra. I am not thrilled with the music, but damn, what is everyone expecting - a Broadway show atmosphere? It's a sporting event. I actually feel they have dialed things down a bit this year. Don't remember as many Click, Click Booms last game.

I guess we're the cloud here....

I've been mostly trolling about bands and loud music for years, so don't take it too seriously, although it is true I don't like marching bands and I do enjoy loud music. Having said that, the young kids in our group love the loud DJ music, as does the rest of our crew; only @mildone claimed it was too loud but I suspect it's really because he just doesn't like any music that's in 4x4 time and ~90% of pop music is in 4x4 time.

It was definitely louder on Saturday ... and annoying. I've given up on the stupid "make some noise thing". I guess that's here to stay.

Young kids also love sugar, soda, staying up late, tv, video games etc.

Does that mean it’s good for them?

Whether you’re trolling or not you don’t make very good points lol.

I have no problem if the sound doesn’t bother you, or if you enjoy the high decibels blasting in your ear. We’re all entitled to our opinions. But don’t downplay complaints from others or act like this is only coming from old people.

Myself and a few others in this thread are proof it’s not just old people complaining.

You're old relative to college students.

I did not hear a single click, click boom. I was in withdrawal, and I kept clicking a ballpoint pen near my ear to cope.

So, let it be one then, right?

Specially a college football game.
What would be the perfect atmosphere then? I have a read a lot of complaints, but no proposal of what would make everyone happy.

Fact - The noise is keeping older people away
Also fact - It's not drawing young people to the stadium

How about turning it down to a normal level?
We all understand things won't be like they were 20 years ago re. less music, more ads, etc.

But it literally feels like a rock concert in there
Constant noise, ear piercing levels for no reason etc.

I've stopped going to NBA games b/c of this
It's not that hard of a fix - turn down the volume, let band play more, and it's a win/win for everyone

Fair. We are not going to eliminate the piped in music completely, but alter the ratio with the band and take it down a notch. The problem is that now there are many more lengthy pauses, mainly because every game is on TV, which is a positive. Every pause is also monetized with ads/reads, which also feature piped in music in some cases. Also, "Make Some Noise!" blows. Make that go the way of Click, Click Boom and that will be another step in the right direction.

Agreed with everything above. My group runs the gamut (group was as as large as 20+and small as 6. Back to 13 people) from my 10 and 12 year old to 88 year old. No one likes the loud constant assault of the senses from the production crew. It’s okay to have down time. It’s okay to allow a natural organic crowd response. We have had multiple people drop out of our group over the years. Many dropped off under Flood/Ash but the ones who dropped out recently have all been due to the level of noise in the stadium.

Agree but I’m 15 years away from 50 years old.

RU numbers is saying that a majority of the company’s are coming from old men (and he mentioned 50 years old).

This isn’t true.

Ummm. When starting losing “paying” fans who support the program with $$$$ you have a major problem.
But heck you are entertaining the students. Great trade off. lmao

Think that there was only ONE RRRRRR UUUUUUUUU chant the entire game this past Saturday. That used to be a fun thing to get that going several times during a game.
