OT: Minor Snowfall for Most (except moderate N of 80 towards 84 w/some icing) Sat (2/15) pm, Followed by Heavy Rain for Everyone

how is it going to stick beyond grassy surfaces with lighter rates and temps forecasted at least for me a few notched over 32.
Did you read my post right above yours? It's likely only going to accumulate on grass/colder surfaces, especially during daylight, south of 78, where temps are likely going to be 33-34F. Unless a couple of the snowier/colder models are correct, which have temps of 31-32F for much of the time until 7-8 pm. As a snow lover, I don't really care if it doesn't accumulate on paved surfaces - grass is fine for me as I just like seeing snow.

Rotation going forward - play for next year

Said the same thing last year around this time.

If the season is over then need to play for next year.

Dylan, Davis, Ace, Grant Lathan

Dortch and Derkack off the bench
Try and get a sense if JWill is returning or not.

Martini, Acuff and Hayes are gone next year.
They can fill in for foul trouble.

Is this a winning strategy for this year?
Not even close.
But the staff is responsible for the program year over year - not just this year's team.
At some point you have to rip the bandaid off and face the reality.
Do you really want JWill to return?

More of a reason for this season

Darkcheck, for me it's 55/45. First of all, Pikiell failed to bring in B1G type players that are tough as nails and willing to defend as well as score. With that stated, however, it's Pikiell and his coaching staff that have failed the players and us, the fans. Pikiell is absolutely clueless on how to run an offense. He relies on Brandon Knight, whose offense, IMO, is no offense at all. A few high ball screens and not real cutting and guys just standing on the perimeter is NOT an offense.

One would think after 32 years of coaching, Pikiell would have learned something, anything about how to run an offense. As a player, coach, and student of the game, I've seen better offenses run at the high school level. What we have here is an abomination.

I realize Pikiell will definitely be around next year and possibly the year after. But his failure this season, and I mean FAILURE, has crushed my spirit.
Oh, he sure as hell knows offense. It’s been his life. You think hs hack coaches know the game better than Pike and Knight ? Absurd. Roster dictates system. Sure, even middle school teams run various sets because lack of talent forces that. He has players do what they are best at. Look at our team. Do you want Sommerville, Derkack, Grant or Davis in a 5 player motion LOL ? That would be an abomination.

Pony up or Shut Up

Honestly I think most people ITT are correct.

@rutgersal is right to call out our fanbase for having Alligator Arms

Our fanbase is right to call him foolish for wanting to invest in a coach who fumbled absolute gold.

However Pike is fvcked because if he does not have much NIL to play with this off-season its going to be another .500 season and more crying next off-season, which is why I think he is fired in 14 months.

The problem is the next coach who comes is going to ask about NIL...then what will the excuses be from people? Oh I know, you're not a whale, there are better causes, I will wait to see results, the dog ate my homework, etc.

Rutgers fans mostly get what they pay for and thats why we have sucked in all sports forever. Not complicated. I personally do what I can, maybe I will be a whale one day, thats my personal goal.

Pony up or Shut Up

None of this is meant to absolve Pike, who ultimately owns this subpar season. Criticism like this is fair and warranted. I couldn’t imagine a season this bad.

But at the same time, we’ve got to give him the resources to succeed, and I don’t think we did that this season.
Al, I think you're right. But he really blew it this year. I have been a Pikiell supporter since he got here. But this abomination of a season has crushed my spirit. I continue to give to both BB and FB but my patience has run really thin.

Rotation going forward - play for next year

We played our best basketball when Ace and Dylan were both on the bench last night.

Now I’m sure that’s a total outlier but Ace and Dylan probably played some of their worst basketball last night.
those two played about 30 minutes last night. I don’t know how long both were on the bench at the same time, but I assume it’s a pretty small sample size. People continue to want to rag on Dylan and Ace. But again, we came into this season completely failing to grab a portal 5 and 4 that can compete at this level. It all trickles down from there. I’m sure DH and Ace (along with the rest of the team) are frustrated a bit because of the losing this year. They know they are shorthanded and it’s not going to get better. After 20+ games, it’s up to coach to keep it together

March 2022 Crystal Ball

I get what you're saying but the fact is, you can get there with RU as seen by those 2 appearances that feel like so long ago. It's the coaches that can't get us there. The players aren't exactly innocent either but the coaches get paid to figure it out. It's clear that big changes are needed. There's no reason RU can't be a consistent winner with the right leadership.
Even if Pike’s manages figure out the retention element of making his previous model work in the transfer portal era (a la Iowa, Northwestern, Michigan State, Purdue), the clock has been effectively been set back to 2017.

We have 2.5 guys in the program (still not sold on JMike, plus, you know, he’s short haha), that can become viable B10 players. It’s Year 9 or whatever and we’re years away again. Does anyone have the patience for that?

Potential MBB coach replacement

Pike is here atleast a few more years. And he's not a bad coach. He just hasn't figured out how to operate in this portal/transfer era. But at somepoint he will. Hes gonna be the coach here a long time
IMO, he'll ONLY be here for a long time if he can bring in an associate head coach who can actually implement a REAL offense like the one McCaffery runs at Iowa or the one Hurley runs at UCONN. He can no longer move forward with the status quo because he is clueless when it comes to running an offense.

Pike lost me last night.

Take Dylan and Ace out of the game and watch how much crisper our offense is. You can have all the plays and sets in the world, but if you aren't running them with a purpose it does nothing for you.

Ace and Dylan don't make hard cuts and they don't use screens properly. They aren't alone. Players need to cut as if they are going to get the ball. Screens need to be set and used properly to get easy baskets..

We also need to attack the offensive glass like the game is tied with a minute left. We had exactly 3 individual offensive rebounds against a team that is a terrible defensive rebounding team.

We can blame Pike, but at some point players need to be blamed. At sone point we as fans need to buy in to the fact that Ace and Dylan own the stink of the season. The game is more than scoring points.
1 - JMike
2 - Harper
3- Bailey
4 - Grant
5 - Summerville

The rest of the way with limited substitutions. Play 8 max and JWill not at all.

Pony up or Shut Up

Pikiell needs to learn how to have an offense, which means he needs to let Brandon Knight go and bring in a serious offensive mind who can replicate McCaffery's motion offense.

As for the portal, I've been ponying up since day one, but that's worn thin, plus it's up to Pikiell and the new AD, whenever he gets here, to raise expectations for once and do something positive. I would like to see Pikiell actually bring in players that belong in the B1G. What he did this season is an abomination.
None of this is meant to absolve Pike, who ultimately owns this subpar season. Criticism like this is fair and warranted. I couldn’t imagine a season this bad.

But at the same time, we’ve got to give him the resources to succeed, and I don’t think we did that this season.
