Booked a last minute away game trip to Wisconsin. Window has closed to get tickets through Rutgers.

Anyone going have their tickets yet? Would prefer to sit where Rutgers nation is placed.

I looked it up online and got the away sections but worry that it’s not where we actually are.

Go RU!

Sorry for late reply. We got a steal of a deal. $48/ticket in Section X, but we bought a while ago, and the tickets were about half the cost of what Rutgers was charging. Tickets are running $80 and higher in that section, and over $125 in Section S.

@MrsScrew - did you get parking? We have a pass in Lot 67--1 mile to the stadium, a little further than the Yellow Lot! Closest lot was 0.2 miles to stadium, and next closest was 0.5 miles to stadium.

We only made the decision to go ón Monday, but $80 for where we are sitting was a steal as most other seats in the area are way over $120 each

We didn't get parking yet. That's my next chore. Where did you purchase the parking from? We're staying 3 mi away so we are considering doing an Uber to the Capitol and walking and then reversing that after the game. Or possibly going into one of those $2 an hour lots right by the capital

Stibhub. $70. Those prices have come down.

This is going to be a great weekend - it’s homecoming in Madison, one of the great spectacles in America. If you get out there a day early, Friday night is their homecoming parade and pep rally on State Street (the main street coming down from the Capitol building right along campus) - the place will be hopping Friday night. Wear your RU gear and see you there!

For those traveling who have not made arrangements, flying into Milwaukee is much cheaper than Madison. It's a 80 mile drive, which is not too bad. We have a day planned in Milwaukee, which has some fantastic restaurants.

We land in Milwaukee at 9:20am on Friday. What do you have planned? I'm starting that planning process now.

We land on Thursday morning Meeting up with a Wisconsin alum for lunch, and to wander around.

We have an Air bnb in Mt. Horeb, about 20 miles West of Madison. Probably will head out there Thursday afternoon and explore Mt. Horeb, which is the Troll Capital of the World. I expect to find a couple of posters on this board in Mt. Horeb. 😂 Mrs Shift has a very large troll collection, and it was purely coincidental we wound up here, but she is thrilled. There is an Grumpy Troll Brew Pub that is highly rated.

May hit the Cave of the Mounds too.

Friday is open. Will probably explore Madison and may hit the parade, and likely the RU meetup wherever that will be.

Finally, Duluth Trading Company has its headquarters and flagship store in Mt. Horeb.

Madison is one of the great venues for a CFB weekend. Those who have never been will have a great time.

Thought it was about time I posted this to help anyone coming out to Madison for the game against the Badgers

Welcome Rutgers Fans!
Welcome to Madison for this year’s game against the Badgers. There are plenty of places to stay, things to do along with a multitude of eateries along with an abundance of breweries/beer pubs, wineries, distilleries and more drinking establishments than you can shake a stick at. I’ll try to share some places of interest in some of those categories, but am willing to share more specifics on a case by base basis if need be. But let’s start with a few logistics.
General location:
Madison (Madtown, The City of Four Lakes, 77 Square Miles surrounded by Reality) is located in Dane County about 80 miles east of Milwaukee. It is our state capital and the downtown area is located on an isthmus between the two largest lakes (Mendota and Monona). The city is normally divided in primarily eastern and western terms, based on their relationship to the capital building. The UW-Madison campus (along with Camp Randall stadium and the Kohl Center) are on the “near west side” within walking distance of the aforementioned capital building. State Street is the main drag (primarily a pedestrian mall) that goes from the campus to the capital building downtown. Along it you will find scores of bars, restaurants, the Badger Bookstore and numerous other stores.
Travel:
We have an airport in Madison (Dane County Regional Airport/MSN) that has direct flights from Newark along with other places. If you can get a direct flight here, it will be the easiest way to come, but will likely cost you a little more and you may be on a “commuter” jet.
There is also an airport in Milwaukee (Mitchell International AirPort/MKE) from which you can rent a car and drive the approximate 75-80 minutes via major highway (No tolls here in Wisconsin!). There is also something called the “Badger Bus” which can bring you to Madison from Milwaukee if need be.
Finally there are the major airports in Chicago (O’Hare and Midway) which are about 2.5 hours away (not including the inevitable Chicago traffic).
If you plan to drive, it would likely take you around 14-15 hours if you drive straight through, but once again you would want to factor Chicago rush hour traffic and not be anywhere near there during those times. Personally I would suggest making a pit stop somewhere in Ohio or Indiana and leaving a shorter drive on the second day in case Chicago rears its ugly head.
Lodging:
The downtown and campus area have several very nice hotels to stay in including the following:
The Edgewater
The Madison Concourse
The Park Hotel
Hilton Madison Monona Terrace
Hyatt Place
Hampton Inn & Suites Madison Downtown
Doubletree by Hilton Madison Downtown
Hilton Garden Inn Madison Downtown
These are all in the downtown/campus area and within walking distance to the stadiums, but usually sell out VERY quickly and can get VERY pricey around games.
There are scores of other fine hotels on the east and west sides of Madison along with the outlying communities of Sun Prairie, Middleton, Fitchburg and Verona. Many of them will be more affordable and would likely have some sort of shuttle to the game.
Dining:
Madison is home to several James Beard Award winning chefs and has a very wide range of food types. In fact “Top Chef” will soon start filming their 21st season here! No matter your tastes/diet concerns, if you can’t find it in Madison, you just aren’t trying. Here are a few suggestions for things that are more uniquely Madison/Wisconsin:
The Old Fashioned: Situated on the capital square this is one of the primary places we send folks who want to have truly authentic Wisconsin food and beverages. From Friday Fish Fry, to brats, cheese curds, mac and cheese and beer cheese soup, this is the place you want to include if you want a wide choice of Wisconsin options. Make sure you get there early and enjoy “two, tree” beverages from their wide range of Wisconsin beers and the state drink, the Brandy Old Fashioned (served sweet or sour).
Looking for a more upscale dinner? Tory Miller’s two local restaurants (Etoille and Graze) should be on your list. Tory is a James Beard Award winning chef and has been Madison’s top chef for many years now.
Steak is your thing? Try The Tornado Room (if you can get a reservation) for the classic Wisconsin supper club atmosphere or Rare if you like Wagyu amongst other things.
Vegetarian/Vegan your thing? Don’t worry, we have you covered there as well. The Green Owl Cafe in the Schenks Atwood east side neighborhood has been one of the longest standing options and is loved by many.
Pizza: Yes I know it may sound unbelievable to Garden State residents, but we have good pizza here. Patrick DePula (originally from Chambersburg, NJ) has a few locations of his “Salvatore’s Tomato Pies” in the area. Here you can get a true “Trenton Tomato Pie” along with many other options all using locally sourced high quality ingredients. Honestly, Sal’s keeps me sane out here. They even have served Pork Roll,Egg and Cheese sandwiches on weekends. It’s REALLY good.
Beer/Wine/Liquor
UW Madison has a long history of being a “party school” and Wisconsin has had a long history of alcohol consumption (Just for fun find the Lewis Black video called “Drinking in Wisconsin” *NSFW* on Youtube to give you an idea). There are dozens of bars/brewpubs/breweries/distilleries/vineyards in and around the area. If you consume alcohol you will have no problems finding something that suits you even if your tastes are more esoteric (we even had cideries and meaderys). Here are just a couple of suggestions for each type:
Breweries: (All of these locations have outdoor beer gardens if the weather is good, some even have music and limited food)
New Glarus Brewing: Home of the global sensation “Spotted Cow” that you cannot get out of state.
Capital Brewery: An old school favorite in the 608
Wisconsin Brewery: The former brewmasters from Capital and Lake Louie. If you’re a a fan of serious Scotch Ale’s look for their Louie’s Reserve (affectionally known as liquid reefer).
Karben 4: Home of such Madtown favorites as Hopalicious and Fantasy Factory.
Brewpubs:
Vintage Brewing: With several locations in and around the area, this is a sure bet for great beer (‘m friends with the owners and brewmaster) along with their “Elevated Americana” cuisine
Great Dane Pub & Brewing Company: Another long time Madison standard with locations all around town
The Lone Girl Brewing Company: Located north of Madison in “The Only Waunakee in the World” this smaller location on the quaint Main Street in Waunakee has a great rooftop beer garden with a fire pit, blankets for those chilly evenings and often music. The food, beer and cocktails are also awesome.
Hop Haus Brewing Company: Located south of Madison in Fitchburg, this up and coming brew pub is a little more eclectic than the others.
Downtown Bars: So many options to choose from, but here are the most well known ones
State Street Brats: They serve Sheboygan “red” brats here and have been around forever.
Wandos: The home of the “fishbowl” drinks as well as the place “Jump Around” was originally conceived (check out the ESPN video about that).
Jordan’s Big Ten Pub: Just down the street from Camp Randall, they hold big outdoor tailgates on game day and have bands on a regular basis
The Kollege Klub: located near the fraternity/sorority houses, this is usually a favorite in that community.
Game Day vibes:
If kickoff on game day is at 2:30 (CDT) and the weather is good, make sure you find time to go to the Dane County Farmers Market on the capital square. It is the largest producers only farmers market in the country. Besides the fresh veggies, produce, flowers, meats and obviously cheeses, the #1 attraction is Stella’s Bakery’s Spicy Cheesy Bread. People line up for it and walk around the square pulling hunks of the warm gooey deliciousness out to munch on.
If Kickoff is 11am, go wait on line at Micky’s Dairy Bar early and with cash. It’s an old school greasy spoon breakfast spot across from Camp Randall that will give you a huge “base” to start your day. Come hungry!
Tailgating at Camp Randall is VERY different from what you’re used to. While there are a few (very distant) parking lots that you could conceivably tailgate from, most of the action is down around the stadium where groups commandeer every traffic island, parking lot etc to have a tailgate. Most bars anywhere near Madison will also run shuttles to the game so that you don’t have to worry about finding your way and driving around the insanity. If you enjoy watching co-eds chug beer funnels, check out the houses just on the western side of Camp Randall. Basically wandering around the area is a great people watching experience.
If you’d prefer a tamer more structured tailgate, the UW hosts their “Badger Bash” at the Memorial Union South before every game. This is where the Badger Band perform before every game and include the spirit squads along with local media handing out trinkets and souvenirs. They have food and drink available as well. Plus you can get your picture taken with Bucky Badger.
During the game: There’s one reason (besides seeing RU) that you’re probably coming and that is to take part in one of the best traditions in college football. The JUMP AROUND happens at the end of the third quarter usually just after whatever “race” they show on the video board. Make sure you are not in the bathrooms or waiting online for food etc then. It’s truly an experience.
Post game: The band hosts the “5th Quarter” on the field. This is when they play all the Wisconsin favorites and get everyone to sing along. It’s a long tradition in Madison and thousands of people stay around for it.
Post Post Game: The Terrace at the Memorial Union (not the union where Badger Bash is located) is a beautiful lakeside spot on the campus to enjoy the sun(set) along with food and beer. They often have entertainment. They are most well known for their iconic terrace chairs and the breathtaking views of Lake Mendota. Or you could just stroll up and down State Street and enjoy the night life up and down the pedestrian mall.

There is so much more to do and see here and I'm happy to answer any questions you have. #UpStreamRedTeam #ScarletNotCardinal

Great, more reasons to stay in the stadium after the game is over. Sigh.

We land in Milwaukee at 9:20am on Friday. What do you have planned? I'm starting that planning process now.
The 2 must-eats on Friday or Saturday:

Dotty’s Dumpling Dowery - the proclaimed “Hamburger Capital of the World” … you must get the cheese curds from here or you wasted your trip - https://dottydumplingsdowry.com/

Second, for later Friday night, the Nitty Gritty … one of the great college bars in the world, have to get the Spotted Cow - sold only in Wisconsin (illegal to sell across state lines), a sweet & tangy mix between a blonde and pilsner

Both are must-sees as a college football/visiting college campuses fan

We’re flying in Friday night, see you all bright and early Saturday morning no matter the game time.

Debating whether to bring my red or black Rutgers gear…

Was looking for photos of Rutgers at Wisconsin, and found mostly RU fans wearing red/scarlet. But found this--RU fans will feel right at home!:
@koleszar @RUPete @kupuna133 @RUtrumpet92 @sct1111 @RU4Real --come on out to Camp Randall!!

"The first half was one of the worst atmospheres I’ve been a part of at Camp Randall. The DJ was embarrassing and interrupted our great announcer, the refs, and our offense."

"I really wish the UW would stop trying to add “more intense and exciting” crap. The atmosphere at Camp Randall used to be legendary, now it’s just blaring music and students scrolling on TikTok. Let the band play, the students lead chants, and actually have an engaged crowd."

"One of the more disappointing atmospheres to me was Indiana, where they did exactly this. Pumped music through the speakers the pregame/game. It came off as inauthentic energy. They were trying to compensate for not having much energy in the fanbase for the football team and you could tell. Felt like I was at a bottom tier professional sporting event."

"It's COLLEGE football. The band and the guy who plays, buttercup, jump around and sweet Caroline is all that's needed for music. There doesn't need to be someone pumping music every second football isn't being played. Hopefully they get rid of that guy."

"Our athletic staff doesn't know how to run events or cultivate an exciting atmosphere. Just look at basketball and hockey.
Louder doesn't mean better. Certainly not every single time. A DJ that is some weird boomer dumbass that has dogshit taste in music doesn't help."

"I just think it was way to loud. My season tickets are in Q and i couldn’t even talk about the game with fans around us because it was so loud that is not a fun atmosphere"
