“I Got Rutgers Into The Big 10…. 90 Days Later They Fired Me.”

So? I'm sure that the board has to approve such a hiring too. But they aren't the ones that sought out the coach and told the president and the board that he was the man for the job. Is it that you wanted Barchi fired also? Sometimes that happens, but many times it doesn't. But the guy who got him was Pernetti. It's befuddling to me that anyone can believe that the blowback couldn't or wouldn't take him out.
Where do you get any of that from what I am saying? I said earlier I am not defending Tim. He had oversight of coach and as others have said his offices were in that building. So Tim knew of directly or heard rumors of alleged impropriety. Tim owns both the hiring and firing of Rice. But Barchi delaying the firing process makes him culpable as well. As you say the blowback took him out. Media ate the delay up and claimed it was a cover up. It was Rutgers Rutgersing once again. Play like the big boys. Either say it’s nothing and move on or admit Rice was a problem and fire him immediately without delay.

Also board approval is a formality in the hiring process and doubt they would be involved in firing. But board was involved in this case because it blew up because Barchi delayed the process.

We're 3-1 in the B1G with a healthy Harper/Bailey (and 2-0 with a healthy Harper/Bailey and Grant playing). Just sayin'. Make that 7-5/6-4.

and if the temperature was 30 degrees instead of 40 and the front came across central jersey vs. down south we'd have gotten 8 inches of snow instead of nothing.

no reason to stop rooting. let's win all the rest but not very likely. In the end it's the losses to Kennesaw St and Princeton WITH healthy Ace and Dylan that will doom the chance. Same with the early season loss to a struggling OSU with them both on board.

The recent success has as much or more to do with the development of the bench as the play of both studs. Not exactly like Ace has killed it the last two. Dylan certainly has. But it is the bench scoring.

Basketball GM Chops

Will be interesting to see how RU attacks this one. Many different profiles in these roles across the landscape. Dunleavy at Nova comes from the coaching ranks, Baker at Duke with a Nike background, Kline at Cuse with recruiting and some NBA, Carolina went the ex agent route. Will be interesting to see what type of profile emerges as the most successful. Regardless - there are many connected to RU with all of those type of backgrounds. At the end of the day - RU will get what they pay for as the pool of talent for this role will be highly coveted as most high majors add this role and a supporting staff over the next 90-120 days. Need to invest the right way here.
The question is who is making this decision Pisarro?Pikell?
Our whole athletic department is a mess so who knows?

Very well aware of how things work at large organizations. I had no problem hiring and firing a certain level of candidate and employee. When it came to certain positions I would have to go to c suite level of oversight (1-2 levels above me). I would think Head basketball coach would need at least a signature and more than likely direct interaction from Barchi.

Can you win in this era with 5 star freshman leading the way...and Pitino thoughts

First, I think this era is different with the portal in meaningful, substantial ways for success. Calipari showed in a different era that star freshman could get it done.

But now, when teams can be constructed based on skill and team needs...and not have to hope the recruits develop, it's not the same paradigm. It's either way harder or not possible. And of course this is the era when we get 2 5 star recruits. These facst should put this season in a little more perspective.

There was one school that with Ace and Dylan it was final 4 time. Another that the tournament was a given. A smaller crowd thought it would be risky relying on freshman to lead as those teams take time to develop and many times not one year only. With freshamn teams you fear back door cuts, lost D assignments, streaky execution etc. And what have we seen, just that.

Does it totally excuse Pike? No, but it certainly creates some perspective. Should he have gotten a rim protector at all costs--in retrospect yes. But is the up and down play to be expected starting 4 freshamn-absolutely. Can you imagine if we were in another era and the freshman were all coming back? With some D understanding and physically increased strength. In true RU fashion, while it's never bad to get 5 satr players, we got them at the leaset effective time. If the last few games are harbingers of the next, then perhaps things are starting to mold into a little form. Dont forget EO went out too when he was starting to look like a player. If he could bang and give 3-4 fouls a night things may get interesting.

Thus, when one sees Pitino's comments that you can't win big with freshman, it should open some eyes. He said as much after the pre season game. And by all accounts, he is not wrong. If this season could stretch out alittle more, perhaps we can hope he can be less right.
Duke is starting 3 freshmen and will be a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament.
