Last night was our worst defensive night since November 16, 2019.....but

the numbers other than the last 5 minutes tell a complete opposite picture.

Funny how our view of things change when the outcome goes a certain way.

I include myself....i didn't get the sense we were bad defensively, but when you go back and look at the data (and film) we were bad.

There were 64 possessions and we gave up 82 points...this is fact and not opinion. Nebraska was not red hot shooting both from 3 and the FT line.
There was a stretch in the second half where it seemed like Nebraska scored points on every possession. That changed though down the stretch, but the damage was already done to the defensive metrics as it seemed like Nebraska was getting some sort of points every time they had the ball for about the first 12 minutes of the second half.

I think we also have such a low bar with this group and grade them on a curve when it comes to defense that when we don’t see the opponent flying in for wide open dunks and layups, as we saw earlier in the season, we say “the defense looks better”. That early season defense was atrocious and created the grading curve. In all reality the defense is better, but it’s not like this group is ever going to be a lockdown group holding teams to 55 points for wins. A great defensive effort from them is more like giving up 65 points. They just have to be “good enough” on defense, last night they were not great on defense but did enough to win.

THE OFFICIAL 2024-2025 NET RANKINGS THREAD

The most Rutgers thing ever would be turning this season around, going 8-4 and then playing Minnesota last game in a must win game and losing that game……I have seen that movie before. In all honesty, I might take that scenario as we would at least be watching meaningful basketball the rest of the way.

Honestly the most Pike thing ever would be going 8-4 and then building a 20 point lead against Minny, giving it all back, but eventually gritting out like a 2 point win.

OT: NJ Devils 2024-2025 Thread

Probably fortunate to get a point last night given they got caved in the entire 3rd period. Something has to give with the bottom 6 forwards. They are just giving nothing.
  • Haula: 0 points in last 17 games (injured since 1/4)
  • Lazar: 1 goal, 1 assist in 22 games all season
  • Tatar: 1 assist in last 17 games
  • Bastian: 1 assist in last 17 games
  • Cotter: 3 goals, 1 assist in last 27 games
  • MacDermid/Bowers/Legare/Dowling/Hardman/Foote: 2 goals, 1 assist in 58 total games
That's 11 points from the bottom 6 in basically 20% of the whole season. That's more than just a bad stretch. Some of it is circumstantial - they were banking on recapturing the magic with Hischier and Tatar, but Tatar is borderline unplayable. So Noesen has been forced into the top-6. I like Cotter's overall game a lot, but his early scoring completely dried up. We're in year 6 of Nate Bastian and he offers nothing.

Fitz needs to and will shake this all up.

Last night was our worst defensive night since November 16, 2019.....but

The box score linked to this board is showing 17 OReb for RU and only 14 OReb for Nebraska.

This one shows 19 for Nebraska.

There wasn’t a lot of defensive rebounding going on for either team lol.

Upcoming Games (MBB)

Does ESPN release winning odds for MBB like they do for CFB? I'm curious what they have on the next 6 games.

I know it's only been 2 close wins and it could be a fluke. But our next six of the last 13 are crucial if we want to make our way back into the post season convo:

@PSU
v MSU
@ NW
v Mich
v Illi
@ Maryland

We'll need to go 5-1 here basically.

That'll take us to 15-9 (8-5) going into the last 7. Still an uphill climb from there and probably need 4-5 of the last 7.

Great read. Thanks. Very interesting stuff.

Basketball Rutgers Basketball stuns Nebraska on the road with three-point barrage

Bailey’s release at present is much better than earlier in the year
Bailey as a whole has played excellent the last 8 games versus the first 8

47% from field, 37% from 3 are both pretty strong for a volume shooter

More importantly 9 rebounds per game over the last 6 games and 2.5 blocks

OT: oh oh oh Ozempic !

Ozempic is a weekly injection that's approved by the FDA to treat type 2 diabetes in adults. It's not approved for weight loss, but some doctors prescribe it for that purpose.

I believe the same thing happened with Fen Phen in the early 90's which was just supposed to be used for obesity, but then doctors started prescribing it to everybody who wanted to quickly drop a few pounds.
