Pike gave him the ball as a true frosh and with the season on the line, he took the final shot in the last game that Caleb McConnell, Cam Spencer and Paul Mulcahy would ever play for Rutgers.
Think about that.
I don’t think Pike “made a mistake” if the kid wanted some kind of guarantee of minutes since he followed up that performance by shooting 30% from the floor as a sophomore.
He had two incredible weeks in a Rutgers uniform.
And at the end of last year, it seemed clear J Williams was better.
Let’s not turn Simpson’s time at RU into remembering Jeremy Lin only for the Week of Linsanity.
I am happy for Derek and am rooting for him to do well. Just like I did when Peter Kiss left.
But I’d think that if we’ve learned nothing else these last two years, it’s that success at lower levels doesn’t always translate as much as we’d all like to think and Pike doesn’t get to decide when players transfer.

Love have posters falling back on shooting while ignoring ball handling, defense, foul shooting, hustle, free throw shooting, steals, wins against Maryland, Indiana, PSU. Last second shot to win game was a bad thing? Did that happen against Kennesaw? Rhetorical? Maybe not
Stop with the lower level stuff too. Granted A10 isn’t the B1G but still an upper echelon conference.
