Was talking to someone in Rutgers tickets sales

Spot-on. I’m guessing season tix sold will be in the 16k range tops and if we don’t significantly improve upon last year, I have no idea how Hobbs could justify keeping Ash after ‘19.

Joe P.

And he'll have saved a whopping $2M by waiting an extra year to show him the door.

Save what money? The $2+ million in salary you save by keeping Ash is lost in ticket sales, parking passes, etc.

Exactly. All the talk of "$10M buyout" was meaningless unless there was a commitment to keep him 5 more years.... keeping him on this year and firing him before next season is just $2M less than firing him this year. And at a steep cost in lost tickets/parking/concession and overall fan interest in the team.

The only logical conclusion is that Hobbs still believes that Ash will be successful at RU.

The fan base lost that belief last season.

Besides any financial issues that's something that I wonder about. He sees how long Willard took (mind you he took a "shortcut" for lack of a better term with some hires) to make the NCAA and the patience it took and wonder if he will show that patience with Ash thinking he can still do it even if this year isn't all that great record wise say 4-5 wins. That's why I put that win total in the 50-50 vicinity....even at 3 it might be greater than 50% but still wouldn't say 100% ....1 or 2 I think is close to certain he'd be gone unless we absolutely under no circumstances don't want to pay off his contract.

Just from his 3 hires my feel of his hiring practices is that he likes coaches that have worked with highly successful coaches (Pitino, Meyer, Calhoun) and he'll likely be patient with them. Of course any of that can change but just on track record that seems like his current MO.

I think he still believes in ash, which is troubling because ash has shown nothing that he will succeed here. Four or five wins would be the worst case scenario:

The bottom line is we have been really bad for several years. I just couldn't take seeing the beatings like 78-0 and 58-0 any more. This will be my third year without the tickets that I had. At my age it was not good for my health. I love basketball so much more and our team is exciting under Pikiell. Ash and his staff better start showing something real soon.

He does (or at least did at the end of the season). But I'm not sure how much Hobbs' faith in Ash is due to him believing Ash is doing stuff behind the scenes to build the program, or if it is due to Ash being Hobbs' guy and Hobbs not willing to admit he made a mistake.

Difference this year is the stadium will be a morgue. We’ve not seen the season ticket renewals but everything is pointing towards a significant drop. Hobbs cant justify keeping him w only 3 wins and an empty stadium

????
If you were at games last season you would have seen HPSS was already a morgue.

Cicero, you may want to add a zero to that number. --Better days are ahead. I really thought Coach Ash would do a good job here. I am probably one of the last few to still be on board to a certain extent. I have to see four wins this year. I still see a possibility he is back in 2020--we shall see.

I was on board with Ash right up until Kansas and Buffalo last year. It just looked like the team quit. I can take losses but being blown out by UB at home is inexcusable.

Unfortunately, I see a possibility he is back in 2020 as well, wins be damned.

It was only a few short years ago the same offers you guys are talking about could be had in Ann Arbor.

Regardless, it happened.

And it was for a can of Coke.

The Coke thing was run by Coca Cola after they bought a block of tickets, not directly through Michigan Athletics, apparently, and the promo was pulled once Michigan found out about it.

And then, the Michigan AD resigned two months later, and six weeks after that Harbaugh was hired.

I'd gladly suffer through a ghost town and absurd promotions for a year if it means we hire someone like Harbaugh. Of course, that's a pipe dream.

I'm waiting for the Quick Chek deal where you buy 2 subs, a bag of chips and 4 sodas and you get 4 football tickets free.
What are you waiting for? Stop at the Quick Chek on River Road, pay $20 to park at the RAC,, and stand out side with a few fives in your hand (or bring some smiling kids who will be handed tickets for free). $$$$

This. The Wolverines won’t put up with a losing Coach. Hobbs on the other hand throws ‘em 2 year extensions. Unreal.
Brady Hoke says hello.
Sometimes mistakes happen. Even at Michigan.
Brady Hoke received $14.4 million in compensation for 4 years of lousy results by Michigan standards.

Good old Jim Harbaugh, pulling down $7.5 million dollars a year. You are probably not too swift with math, but that is equal to Ash's buyout after this season.

And right out of the gate, they gave Jim a 7 year contract in 2014.

What has Michigan received for $7.5 Million/year?:
No national championship. No Big Ten championship, or even a division title; his Wolverines have finished third, third, fourth and second in the Big Ten East. His record against bitter rivals Ohio State and Michigan State is a lamentable 2-6. He got absolutely drubbed by Ohio State and Florida this year.

Unreal!

Maybe @RU4Real or @e5fdny can add something.

How's attendance been?

Michigan is in a different league, literally, when it comes to attendance. Their fans support the team. When comes time to make necessary staff changes, they pony up the money.

You can't compare the two fanbases. It's pathetic to even try.

Whereas some Rutgers fans, take their balls and stay home to teach the AD a lesson and send a message, when Rutgers full share of B1G revenue is about 1/2 of Michigan's and other members of the B1G (except Maryland). And then these same people will nitpick every little thing about the program from behind their keyboards and wonder why Michigan does so well.

Michigan does so well because they have an enormous donor pool filled with proud alumni.

We have people who bitch and complain about absolutely everything and expect someone else to write the check that fixes their problems.

There were a couple thousand UM fans at the game that we won in Piscataway. And yeah, a lot of them were wearing t-shirts that said "Brady Hoke Farewell Tour", but they made the trip. They supported the team.
