The cylinder rule punishes a team for doing something good , playing defense and pressuring a ball handler who decides to pick up his dribble. I think I have seen it called 1 time this year against Houston and St. John’s and I have watched about 10-14 of their games this year. The cylinder Rule could have been called 5-10 times on each game but then the team’s trademark defense would suffer. So it is almost never called. So should they remove 3 second and carry all together?
That was my point.
Just because these rules are not called (when they likely should) doesn't justify removing it from the rule book altogether
In my opinion.
Fir examole : personally, I'd be fine getting rid of 3 seconds. But that's because I think rules restricting "strategy" need to be minimized.
Refs could call every single 3 second violation correctly.
I'd still be in favor of getting rid of it.
The 3 point rule should be called because you are giving the offensive team an unnecessary advantage. Edey last year camped in there 5-6 sevconds all the time and it was an unnecessary advantage to Purdue. I am shocked that call had been removed from the game the last 5/10 years.
