Kudos to our guys for playing some of the best man to man defense I’ve seen on the Banks. As far as recruiting, kids will take notice and here’s something to think about? I watched Syracuse play on the tv next to RU at Buffalo Wild Wings and it got me thinking. I’m not saying we were close with Carey and Battle but they both took a more than casual interest because they liked Pikiell; who doesn’t.

But when liking a coach is coupled with wins over big programs on the road; things change. I’m not crying over recruits we didn’t land but I’m looking at getting future players of the caliber of Carey, Battle and Maclung (who we had) and mixing that talent with what we have; will turn Rutgers into a very powerful program. I simply see it happening and can’t wait for Friday night.

Love ya, but I don’t know why you have a man crush on McLung. We have better guards.

Lol. We have very good players. Another guard this year to help Geo as a backup would have been big, I’m just making the point that sure, guys went to Syracuse and its like how do say no to Boeheim with his track record. It takes big wins for kids to realize they could have done the same thing at Rutgers; jersey kids. Very excited for Mulcahy and Jacobs and whoever else we land. We should shoot for the stars with the last ship.

Spot on. McConnell can't handle the rock as of now. That's why next year with Mulcahy and Young will be so beneficial to Baker to rest and not always have to handle the rock.

Yep. Won’t wish the year away, but next year we are talking about a whole new level in the back court.

Pike should have played McConnell more in those early blowouts.
I think he tried? Not sure about Caleb just yet? Definitely not an opportunity tonight! I thought he would be better but not writing him off yet.

He gave a lot more rope to other guys. Maybe he just isn't ready. I still think he will be good, but another ball handler is a big weakness on this team. that's why I would have given him more time.

One other point. Pikes tall guard philosophy really paid off tonight. Lykes had trouble finding shots and wasn’t able to do as much damage driving as I thought he might. Our defense was really good and our guys sliding out from those high picks. It was a great performance. Shame on their coach for making every excuse in the book about being tired and jet lagged. He gave no credit to Rutgers.

Ron Harper and even Gene have shown flashes to me that they could bring the ball up in an emergency. Not sure if they could do the drives etc that Geo does though. He’s on another planet. But I’m not ready to throw in the towel if Geo say has to miss a few games from a soreness or something

Will say that in a way, this regular season in the B1G will expose all the warts and improvements we have made and need to make. Right now, the B1G is potentially going to win the challenge vs the ACC, something that was not remotely possible a year ago.

The entire bottom half of the B1G is vastly improved and we don't have a UNC or Duke type of program in the B1G but every one of our players will learn much faster on what it takes over 20 league games.

There's no free lunch anymore or at least for this year. So whatever improvement we have, could be truly further ahead than expected.

I was telling @NewJerseyHawk earlier in the week. I ball with Larangas nephew and larangas HATE rutgers for some odd reason that I simply have never been able to quite figure out. So this doesnt surprise me

Yeah. I know the guy is a good coach but his entire press conference was about his team being lethargic and his big man missing the last 10 minutes of the game. At least one of the two players interviewed said nothing matters except that we didn’t play well.

I don’t really care but Pikiell is the first to credit any coach who’s team plays a great game and our defense was sick tonight.

Iowa is ranked in the top 25 almost where they finished in the Big 10 last year

Freshman, Johnson included, look good.

Is it just me or does Mathis have some Andrew Toney in him?

Love Thiams d and energy and know he likes to shoot 3s but hes not a natural shooter at this pt and needs to defer on some.

also Miami is going to be the level of your lower to mid pack Big 10 team so while its a great step tonight..these kind of wins will have to become more common place on the road to be successful though I love that OSU and Maryland are our first two home games to start the year..big opportunity against very good but not unbeatable teams

I was surprised Coach L didn't make the usual "Give a lot of credit to (opponent name). They played hard, executed their offense and defended well tonight" coach-speak comment in his opening statement during the press conference.

His statements about being tired and jet-lagged were responses to specific questions about that from media members.

“Jet lagged”..aren’t we the visiting team?..I know they had to fly up to play Seton Hall, but they they also get to return home and play in their on campus arena..

Long flight back from California after a weekend of games but that’s not our problem. We were the better team tonight and played hard core defense and coach speak or not; it’s a decent thing to credit the opposing coach. I thought it was also funny to hear the questions from the local media sort of making the excuses for Miami and Coach L elaborating on dehydration and fatigue. From what I understand, Rutgers didn’t get into Miami until late Tuesday at like midnight and had a pretty turbulent flight as well. Rutgers came to play and win. I didn’t know what to expect after watching Miami play seton hall? I thought the 11.5 point spread seemed like it could happen based on how Miami shoots the 3 ball and I was concerned at 13-4 to start. We just outplayed them in every way and that defense was exciting to see.

These are 18-22 year olds 6 games into a season with 2 days of rest. These are not old geezers. Not buying it. They got to go to sleep early in their own beds sleeping while our players were flying through turbulancet on a plane.

Didn't EMU's coach say the same thing?

Regardless, we've held all but one opponent under 0.9 points per possession. Everyone else can credit whatever they want, I'll call it good defense until proven otherwise.

Geo having to play a near 40 is a problem. Just the truth.
Frankly that to me is the biggest issue going forward--the need to limit the number of minutes of Geo's playing time without sacrificing the play of the team. McConnell needs to step up and play at least 6-8 passable if not quality minutes.

As of right now, it looks like McConnell will be recruited over (by mulchahy) and could possibly transfer out, that isn't necessarily an issue, i think that shows signs of growth as a program.

That being said I am not writing CMC off, just stating from what we have seen so far

Great win with great defense. Miami was definitely bothered by RU pressure.
But, one game at a time. Many assumed this and the next two games as losses. Now one of them has turned into a win. Already a positive for many. If we can pull off yet another win, this program will have found what so many of our teams in the last decades have not...confidence.
