Sustain and retain …Pike’s and Rutgers basketball way forward to rebuilding the program

Senior: Derkack, Ogbole
Junior: Davis
Soph: Sommerville, Grant, Dortch
Frosh: Ware, Mark, Powers, Nwuli

Grab 2 guys from the portal.

Williams can grad transfer somewhere.

Even with this, we'd be light on upperclassmen
its a pretty frigtening lineup....we need 2 big time portal player

Sustain and retain …Pike’s and Rutgers basketball way forward to rebuilding the program

Outside of Grant who is better?
its not a question of better, its a question of fit, he can do alot things right and be a high volume scorer but does he fit with Pikiell will want to do. I dont think a shoot first undersized big is a plus

did people enjoy his step back 3 vs Oregon.

also I suspect he will demand $$$ upgrade, that is the issue, would the money be better off being put elsewhere

"Are More New Jersey Colleges Doomed to Collapse?"

There will always be kids who would not thrive at a big school and who don't have the credentials to get into an Ivy or other elite school. So some small schools will survive. From what I know, virtually no student at those schools (except international students) pays sticker price. Still a lot of those schools are going to close, especially the ones that are lesser-known or don't have alums with *very* deep pockets.. There are a lot of fixed costs in running a college, so maybe the small colleges that stay open won't be as small as they are now. That will still leave a niche in a world of mega state universities.

There are small public schools too, though. Certainly I think TCNJ or SUNY Geneseo is considered as prestigious as some. Maybe not Bucknell but it is pretty darn close IMO.

This is 100% correct and exactly how college atheltics has worked for decades (see the facility arms race years and our current need for a "fieldhouse").

This is also why if someone said "the entire college athletics system needs to be trashed and started from scratch" I wouldn't really argue.

An easy argument could be made sports shouldn't be about "fans with the most money to spend dictate who is successful or not".
You can make that argument but ultimately it hasn’t been that way for awhile

OT: 1st Saturday Night Live Tonight at 11:30 pm

The very first episode of NBC's Saturday Night (the Live part came later in time) is airing at 11:30 pm tonight, February 15. George Carlin was the host and the first musical guests were Billy Preston and Janis Ian. Air date: October 11, 1975.

Tonight from 8p-11p SNL will do a special on all the music that has been on since the start.

From faint memory I watched the first show I was not laughing. However, that changed within a month and a half. At Rutgers, the Rusty Screw Pub cleared out at 11:30 pm on Saturday nights when students went to the closest TV set to catch the show... it was that popular.

Sunday there will be a three hour 50th anniversary special broadcast starting at 8pm.
Watched all three. Great stuff. Started watching SNL that first night in 1975 and have watched most of them (at least through weekend update, lol) since then. Always a hit or miss show, but more than enough funny bits to keep me watching.

Baraka Issues Statement on Rutgers Preemptively Pulling DEI Programming, Calls for Support

From DEI EO

"Section 1. Purpose and Policy. The Biden Administration forced illegal and immoral discrimination programs, going by the name “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI), into virtually all aspects of the Federal Government, in areas ranging from airline safety to the military."

DEI is banned because its openly prejudicial - MLK in reverse.
"Content of character" and all that is out - white people, males go to the back of the bus even if they have the best skills.
Hiring by preferred color, sex, disorders = DEI
That violates civil rights and labor laws like crazy - and RU could lose gov funding.

From OP article:

"Rutgers has not faced pressure from state legislators to dismantle DEI. But the cancellation demonstrates the leverage and power the federal government can hold over colleges and universities by threatening to pull funding from programs that don’t comply with the president’s demands."

That doesn't address exec orders not being laws. These are being adjudicated at the moment and it's going poorly for people claiming they are.

Aside from that, claiming a conference is illegal because it addresses the topic of discrimination or HBCUs defies logic, and the 1A.

OT: Passing of loyal RU fan

I just found out today that fandiego, also known as Felonious Monk, passed away on Feb 12. He was a Highland Park High and RU grad. He was 70 and battling cancer. He and I became really good friends off the board, although I never met him in person. He had a wicked sense of humor and loved RU sports. Sad day.
Damn shame. Met Joel/fandiego several times, including bowl games and at the UNC game in 2006. I was there with 8 family members (sister and her family lived in Charlotte for many years, so my wife, son and I met them there for the game) and was walking into the stadium when I hear, "hey RU numbers!!" and it was fandiego. My family was like, what? Took a little explaining, lol. He also knew my wife's older sister, who is about his age, as they all grew up in HP. Also sat with his group at the Insight Bowl. Funny, quirky, nice guy.

Please stop this finger pointing at Pat Hobbs, Hobbs was an employee of RU and the coaches are hired to work at RU.....it is NOT the schools employees responsibility to ensure RU is funded properly, it is up to you, myself and everyone that reads this board and beyond.

OT: Stock and Investment Talk

With how involved you are in the market and the amount of research that you do, you should never invest in ETFs. You should be 100% or close to it in individual stocks. I would suggest a core portfolio of 10-20 stocks that make up 80% of your net investment and another 10-30 minor holdings.
Unless it’s your full time job, no one is that involved. Reading other people’s research is not involved.
