Use to play pickup games with John, not Kristen at St Peter's outdoor courts. Also, visited him at N. Mexico while on active duty in Colorado. Amazing scorer for his size and always got fouled 10-15 times every game. His games with Brian Taylor (Perth Amboy) were must see !The Showcase Lounge go go bar on Easton Ave. I saw many a visiting coach in there. Open for breakfast at times.

I remember going to that store a lot as a little kid with my Mom and always thinking, I wonder if that clown spins.
Went to Cook with his son. I think he only stayed one year?
33 and 78' s too ?Flemington Fair Speedway - dirt track modified stock car racing at "Modified Country USA".
Pellet Records - old out of print records and bootlegs upstairs on the square in Morristown.
Don't remember 78s but I was shopping for rock and they had lots of bootleg LPs and out of print albums. Back then I considered 20 year old records from the sixties as old!33 and 78' s too ?
There was one in Chatham Twp./Greenvillage back in the day. My brother and I almost nailed a Big Bux. Banannas got us. Loved that place. Down the street from the baseball fields. Closed around '83 if I recall.Buxton's ice cream in Pluckemin
If you ate the 10 scoop Big Bux, you would win a second one for free.

Is The Lantern gone?
Now they're even older. My grandmother had some old German records about 1/8 " thick and I probably have some bee-bops from the mid 50' s. A little before 45' s that required the insert on the turntable until HiFi took over.Don't remember 78s but I was shopping for rock and they had lots of bootleg LPs and out of print albums. The Latin Quarter in Cherry Hill had some great big name shows if you won at the races. Saw Helen Reedy in her payday.
There is a hot dog/burger place in Wanaque on Ringwood Ave called the Lantern that use to be Twin Falls hot dogs. Don't know if that is related, but it has been there for awhile. Free pickles, relish, onions and hot peppers. Also sell ice cream.Yeah, too bad. It closed during the 90s i think. Great charbroiled burgers, dogs, onion rings and gravy fries.

Do you remember the name of the ice cream store near River Ave in Califon ? Looked something like a general store from the gold rush era.Buxton's ice cream in Pluckemin

That must be it. Very popular venue in those days for concerts.I assume you meant Latin Casino (which eventually became Emerald City a venue for cool punk/alternative music for a few years). And Helen Reddy and heyday...
You're being kind and compassionate. One of the goofiest/ugliest cars ever built. Those cars looked like mobile greenhouses with all the glass. I drove a 1980 AMC Concord DL for three of my years at RU.
It's interesting how these hot dog joints closed and then reappeared with the "heritage" name, even if they had different owners. I think the original Falls View in Paterson closed around 1985. It was awesome. Some years later (early '90s, I guess), someone resurrected the name and opened a new Falls View on Newark-Pompton Turnpike in Pequannock. Different owners, supposedly the same recipe. Who knows; it seemed different to me, though still pretty good. They then expanded into these other locations, one of which was that one on Ringwood Ave. I had heard that it was gone, and now that you mention it, I did also hear that a new Lantern opened up there. In fact, now that you mention it, @batts, I rememeber the Totowa Lantern closing, because my buddy and I made a stop there from out of area to get one more in. That was about 2002 or so. Shame... I have no idea if the new Lantern is run by the old Lantern folks. There is a hot dog/burger place in Wanaque on Ringwood Ave called the Lantern that use to be Twin Falls hot dogs. I went there three or four times as a kid. I believe the last time was 1980. My Dad was VP of sales for a large company back in the day. Great place for big meetings. How times have changed. The Playboy Club in Great Gorge
What do you remember as a kid that was a fun thing to do or a place to go, but is now gone ?
A few things come to mind right away - Steward Root Beer Stands and Drive-in movies. Still have a drive-in, but it's across the NY border in Warwick, NY. Real nice setting on a stary night.
