Rutgers University has seen a 262.55 (percent change in dollars) from 2015-2023 for total compensation for their football staff

I kind of take it all with a grain of salt.

The bottom line is that all these financial numbers are reported for agendas. And we all know that you can make numbers say whatever you want them to say for an agenda.

Those that hate the cost of football- need to just shut up and realize the positive football brought to the University. Rutgers is not a part of the B1G and that is huge for a University like us.
We have also just began to start putting some money in the right place to make this team successful. We have had 2 good years- and we can no longer say we are not paying coaches. So, now, Greg should have full accountability.

I do like keeping integrity, recruiting the right type of players who care about more than just football. Same with transfers in the Portal. I love trying to keep our good young men here and that most of them do stay. And to bring in kids with talent but also the right fit.

But- GS has to step up the game.
Thank you for your response. You wrote, "Rutgers is not a part of the B1G and that is huge for a University like us."

Could you explain this?

I agree Greg needs to step up his game. No more 7 win seasons. Need 8-12 wins to justify it all.

Recruiting

PSU board sent me over to ask....

Crackers said that when a couple of Penn State kids transfer over to your school, that we will all be crying like little babies. Is that still a go?

I imagine your board will be crying like babies whether they come or don't come :)

Seriously, I love when RUCrackers post, but i take it with a grain of salt.
Kids change their mind all the time. The could have been all set to come to RU but money or other factors can change a decision.

It does make for interesting discussions.

I don't see anything new either. CEO was yesterday morning, so it can't be that. Restructuring? Financing? CHIPs Act? Let's see what happens.

OT: World Cup 2026 thread, who's going??

MetLife, Philly, and Gillette near Boston, I'll be at 2026 World Cup games in these stadiums.

In 1994, I lucked out because my aunt with no kids was a Gillette marketing exec in Boston and had tix to all the Foxboro games. I got all the tix. Had people drive me to stadium. Best was Argentina 2 Nigeria 1. Weirdest was Bolivia South Korea 0-0. Flotilla of Bolivians on highway to game, never seen anything like that.

FIFA designated Stockton University, 115 miles from MetLife, as a base camp for 2026. Why isn't Rutgers in the mix to be a 2026 World Cup base camp?

On Wednesday, Richie was asked about Rutgers 2026 World Cup efforts. The university nailed it in 1994. Here is the post:

FIFA is selecting training base camp locations for the 2026 World Cup. I was surprised to see Stockton University was selected as a New York/New Jersey (MetLife) training base even though it is located 115 miles from the stadium.

FIFA says it will announce another batch of of World Cup training locations this year. Is the Rutgers athletics department working to get Rutgers selected as a FIFA sanctioned training base?

OT: Stock and Investment Talk

I don't follow the stock other than it being brought up here and I see they jus appointed a new CEO a day ago. It's down 40% and trading is halted with news pending. I said when it was in the mid singles it's a fairly defined loss if you step in and I suppose bankruptcy would be the thing to worry about. New CEO to come in and clean things up? I don't know the state of the company really to comment.

edit: it's trading again but I don't see any news come across...maybe it wasn't news pending and just the circuit breaker.

Carino Interview of Pike

65? The offense next year will be the equivalent of people driving 20 in 25 mph zones.

Let’s hope we’ll be pressing a lot and scoring will at least be a function of how successful we are at turning teams over. I have way more confidence in Steve correcting the D than I do anything on offense.

This...we have seen a rapid change in everything college hoops and Pike has been left behind...see CVS although the change in womens hoops was more gradual and she had a reputation as a wizard

In fairness to Pike, it’s impossible to push pace when your defense can’t stop anyone. We were “that bad” to a point where an insanely high percentage of our offensive possessions started with a side out affording time for the opponent to get their D set.

Our guards would’ve had a way higher chance of being successful at stopping the D using traps than running our horrible vanilla D but we didn’t go there. As said - I don’t think that style was good for Dylan.

Federal government cutting is a huge part of this equation going forward.

Do you think the Federal government should give RU $500,000,000 when they lose $50,000,000-$70,000,000 each year on professional sports?

Couldn't they be forced to be self sufficient and receive $450,000,000 from the federal government instead?

Indirectly (very indirectly) the federal government is paying $20,500,000 to college athletes.

Rutgers University has seen a 262.55 (percent change in dollars) from 2015-2023 for total compensation for their football staff

Yesrutgers01,

Thank you very much for posting the article. I appreciate you pointed to the source of your figures.

What could explain the gap between the $17.8 million salary budget implied by Sarge's piece and the audited actual figures for 2023 and 2024 disclosed in NCAA financial reports?

The actual amounts include benefits and non-salary cash compensation not included in the base salaries reported by Sarge. In addition, the 62 support staff figure undercounts actual support staff. Moreover, football coaches no longer coaching at Rutgers are getting paid.

Rutgers coaches and support staff receive benefits on top of their salaries. Plus, many coaches are paid bonuses. For instance, Greg earned $100,000 for making the Rate Bowl. For a basketball example, Pike pockets a $300,000 retention bonus on July 1, 2025.

Some assistant coaches, including Assistant Safeties Coach John Schiano and Assistant Quarterbacks Coach Matt Schiano don't show up on the support staff roster at all. These football coaches are football support staff nonetheless.

Former Rutgers defensive line coach Marquise Watson signed a deal last year paying him $100,000 plus benefits and bonuses even though, due to health reasons, he coached his last Rutgers football game in 2022 and currently coaches high school ball. No knock on Marquise - by all accounts he is a super person and coach. I wish Marquise the best in his recovery. Still, this is a Rutgers football cost.

The reality is the actual football staff spending is far higher than the amount arrived at by adding up figures in Sarge's report.
Numbers I provided in post #46 include : 1) actual amounts, not budgets, 2) audited and certified by university leaders, 3) calculated uniformly across schools, and 4) include all staffing costs for all football staffers, not just base salaries.

Thank you again for providing a link to your data's source.
