BACATOLOGY 2/24: NCAA TOURNAMENT ANALYSIS

In the discussion is In was the debate. I still think a hard sell with 14 losses and a 15th coming..2 Q3 losses that others don't have.
You are saying that even if they won out, got to 17-14, that they were on the bubble but still OUT, correct? Only hope of getting in would have been if committee paid attention to them rattling off a minimum of 3 BTT wins, I assume. They would be 20-15, but committee could have basically determined the field and that they were already out based upon the 17-14 resume. I am surmising that even if we won the Michigan game, we were pushing a rock up a hill regardless as we were not being selected. Only shot for us was finish regular season with 5 straight wins, then rattle off 3 more in BTT (now up to 8 straight wins, my word) and then committee takes account of our BTT exploits and then selects us as an at large. That was a near impossible task, a real Sisyphus pushing the rock up the hill kind of task.

BACATOLOGY 2/24: NCAA TOURNAMENT ANALYSIS

Bac, I have a general seeding and placement question for you.
I understand why #1 and #2 seeds get placed in the reigons, but it is mostly a mystery to me how placement in the first round sites are determined. More specifficaly, I have tickets for Cleveland and am on the fence if I should go. Im assuming at least 1 or 2 Big10 teams will be there. Do you have any insights or best guesses on who might be placed there? Thanks and keep up the good work. I really appreciate and respect your opinions and hard work. This board is fortunate to have you.

OT: 2025 NY Giants Off Season Thread

Are the stats wrong? Fact is he would be the best QB the Giants had since Manning.
If you take his numbers from last season with the Jets and assume similar numbers with the Giants in 2025...when he is one year deeper into his forties...then I guess you would be hoping the Giants sign him. And wondering why the Jets gave up on him. Although i suggest you take a look at his numbers with Gang Green in 2023.
Regardless of his numbers, the guy is an ass and I could never root for a team that he is quarterbacking.

Any chance we can fire Pikiell for cause?

I’ve always found it funny that losing too much is not a “cause” for firing a coach, although I do understand that’s how the contract works

It certainly is a cause - obviously it’s the reason why most coaches are fired - they don’t win enough

But you are confusing that with the situation when someone with a contract like pike is fired for “cause” and the employer is trying to get out of paying them - in that situation the employee needs to have done something that put them in breach of their contract - some type of misconduct for example or let’s say pike just stopped going to practices or failed to show up for games. Clearly in breach.

My understanding is that absent some type of misconduct or such breach, simply not meeting expectations is not “cause” by which an employee (with a contract like pike) doesn’t get paid their contract

The question is not whether they can fire pike.

They can fire him right now if they wanted to but = $$$$$$

Five Most Brutal Losses of 2024-25 Season

A little quantification of how bad our defense is this year

There is 78 “power 5” programs …I didn’t go crazy, but it looks like our kenpom is in the mid 60s out of the 78 programs ….
The defense was brutal and it never really improved. Seemed like points in the paint and buckets allowed at the rim got worse over the last 5 games. Either way, the defense in the paint never really improved from game 1 to game 29. Blame it on lack of rim protection with Cliff leaving, not acquiring an adequate rim protecting replacement in the portal, Lathan and Ogbole getting absolutely lost when helping/cheating on screens, players who did not defend well off the dribble to keep guys out of the paint (Martini, Hayes, Acuff, Derkack, even JMike would crowd too much and get beaten), lack of team defense connectivity to execute helping teammate and even help the helper when necessary.

BACATOLOGY 2/24: NCAA TOURNAMENT ANALYSIS

nope...if they won tonight at 15-14...the path was there..beat Purdue and Minny and 6-11 in Q1, 9-10 vs Q2...2 high level Q1 wins at Purdue, at Michigan, home to UCLA, Illinois, at Nebby...thats 5 wins vs teams in field and would match up close with 17-14/18-3 teams like Georgia, Baylor, Ohio State, Indiana, Texas

not a joke...not saying they would be in the field or the next 2 out but they would be legitly paired up against those teams where a case could be made
This is what I was arguing the last month 😃

Unfortunately , could have, should have , would have …..

OT: Gene Hackman and his wife found dead in their New Mexico home

Why was there no contact with children for over a week. You would think there would be check ins every few day
Cuz they are living their lives... One of his children said he was fit as a fiddle for his age...
doesnt seem he was feeble and decrepit fer his age from public information...
So to me children not contacting is a non issue

Five Most Brutal Losses of 2024-25 Season

The tale of this 10 losses ??

Gave up an average of 82.4 points per game with 9 of the 10 games giving up over 80….and only one giving up less than 70.

We continue to excessively talk about how we have offensive issues …and plenty of that is legit

That’s not the reality of this year

We have plenty and enough scoring to be a solid ncaa team

Our issue is we are a BAD BAD and even more BAD defensive basketball team

If we were even a mediocre defensive basketball team …we would have won at least 5 of those 10 games and be looking at not worse than a 7/8 seed……

Five Most Brutal Losses of 2024-25 Season

Tales of 10 losses,
1 pt 82-83
2 pts 77-79, 82-84
3 pts 63-66
4 pts 77-81
5 pts 90-95

6 losses by 17 pts, with 3 freshmen in rotation, 5 in total.
9 new players this year, only 3 1 yr at Rutgers players back.

7 pts 74-81
8 pts 72-80
9 pt 81-90
10 pts 74-84

other 5 losses 11, 12, 14, and 18 twice.
The chemistry and rotations just never came together for an extended part of the season.

Very reminiscent of the 2018-19 season, Geo and EO returning(JWill/JMike), with Doucoure/Doorson(Ogbole), 4 freshman(Tez, RHJ, Caleb, Myles-redshirt), a couple transfer Martini, Acuff, Hayes, Derkack(Kiss, Shaq Carter-JUCO)

7-3 OOC, started 1-6 B1G, 6-5 stretch, lost last 2.
7-3 OOC, started 1-4, B1G 6-6, lost Thurs, 2 left
