OT: Stock and Investment Talk

With how involved you are in the market and the amount of research that you do, you should never invest in ETFs. You should be 100% or close to it in individual stocks. I would suggest a core portfolio of 10-20 stocks that make up 80% of your net investment and another 10-30 minor holdings.

The bolded is a pretty broad statement.... can't say i agree with that at all. Diversification is best, my opinion is majority in an etf/fund like VOO or VTI, with some individual stocks on the side to try and capture additional growth. To each their own

Sustain and retain …Pike’s and Rutgers basketball way forward to rebuilding the program

He’s really more of a power forward than a Center, definitely does not fit the mold of a defensive rebounding big. I like his offensive game, not trashing him, just saying that as a Center for Pike he’s not a great fit. Go get a true Center, then move Lathan to Power forward and now we’re talking.
Rebounding is a skill that can be taught (unless you are Eddie Jordan, I guess). LS is frequently out of position on defense, which can improve with film study and reps.

He needs to improve his body control, positioning, passing, and decision making.... which are more likely to improve with time than things like FT% and offensive touch around the basket (which he already has).

Lathan doesn’t fit Pike’s system of a defensive rebounding big. Hes only a freshman, and I hope he comes back, but I wouldn’t throw a ton of money at him.

Please stop this finger pointing at Pat Hobbs, Hobbs was an employee of RU and the coaches are hired to work at RU.....it is NOT the schools employees responsibility to ensure RU is funded properly, it is up to you, myself and everyone that reads this board and beyond.

If you stop listening to the old alumni who are on Twitter kissing the feet of UConn, and wasting time discussing Ivy League nonsense, you would be much better off. Stop lying to yourself and ignoring the problems start and end with football and it's lack of productivity, lack of delivering wins and ultimately, lack of branding and marketing.

We have no idea what's going on with football, but it's suddenly chic to discuss the only thing relevant about RU sports which is RU mens hoops......There is a larger problem being ignored by hiring Robb Smith for a 3rd time as defensive coordinator.....but because people are actually numb and don't actually appear to be able to find time to tweet about the actual engine in football, we are stuck in neutral trying to figure out what exactly?? Why we don't have funds for hoops players??

My question to you and others....if a coach like Rick Pitino, Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Jim Harbaugh or any big time coach came to RU, do you think that coach would say "it's on me, to coach up B-minus to C+ players??.
Pike should say what is truthfully obvious and say, "the fanbase tweets a lot and posts great game recaps, but offers no relevant information or discussion on what they're doing to fix it......Let's look at the donation amounts for NIL to get my staff some players, compared to the schools I'm up against like Ohio State and Oregon etc"......

The SEC didn't suddenly decide basketball was important, they were a distant 4th or 5th less than 7 or so years ago in conference discussion about hoops. What DID happen they have their priorities straight and everything else follows from football........ It doesn't mean Pike doesn't have things to clean up, but tweets about Pat Hobbs and Coquese Washington losing games, arent really relevant to the big picture and certainly isn't on the TV revenue sharing discussion going on about the B1G and SEC.
I’m glad somebody said it. The SEC didn’t decide basketball was suddenly important

Those schools and athletic departments generate SO MUCH money from football that they have an obligation now to be competitive in basketball because they fiscally can be

I agree with everyone the coaches and admins need to take some responsibility for the product on the field.

But if the “money was there” why didn’t we spend the money. We just decided we shouldn’t spend money that was allegedly available? Sounds fishy to me

RU Record With Bailey and Harper As Best Players on the Floor - Or Not

So ... looked at every game:

1) RU is 5-0 when Harper and Bailey are the 2 best players on the court in any given game.

2) RU is 12-5 when 1 or both of Bailey and Harper are the best (or tied for the best) player on the floor.

3) RU is 0-9 when neither player is the best player on the floor for RU.

This is not surprising, unfortunately, the way the team is constructed: From even before the season started, given how reliant RU was on the 2 freshman versus opposing teams heavy reliance on bigger stars from the transfer portal, it was clear RU needed to have 1 or both of Harper and Bailey be the best player on the floor to win AT ALL. And needed them to consistently, 1 or the other, play as All Big Ten players in any single game to win and have a chance at the NCAA.

The details:

Harper the Best Player in a Game: 7 times, plus 1 maybe
... Wagner, St. Pete's, Kennesaw St., Notre Dame (by a mile), Alabama (by a mile), Penn St (1st game), Illinois ... the maybe is vs Monmouth. Bashir had 38 points to Harper's 20 - but Bashir had zero rebounds, zero assists, zero steals, zero blocked shots (he was 10-17 3-pointers). Harper had 20 pts, 5 r, 6a and 2 blocked shots.

Harper's performances have been a bit front-loaded. In the 13 games (half the season so far) after he got sick after the Columbia game, and then hurt his ankle in the 2nd PSU game, he has been the best player in a game just once, vs Illinois. In the 1st 13 games he was the best player on the court 6 times, plus 1 maybe.

RU was 5-2 or 6-2 when he was the best player on the floor (only lost to Alabama).

Bailey the Best Player in a Game: 8 times, plus 1 maybe ... Merrimack, Seton Hall, Columbia, Indiana (by a mile), UCLA, Nebraska, PSU (2nd game), Northwestern (by a mile), .. the maybe: Texas A&M ... Wade was great, with 24 points 5 assists, 0 rebounds on 7-14 FG, but Bailey was also great, with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 10-20 FG - both were 2-8 from 3-point range.

Bailey's best games are concentrated during the Big 10 schedule (5 of his 8+maybe) ... though he has been much more wildly inconsistent than Harper.

RU was 6-2 (or 6-3) when Bailey was the best player on the floor.

Both Bailey and Harper were the Two Best Players (overlap from the 2 categories above): 5 times ... Penn St (1st game), Seton Hall, Columbia, UCLA, Nebraska.

Note:

a) Derkack was actually the best player on the court in the Michigan St game, followed by J. Richardson and Carr of MSU.

b) RU has had 8 1/2 or 9 games out of 26 when either Harper or Bailey have been OUT of the game entirely, or severely limited by illness or injury: Wagner, St. Peters, Indiana, Wisconsin, Purdue, 1/2 of the 2nd PSU game, Michigan St, Northwestern, Maryland. Of those, 7 are Big 10 games - 7 of RU's 15 Big 10 games. Just saying ...

BACATOLOGY 2/17: 1st 2025 NCAA Tournament Analysis

Kansas State now falls to 13-13 going 0-2 on the Utah road trip as they fell to the Utes last night. Margin of error is gone. They will absolutely need to run off their last 5...its not impossible...ASU/Col at home but can they win at both UCF/Cincy to get up an enormous home finale vs Iowa State

Meanwhile Utah all of a sudden out there in the distance at 15-11, picked up their 4th Q2 win and now 5-11 in Q1/2. Certainly a longshot. Can they win 4 of 5 down the stretch?

Baylor falls to Arizona, no shame there but they are now down to 15-10. Its not that tough of a 4 game stretch coming up but 3 of them are on the road and potential landmines

NIL, what's the best course of action to remedy this?

Ohio State, national football champion, media rights are on page 6.

Please name schools receiving near $100m in media revenue.

Did you miss my prior post?
I'll post it again where I edited my premise to remove the restriction to media revenue and make the same point using all AD revenue (which makes the ADs look even worse).

Thanks for making my argument stronger!
