My mom has a van in her backyard (1999 Windstar). I have no clue where it came from, but it's been there for a few years. I don't think there's any title, registration, or insurance on it that they have. I don't think they've ever used it. Busted engine and whatnot. I think somebody dropped it off years ago (or gave it to her without the proper paperwork) and I don't really know the situation.

How does one get rid of a car like that?

And to think that, prior to just now, I thought I was uniquely immune to marketing.

in very tiny pieces ....

actually - if you mom never got paperwork, then one can assume she never put the title in her name & never registered it.... then it never would be a dangling administrative obligation / liability that would be traced back to her.
If you can find a scrapper to take it away - do it.
The best place for a 1999 Windstar with a busted engine would be the crusher.

We were in a similar situation. Coincidentally it was a 2005 Windstar. Couldn't find the title. Kars4kids was the only place that would take it without the title and give a tax deductible receipt. Swore I'd never use them because of the horrible commercials! If you do use them, disregard the "free" 3 day vacation they give you. It's a ripoff.

Call any junkyard and they will take it away and give you $200+ bucks for it.

Ask you local fire department if they want it. They might be able to use it for practice purposes (jaws of life). I got rid of 2 crappy cars that way.
This. Or your local fire academy (usually at the County level). If that fails, you could convert it to a tailgate vehicle:

www.junkmycar.com

I used that site when my car gave up the ghost. Easy to use, they have links on their site for what to do if you don't have the title, they handle arranging for a tow truck & disposal, etc. I got $220 for my car.

If the title was never in her name, shouldn't be a problem to get rid of it as scrap value. Call a junk yard. I got rid of an old jet ski without title this way.

I would also go the Fire Dept. route. They'll use it for extrication practice. And hauling it away won't be a problem because it seems like every volunteer fire department and first aid squad has at least one member who works as a towing operator.

Can the kids from the Kars4Kids television commercial be inside the car when they practice?
