Zach Allen TCU transfer

we should always want competition here. its not like we have some dominant superstar already at the QB position like a Manziel, Manning, or Luck. if they can't handle competing, then they were destined for the bench anyways.

I would expect we lose at least one of our QB's to transfer. With Allen, they get a guy that has already experienced college football and what is involved in it, 3 years of S&C and he fits our offense. If for nothing else, it raises the competition, brings in a guy who if he doesnt start, can help the starter adjust and can be thrown in there if needed even if it is just to pitch or run. Having 2 years left, also doesnt back any other potential QB's away from us. This would be a no brainer.

I find it a bit disheartening that we seem to be scrambling around for a Qb that can play immediately, the staff not feeling secure with what we have right now ....
It might be more about how good, or ready, our third string potential QBs are than about Laviano or Rettig. Perhaps the coaching staff wants to build some depth of experience in backups since having a regularly running QB against some of the very hard hitting Big Ten teams we play has a higher than pro-style likelihood of injuries.

A 4th string QB who has thrown a total of 2 passes in the last 2 seasons is now being anointed as the savior.

Linked story seems to indicate he has been injured in high school and in college.

1 year in college. And he was 4th string his healthy year. And even his injured college year he CAUGHT more passes than he threw.

The consensus seems to be that considering our current QB staff, it doesn't hurt to bring this guy in and see what he's got.

Why is it so difficult for RU to find QBs???? For the past several years, schools like Houston, Cinn, and Wash State have had them! Our last good QB was Mike Teel at the end of his time here. And that is now ancient history!!!!!!!
Those teams have coaches who teach the position. It was 4 years before Nova had a coach who taught him to read defenses.

Agree no harm bring him in to find out if he's as good as thought of when he came out of HS, or did TCU find out he wasn't as good as advertised.
Ash and Mehringer need to see and talk to Zack Allan before they make that decision
Also , like what was posted before in this thread, a QB might just decide to transfer leaving
a spot open on the QB depth chart .
Could be more than one since it seems only Chris and Hayden are being looked at as the starter and the one not starting probably will be #2.

As it stands now, neither Rettig or Lavaino are standing out in the fight for #1 and those behind them aren't taking advantage of it.
Alan despite his lack of production at TCU might be someone who can push for a starting position or in the attempt make Rettig and/or Laviano up their game and start showing they ( or one of them) have what it takes to win the starting QB position along with running the RU O effectively.

RB/WR #23 (Keith Buhl) in the Zach Allen highlight film looked pretty outstanding. He ended up playing ball at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (DIII) but is no longer on the roster. I wonder what happened to him.

The consensus down there seems to be that he wasn't even in the mix to replace Boykin. 3rd string at best. Sure, it doesn't hurt to bring the guy in, but he's already becoming the anointed one. What's next, people getting excited by the possibility of the QB from William Paterson transferring in?

I don't see any evidence of "scrambling". Seems like they are just exploring possibilities and listening to see if someone is better and can help win. Rather have that than complacency.

If you don't see any evidence of scrambling you aren't paying attention. They are looking at every immediately eligible QB transfer with a pulse. Including those with very limited time at the position. Any staff that is happy with its options is not doing that.

Who in this thread is anointing him anything? Not seeing the people you are referring to as saying he is anything but adding another guy to the mix?

Maybe I'm not paying attention, but what QB with immediate eligibility other than this kid Allen have the coaches brought in?

We are looking to add one graduate transfer QB, of course we're going to check out many options out there, doesn't mean everyone will be offered.

Has he declared he will only consider the QB position , he played a little WR and maybe wants to continue

Because we had Flood as head coach previously.

So if Flood was indeed the reason why we didn't have a good QB since Teel, then why did so many people on this board so blindly and stupidly support and even love the guy?! Just because he was a Rutgers person at the time does not mean we have to support him! He was inept and never qualified at this level. He took us back years!!!!!

There are people--sadly many--who feel that because it is your school you must agree and support every decision, every person who works for Rutgers. Insane.

Because I was young and gullible?

I`d scholly this guy in a second even if his ceiling was to become a capable #2. And with our stable that seems likely. And if he becomes #1 than it was an even smarter move
