Thursday Results of Interest - And The Week So Far

Every so often I think I will post this. Thursday 11/21 had a full slate of college games. I found a number of games of interest. Obviously, RU opponents, Big Ten teams are of the most interest, but there are always other interesting games.

Big Ten Teams:

1) Indiana beat UNC Greensboro - by 11 points.

2) Michigan on easily and big over Tarleton St - by 23 (Tarleton w/i 13 with 7 minutes left)

3) Oregon rallied, on the road, to beat Oregon St., after being down 10 at the half.

4) On Wednesday, FYI: Penn State did beat Purdue-Fort Worth, 102-89 .. trailed by 11 late in the 1st half, trailed at half, and trailed with 13 minutes left, before pulling away.

Major Conference Games:

1) Baylor beat St. Johns with a 3 at the buzzer, in 2 OT - heartbreaker after St. Johns missed 2 FT's. Note: Top 5 projected pick Edgecombe, who is starting for Baylor and having a decent start to the season (10 ppg?), was 4-15 FG, 10 points.

2) On a neutral court, Syracuse lost to Texas - a quality loss.

3) In a neutral court game, U of Miami LOST, to a currently undefeated Drake team, 80-69 ... Drake won while going 4-19 from 3 ... but it was not even that close: After going down 7-3, Syracuse NEVER had the ball with a chance to even tie the game - they trailed by 7-10 points essentially the entire game, though got to within 5 points after just 2 made baskets in the 2nd half, and to within 4 points one time.

4) Nobody but me probably cares, but my best friend is a huge Virginia fan: UVA got crushed 68-42 by Tennessee ... looks like UVA will continue to have trouble scoring this year.

5) Oklahoma St lost to Florida Atlantic.

6) St. Josephs BEAT Texas Tech, 78-77 ... As pointed out elsewhere, Simpson played 36 minutes, 0-6 FG, 0-2 3-point, 0 points ... he did have 5 assists and just 1 turnover. St. Joes, it looks like, basically goes just 6 deep ... with maybe a 7th player getting 8-12 minutes per game.

7) Vandy squeaked by a potentially good Nevada team.

RU Opponents:

1) SHU beat VCU - important win for them ... 69-66. Strange early season for SHU. They have just 1 player averaging mor than 9 ppg: Chaunce Jenkins (16/g), and just 2 players even averaging 8 ppg or better (Wusu averages 8 ppg) ... 2 other players average 7.5 ppg.

2) On Tuesday, Wagner beat BU, 60-58

3) St. Peter's has won 2 games since the RU game (though 1 was entirely meaningless, and the other was against a weak team).

4) Monmouth has struggled since the RU game, losing to Youngstown St and Wichita St.

5) Kennesaw St won Wednesday night, vs Abilene Christian, 84-78. They score a lot, and shoot a fair amount of 3's. Their leading scorer, Cottle, averages almost 19 per game - and have 3 other double digit scorers, shoot 38% from 3 as a team with their top 2 volume 3-point shooters each shooting 48% or better from 3.

6) Notre Dame is 4-0, winning easily Tuesday over North Dakota. Beat Georgetown, Stonehill easily, and won by 9 over Buffalo (after trailing at half time). They have a star scorer, in Burton, averaging 20 ppg, plus 2 other double-digit scorers, including the coach's son.

7) Princeton lost Thursday night to a 4-2 Wright St team - and now sits at 4-2 themselves (they had previously lost to what may be a good Loyola-Chicago team, beating Iona, Duquesne, Northeastern and Merrimack (Clark scored 24 against Princeton, FYI).

8) COLUMBIA, FYI, is currently 6-0, if you can believe it. They beat Long Island U on Wednesday on the road. Columbia has beaten Villanova (on the road, Loyola-MD (on the road), Mercy, Delaware St and Lehigh ... the jewel being Villanova (even with Villanove being obviously weak this year, that is a very good win for Columbia)

The Truth about this team

This is the most talented team Rutgers has had in the banks since I started religiously watching them in 1998.

No team is close.

And this negativity needs to stop.

Our two super frosh are the two best players to wear a RU uni since 98. And it’s not close. Not RHJ, Douby, Geo, Corey come close to matching either of these two skill sets.

But I don’t think that’s in question. It’s the supporting cast that has everyone worried.

It’s been 4.5 games.

Since 98 let’s compare our roster up and down to the best we’ve had the last 26 years.

And lets start with coaching. Who have we had that’s a better coach then pike. Waters, maybe, I guess, someone could make an argument, but not close imo. And no one else is within earshot. In pike I trust.

Martini-seems to be a physical PF, and someone content to be a role player. He’ll get the tough rebound and lose ball, is good around the rim and for a big man a very good shooter. Only player I can compare him to is is Kent, who yeah I’d prefer for this team, but he’s on his level. The other guy i can think of is that guy with the crazy hair from the same time frame. Can’t remember his name, we loved him because he was different not for his game. Martini better then him.

Jordan - let’s be honest here. Isn’t he sort of everything we always wanted Paul to be.

PJ /acuff - best comp for both is Cam. Cam was better, but who else have we had, Webb (loved him), billet who was a role player but forced into a top of the rotation role, these current guys are both better then them.

My only real concern is our bigs.

Somerville - who as a fresh I think cliff and Myles (loved him too) were better. And LS seems to be more of a 4 than a 5. LS is a different type of big, I don’t know if this is gonna hurt. EO- I don’t know. He’s big. Gonna have to trust coaching staff here.

Jamichael - as far as a comp goes JY, no doubt. I’ll admit it, I am still pissed about how Jacob young was used durning his time on the banks. JY was way way better. But Ja’s only comp is JY and that’s saying something.

Williams, who I think is a good player, I’m worried about him. Just seems like a square peg in a round hole for this squad. I think he is most similar to that Canadian who went to OR. And I didn’t like him as a a player either.

What we don’t have is a defensive specialist. No caleb. And I don’t care. As a defensive player I thought he would make it on the next level, but he didn’t because the modern game is all about offense.

But you put this all together, ladies and gentlemen, we have the best all around talent we have had on the banks in the last 25 years+.

Let’s not NY this thing and get all negative about not killing some lower level team. Or if we do lose some games in Nov or December, let’s act like we’ve been here before and have the Yankees/Duke type of attitude that this team will be rounding into form when it matters most in March.

FB Recruiting 2025 DE Chase Linton decommits from Rutgers Football

Dont worry. Just sit back and enjoy the next 4 years of peace, prosperity and a secure border!
The usual brainwashed lefty suspects only believe what Rich Maddow tells them. See Madhatter's unhinged fearmongering post about socialist fascist nazis and Trump that was liked by his lib sheep bros. Sad.

OT: New York Mets 2024-2025 Off Season Thread

He didn't defend, but he also had one of the most elite offensive seasons in the history of baseball. His offensive output was almost 2x of anyone else under consideration. He absolutely deserved MVP.
I think the MVP award should have a defined meaning. It's not a popularity contest, and it appears to be that. It seems the award takes on different meanings each year according to how the voters feel and see things.

This may be the best team, but if so, it's almost purely because of Ace and Dylan, whose talent greatly exceeds anyone before them.

I disagree about Martini being an overly tough/physical player. His rebounding is worse than Aundre Hyatt. He is an excellent hustle guy, and I does knock down his open jumpers. I didn't love his pick up when it seemed he was coming as a 5, but can live with him 20 ish minutes at the 4. Really need better D/rebounding from him though. I don't think there is any comparison to Kent.

I had no idea what to expect from Derkack, he's been a nice surprise, but worry his game and foot speed will prove to be a little slow for this level.

Billet was probably better than both Acuff and PJ, but it's close. Not sure you could call Billet a role player, didn't average 30+ minutes every year and score double digits? Shot 40%+ from 3 on decent attempts. I like Acuff, need him healthy, and PJ has been better overall than I expected, but his playing time has been a little less over the four games, so Pike may not like something there. Be interesting what happens with these two as the rotation shrinks.

Jmike and JWill are repetitive. I said all offseason I didn't like JWill's fit next to Dylan unless he suddenly improved his shooting greatly. He hasn't.

We really could have used Grant or Dortch to be good 3 and D but tough to expect from true freshman.

Overrated?

I see where this has been stated by the talking heads. Have to think a performance like last night would certainly help to lead to that assessment.
We play a team that is 4-1 on Sunday at their place. I think this will be a watershed kind of game for us. We better show up with a lot more fire in our bellies if we want to win this one.
I think people are mistaking lack of experience, which leads to tentativeness, for lack of intensity on defense. Whether it’s playing an instrument or a sport, you can’t jam out if you’re still concentrating on playing the right notes/being in the right spot.
