Wonder what impact this Board had on Mehringer's Decision

No doubt he made a lot of mistakes, and his play-calling left a lot to be desired, but what were people expecting of a year 1 coordinator with little talent to work with? Any offense is going to struggle when your OL is being dominated.

Very disappointed that he chose to high tail it out of here the first opportunity he got.
I really would have liked to have seen what he could do with the talent coming in next year. Now we're left to wonder.

Pretty sure it is simpler than that, Al. He's got a chance to turn around a blueblood with his mentor in the state he'd lived in for years. Young guy without a family to consider in this. He may have his hope set on taking over one of the smaller Texas programs in a decade or so and then climbing the ladder, and having coached at Texas is a big stepping stone, especially if he helps turn it around.

Here's the thing, if this Board had any impact on his decision, then we are absolutely fortunate that he chose to leave. In fairness, what reaction would he expect the fans to have when you run the worst ranked offense in the entire country. As stated above, this has nothing to do with RU and everything to do with working again for his mentor at one of the best football factories in the country.

NONE (unless he is totally immature or a P*ssy-in which case he's not ready to me an OC let alone head coach.

Like I said before (and I watched a few of the weekly internet shows) he was very likely frustrated Rutgers hadn't (and the near future doesn't look so bright as in B1G champs) recruited the horses he needs to run his offense. Such could not help and certainly might hurt his career path.

Many also seem to be overlooking Texas in this equation. UT Austin is one of the TOP state universities and one of the best, hippest college towns there is. Home to the South By Southwest Festival. Texas has a storied football history, and the state itself as good as fans and potential recruits as anyone. Plus Johnny "Lamb Jones" and Johnny "Ham" Jones played for Texas. In Texas Mehringer has a half built stable of horses already I would presume. Plus he's friends with Tom Herman (his mentor?) and knows what type of offense Herman will run while the jury on Ash is still out there so to speak.

I'm a grad of both Rutgers (2x) and North Carolina (and Chapel Hill is a top state U, perhaps the nicest campus there is and has been considered the top sports program in the country. Texas has stolen staff from both my schools. They once stole R great strength coach Rock Gullickson? and from Carolina (besides academic staff-actually one of my UNC profs wound up at RU) then once stole another prodigy football coach (once called the future of college football when hired during my 1988) you may have heard of-Mack Brown.

Coaches and recRUits should always take the messageboards with a grain of salt. Theres a lot of AD wannabees (as there R in the TD and Court Clubs) and negatoids-oft with their own agendas. However the volume and passion of the posts demonstrates the Rutgers has a huge, rapid fan base that wants to WIN and maximize the reputation of the university.

While it is wrong to continue to dump on our recent OC, I cannot help wondering if he knew just how unprepared he was for the job. I wonder if he was just a case of near-millennial ego run amok.
