39 yds passing.

I’m not saying so disagree but Greg has a history of bringing in some pretty darn good wide outs despite a style that favors the run. Sanu was no slouch. I think we’ll be able to sell the potential to be the signature receiving threat on a winning team. That’s always been Greg’s approach. Now can we land a stud passing QB? That’s a different question entirely.
I honestly think a WR with a head on his shoulders can see that he could be the difference maker. GW makes some insanely good throws and has good mechanics. A lot of the lack of throwing "success" also falls on us playing with a bunch of number 3 WR's- the two guys that were to be 1 and 2 have not played a single snap.

Also- attracting a Sanu was pretty easy when not too much earlier, he was watching Britt/Underwood/Brown and we just signed a 4 star QB with a huge arm.

A little comparison:

Wimsatt has thrown about 350 passes with 13 interceptions so far in his carrer. Mike Teel who was great for us threw 23 interceptions in his first 2 seasons with about 400 attempts. Teel finished with 49 interceptions over his career. Mike had a lot of tools to work with. Not sure Gavin has the same level of support and I suspect comparatively speaking our opposition now is stronger than we faced back then.

There is no reason to think now that Gavin who is still only 19 will not improve as his career unfolds. Let's enjoy the ride.

This post is a phenomenal point of what GS likes to develop.

I know we won, but 39 yds passing is pretty bad. Our offense needs to be more balanced.
BTW, KC considers balance this:
One game we run/pass 50/50
Another game we run/pass 80/20
next game we may run pass 20/80

That's balance...To be able to do what you need to to win...I'm OK with last week. We won rather easily in the second half...

whatever works is what I want.
6-2 looks good to me, so it's working 😁
just not perfectly 😇

I think Nova had a similar upwards to the right trajectory.

Why would you think that these "conclusions" are based on one game?

That's a little condescending.
The title of the thread is 39 yards passing? Will go back and look, but then we have posters saying WR and TE recruits will pass on RU because there is no passing game. Well, that narrative could be flipped, and in line with what Howard Griffith (Griffin?) said on BTN, Rutgers will get "better" players. The pass game is developing. That's all. But we have a 4-5 page thread with multiple people seemingly crying the sky is falling.

Great post. Here's the direct comparison with Gavin. Teel obviously threw more and has a higher completion rate, but didn't really have a better TD/INT ratio until his 3rd year, and these stats don't include running yards/impact at all and we all know Gavin has far better/more impactful running stats than Teel. I think everyone can agree that Gavin can improve his accuracy (look at Teel's progression and similar progressions for many other young college QBs), but those who are throwing him under the bus saying he can't be a successful passer, in addition to being a very successful runner (which he has absolutely demonstrated), are simply wrong and often very mean-spirited about it.

I'm not performing a statistical analysis, here. What I'm saying is that watching the kid for 2+ years, it strikes me that a lot of his passes aren't on the money - even some of the completions.

Some people want to turn that into some hill to die on. Me? Zero f*cks. I'm a spectator. I got boat shoppin' I gotta do.

I get what he's saying. Gavin was 5 for 12 for 39. The inaccuracy couldn't have been more evident and it's a concern. There are teams on the schedule much better at defending the run than Indiana and our inability to throw the ball will box us in.
It has been mentioned there were three drops by receivers. If Gavin was 8 for 12 and closer to 100 yards maybe people would have been a little happier.

Nothing makes a WR recruit want to commit to your program more than 39 yards passing against Indiana. We'd better embrace Schianoball and the Wing-RPO offense, lest we be looked at as ungrateful fans.
Army, Navy, and Air Force each had more passing yards Saturday.
In the spirit of Christmas which is 2 months away. Bah Humbug. Oh, Army and Navy lost with more than 39 passing yards. So there's that.

I'm so famous! Hah.

My general response to "we are like everyone else in the Big Ten. It's not a passing conference" has always been - why do we want to copy everyone? Zig when they are zagging.
Note - were bringing in 4 Pac 12 teams next year.

2nd: I'm hesitant on the "as the players get better, we'll open up the offense".
Have heard that for years.

HC Pike (is appears) is living up to "as we get better players, we'll play faster, try to score more and shoot more 3s".

Next year will be interesting if we do open it up or if it's more "well the players still aren't there yet".
I think what you are saying is McNulty!!!! 😜
We don't always agree, but I love what you post, even when I disagree.

The **** is your point? You're a chronic whiner. If no drops, Wimsatt is 9-12. That's 75% completion percentage.

You're the type of "fan" that would still be nitpicking after Rutgers won the B1G or the natty.

Classless.

Like I give half a shit what you think about anything, ya ignorant f*ck.

It’s not as easy to overhaul football offense so as noted above needed recruiting will be difficult
We don't need to overhaul the offense to entice potential WR recruits, we can merely use more of the passing plays currently in the playbook.....which we have done(to some extent) in previous games, and probably will do so more in upcoming games.

Really?
Injuries in the game are going to happen, that's a fact.
I would like to see the data backing up yer statement.
Injuries will definitely happen but more so when your QB’s throws are all over the place , receivers get hurt when they try to catch highly inaccurate passes, hence the term hung out to dry in football.

Well thats yer view and opinion but where are the facts to back it up???

I always used to think the same thing until I talked to a couple of NFL WR's about some of the hits they take...And this was before all the new rules protecting them.
They told me that getting hit when you are in the air may look bad but doesn't hurt as much as a lesser hit when you have your feet on the ground.

And that's how a lot of lower body or core (think lower back) injuries occur.

I'm going to say a 100% run or 100% pass offense has similar "injury concerns" as a whole regardless of which side you are on.

Unless people are worried about specific position groups over others.
