OT: Problems in UCLA Locker Room

National laughing stock

Some of you guys have a really inflated sense of how much anyone besides Rutgers fans are thinking about Rutgers. Managing to put together the 85th best team with one really good player and one really high potential player is at most an interesting tidbit but more realistically completely off the radar of anyone who is not already interested in Rutgers sports.

Big Ten job a stepping stone for an ACC job?
Easier to make your defense look good and rank higher nationally when there is lack of competition. Minnesota week in week out has less or equal talent as their B1G competition. Miami in conference only is equal or behind one program talent wise.

OT: Problems in UCLA Locker Room

So you wanted him fired after Houston in 2021 but waited until 2023 to join the board? And since then 90% of your posts are targeted at the coach in thread after thread after thread. Something else is at play here as it’s hard to believe that this tremendous animosity is all because you think he’s a lousy coach.
I said I was done with him and also recognized he earned the right to his extension even though it was too long. I did join the boards late but I was busy with young kids sports etc.

I love this school and know we have the ability to be a consistent program in athletics. The difference is I critgue my school the same way I would any other school. Most ppl on this board bleed scarlet red as well BUT are willing to move heaven and earth to provide every excuse they can for our coaches simply because they are here.

Pike had one solid recruiting class that was helped by Covid. That team over performed and was ruined from greater heights by Pike. The Houston game , the ND game, the MINN game costing us a tourney berth. 3 years in a row the inept Pike took glory from those kids and us. Pike said after the ND game that the standard at Rutgers was making the NCAA tournament and anything less in unacceptable.(His words no one asked him to say that he believed that). Well he has not met his own standard since and has become progressively worst every year. He is going to miss the BIG ten tourney let alone NCAA and ppl are saying give him time and will be better next year. (Delusional). Why is Rutgers not great in sports? We all know it’s over right now BUT lets argue to stay on the ship .

Now he has gutted the team , has made us a National laughing stock, and has us set up to win less then 10 game next year.

Our fan base continues to fight to keep him and believe he can turn it around!
my animosity is towards the fans who don’t understand how to build a consistent program and lobby for a man who clearly is not the guy.

The Sad Truth

Ace is a raw talent but a good coach would get more out of him than Pike. This year is in no way on Ace and Dylan.
Ace is extremely talented but he's not more than a mid-tier Big Ten starter at this point. That's not bad if you can get a new Ace year after year but it's probably not as good as getting a 4 year player if that's something that is still even possible. RHJ and Geo and Caleb and Cliff and Myles all did more for Rutgers basketball than Ace will have.

People act like this is "blaming" Ace or taking shots at him or whatever; it's not. No one denies the potential that he is going to be drafted for. No one even denies that he is already really good *for a freshman*. But sadly the *for a freshman* part becomes irrelevant when you only have him for one year.

Again, Ace is not the problem with this team. Ace is the second best player on the team. But that's a separate problem and discussion. I would argue that Ace was way overrated *as a college recruit*. There are a bunch of players from his high school class that will have far more impactful college careers while Ace is busy playing in the NBA.

Brad Wachtel: “Might be time to pull the plug”

So stop being an ass and just say so ! Everytime he tweets about Rutgers it’s never framed in a positive light and the negative tweets are over the top. Does he comment about teams like that ?Never. !!!!
Why in the world should he say anything positive about a horse’s ass year?

Measured journalism doesn’t exist, it’s bias, while over the top is consumer friendly, plus they lie regularly.

Would have liked him at RU. Seems to truly have been the difference in our defensive coaching as the Dark Side.
Same here and I'm sure we missed him but the injuries had a much bigger impact than his departure. In 2023 we had 3 guys who are considered high level DC's if you count Schiano. All high energy guys who got the D fired up too. But it's hard to get a guy playing hurt to get too fired up and play "violent" every snap. Much easier when everyone is healthy. Plus we had a lot of missed assignments this year with new guys forced into action.

Based on the recruiting class and the portal additions I'm guessing recruits are buying in on the Defensive side of the ball.

USC ran good stuff against Illini

two really good teams. And to think Rutgers could’ve beaten Alabama and should’ve beaten A&M.
Forgot to mention , 55 ridiculous fouls were called in the game and Texas A& M shot 28-48 missing 20 and Alabama was 27-40 missing 13 from the foul line . Both teams missed and also took a ton of foul shots (88) . That is 3-4 games worth for a lot of teams . A&M extra 7 misses cost them the game as they lost by 6.
