Corey Hetherman to Miami as DC

The LB play fell way off from last year and contributed a lot to the poor defensive showing in addition to injuries. The loss of Deon Jennings who was an excellent LB for RU was a major factor. He never was out of position and a sure tackler in space. Mo Toure’s injury was a big blow. The younger LBs this year seemed to be in over their heads at times. Out of position and in wrong gaps. Coverage of RBs out of the backfield was poor. I’m sure Heatherman’s absence played a role.

Not sure what you're saying here. Joe H called the D here the last 2 years. One year he had a healthy and talented team. Last year we were talented but hurt all year. Do you think Joe changed his style because the Lber coach left or because our most talented guys either graduated, were out for the year or played at 70% plus missed some games?

You may have inside info I do not but Corey H was an up and coming coach for us. Loved him and would love having him back but Joe H and Schiano were here both years. In the pecking order Corey was #3 but I thought they all coached like their hair was on fire which I loved. I think Schiano is huge on accountability. That should not have changed unless NIL had a hand in it.
Also not sure what Doug was saying about the play of Iggy dropping under JH as Cory coached Line backers & JH took over the Line Backers when Cory left but Iggy was a safety not a line backer. I also think Iggy was always overhyped as he took bad angles & missed tackles his whole career

I'll try to clean this up. Hetherman may not have called the plays, but his presence made even coaches accountable for how they approached each game or play. Some people draw their energy and focus from others, and when that person is gone, the dynamics change. No one may admit it, but the team's synergy changed when Hetherman left. It seemed the defense was looking for someone to rally them into a mindset where they reached the maximum level. There were guys last year who played better than anyone expected. Many of the same players didn't come close to playing well this year. Harasymiak was still here, but the players didn't respond to him. There is a reason why certain coaches are head and shoulders above their peers because they can get more from players and coaches than a typical player or coach.

The University of Miami DC job is a plum job, which turns DCs into head coaches, if they succeed. Manny Diaz, Randy Shannon, and Greg Schiano are a few of the DCs who later became head coaches. Today they are willing to pay top dollar for kids and are going to give Hetherman all the resources he needs to succeed. I sense he will be a head coach in 3-5 years. Leaving Minnesota for Miami is a no brainer.

Here's your #1 NBA 2025 draft pick

The intensity and sophistication of NBA defense is exponentially higher than anything any of these players are seeing at the college level.
Nah…explain how Sloth Jokic is unstoppable. Intensity ratchets up in the playoffs and overall athleticism is higher but on a nightly basis games are merely offense exhibitions where players are most interested in their ppg for their next contract negotiations.

What I don't understand about this narrative is who or what did pike give up by bringing these 2 players in? If anything it was a huge risk not bringing in better talent to surround them with. Recruits haven't panned out over the last couple of years. I like the class they have signed up for next year though. I just don't understand how bringing in Dylan and Ace can be seen as a negative for Rutgers.
I'd say he gave up his culture. You can really have your culture set on a team run by freshman.

How lucky is Kyle Flood?

There is a shit ton of revisionist history and memory holing in this thread
I mean - if one were to dig up the strings following Flood’s promotion to OC in name or even right after he was named HC, how many posts do you there were claiming he was a “bad” OL position coach? One has to isolate 2010 and put the blame on him for the disaster that one season became to make that case. It’s one thing to argue his accomplishments were overrated. Quite another to classify him as bad.
RU in 2010 had the worst college football season I ever saw.
The loses, the sacks, the EL tragedy, losing Savage etc people know about.
But people forget RU began the 2010 season in national news for weeks after RU student jumped off GW Bridge.
From Sept on, 2010 was a continuous tsunami of wreckage.
GW was in hospital every night, players like Lefeged had hard time playing again that season.
I thought GS was exhausted by 2010 and wasn't surprised he went to NFL
It was a disaster season but most of that wasn’t Flood’s fault specifically. Certainly not to the point where it makes any logical sense to make that a focal point in defining his career as an OL position coach. At least not if you intend any attempt at being objective.

A Healthy Dylan Will Spark A Run

You add his production when healthy and this is a different team with different results. Dylan is aware of the hoopla regarding Flagg’s 42 point game, and will take it as a challenge. He will put this team on his back. Because of this I believe we will go on a winning run with him producing at pre-flu levels. F*ck all the negativity. Let’s get some wins with Dylan leading the way.
That requires game long stamina.

Stop the Whining and Look on the Bright Side...

We coulda beat Bama and A&M on a neutral court.

I am not giving up on the team. The season is already below expectations but I still think they can make some noise and surprise us.

That said.. they have an internal struggle to get past. You think we're disappointed? How do you think the players feel? They have to get over that. They have to find a way.

Trite expression time: Tough times don't last. Tough people do.
Agree somewhat. I'm not giving up completely until I see the team with a fully healthy Harper, an improving Bailey, and what I think can be improved supporting cast, if Acuff and Grant are a much bigger part of it and can contribute decently like the last 2 games. The Columbia game with just Harper/Bailey hitting on all cylinders shows we're capable of being much better and I like to think we can also do that against B1G teams with those two plus an improved supporting cast. I'm not "confident" that we start playing much better and go on some nice run of games, but I don't think it's a pipe dream either.
