Damn. That's who I wanted too. And we ended up with Mike Rice the next year after McCaffery's hired at Iowa. And as they say, "the rest is history."

not true...if we fired Fred Hill in March like we should have, Fran was available and would have interviewed. He interviewed at SHU and he would have interviewed here and we might have scooped him up before Iowa. Instead Tim flubbed it because RU wanted to be on the cheap and they didn't fire him until late April I think

Iowa did not play real hard defense tonight. Watching all of their parts up close though tonight, I think they have an excellent chance to get to the Final 4 this year.

Good inside, outside play with a few real good shooters. Just what you need to have. (assuming they play harder on defense)

Best of Luck,
Groz

Any thoughts on who is better? Iowa or Purdue? Iowa better shooters? Purdue more physical and deeper bench?

Interesting.

Regular season B1G play Purdue.
NCAAs Iowa

Tough to get ball inside in tournament and always favor guard play. Iowa though is really wing oriented.

If Iowa defends like they did today they will be home after the 1sr weekend for good.

Iowa won at Purdue earlier this season.

i get it. i know Rutgers stinks so don't go there.

If I were a Hawks fan last night would be very concerning. there was not a toughness that you played with. Team looks like the past 2 years team.

You have an ULTRA talented team. Your starting 5 is excellent and guys off the bench play a role.

Jok looked disinterested on the defensive end tonight. I can't help think about the Iowa State game this year and think under the hood that is what your team is really about.

I think mcCaffrey made a huge mistake. Despite what he said in the press he took us light. Iowa could have run us out of the building with full court zone press, especially when we were down 13-2. It was clear he wanted to take it easy on his regulars. Ultimately he had to sub Jok and Udtoff back in to the game when took the 18 point lead down to 12 and they all ended up playing starters minutes. He could have and should have had this game over by half.

listen Iowa played uninterested because it was Rutgers, some teams will fly in from the Midwest and go through the motions, some wont. Purdue and Nebby were focused. Indiana and Iowa thought they could just show up. Wisconsin played like crap last year at the RAC and made the title game.

Iowa swept Michigan State and beat Purdue. Their matchups with Indiana and Maryland will decide if they can win the Big 10. I wouldn't read too much into last nights performance when judging Iowa. Iowa played their C-/D+ game and the outcome was never truly in doubt

BIGGEST MISTAKE WE MAKE.......

Winning at X does not mean winning at RU.

he won at Siena, he won at Iowa who by the way had 11 wins the year before he was hired and then after one rough season, he made NIT his 2nd year. Doing it with lesser recruited players, in fact I saw the onthebanks blog say we had quite a few higher rated classes than Iowa the last several years

They have a Final 4 roster. I am not sold on McCaffrey. I saw some terrifying defensive possessions from them. I am sorry between their past 2 years, Iowa State game, and last night I am in "show me" mode.

Truth be told, Iowa really played like crap tonight. They really did sleep walk through this game. Last night was not close to how they have been playing especially defensively.

Greene Rice, I agree Iowa played disinterested last night but I would say its more likely an outlier performance than reverting back to the mean. Teams will have off games. Indiana only beat Rutgers by 9 but have blown the doors off tOSU. Purdue destroyed Rutgers but lost to a bad Illinois team. Good teams find a way to win when they play poorly. I don't expect to see many poor defensive performances like last night because I've seen way too many good ones so far to think last night was typical

If Fran did at Rutgers what he's currently doing a Iowa there would be a lifetime contract, a statue, and court named after him here at Rutgers.

Fran Fraschilla reportedly didn't want the job because Pernetti couldn't promise the facilities would be upgraded.
Can't say if that was the the reason, but was the rumor after Fran pulled his name out of consideration before Rice was hired.

McCaffery not Fraschilla.

Iowa performance defensively was subpar but they still scored 90 points which tells me this game was not taken seriously but it didn't matter because they had 3 players score at least 20 points.

....and Udtoff (or whatever his name is) early on was content to let others score. He is an offensive machine.
