Pat Forde just posted a piece on SI about high-profile alumni head coaching hires.

The ultimate athletic scenario for a university president is to have a successful coach who is an alum of the school and will stay there for the long haul, winning big while declining overtures elsewhere. That dream scenario takes a problematic twist when controversies arise and a power struggle ensues.

With that in mind -- and fully granting that Schiano isn't going anywhere, anytime soon, no matter what the latest Coaching Hot Seat chart says -- who would be the leading Rutgers Football alumni candidates to step in as the new head coach if a change happened and the AD/BOG went that route? Who's your pick for head coach if that happened? Let's stick with living, working alumni, please.

If we are being honest, there are no alumni that would be viable candidates, using the criteria cited in the article.

The closest we got to a home grown talent in athletics was Tim Pernetti, who was my teammate back in 1990.

But we eat and railroad our own in NJ.

The obvious answer is steve bellicheck. But i dont think hes cut for college ball. More of a pro football guy.
