OT: Winter Storm Thursday 2/20: Very Likely Somewhere Between A Non-Event and a Minor Event (oof)

Dan Zarrow

Forecast models have persistently put a storm system over New Jersey in the Wednesday-Thursday time frame. The resounding consensus shows a period of solid rain there — possibly totaling an inch or two. Nothing wintry.
Yep, every model is showing at least 1/2" of rain with two of the four major global models showing 1-2" of rain in the 3/6 timeframe. We need the rain still.

There's an AI model predicting a big storm in that time frame saw a FB post that this was the AI weather prediction??

That's the ECMWF (Euro) AIFS model, which is the AI version of the Euro model and which has performed quite well in its first year, although it's far from infallible, like all of the other models (but it was the best model for the 2/20 storm that went to our south). There have been an occasional run or two of that and other models showing snow in the 3/8-3/9 timeframe, indicating some potential, but most runs are not showing that, so right now it's just a low probability event.

OT: Things in sports that need to disappear

The US banned TV advertisements for cigarettes and should also do it for sports gambling. If you smoke you're ruining your own life while sports gambling addiction has a wider ruinous effect.
Agreed. While I support having the freedom to gamble if one chooses to, there is more of a social detriment to those commercials than meets the eye. It's bad enough to have to listen to the reads of the ads, maybe it's possible to limit the scope of how often this is in your face.

Ugh! Next 2 games on Peacock

It's great. We don't have to worry about an earlier game going to OT and jumping around to another channel.

Zero concern about the game actually starting on time and being broadcast as expected.
This is the good thing about Peacock.

They don’t have a good option to start it mid game and catch up to live. I tried multiple times and it always freezes as you try to skip commercials. Not sure if this is intentional or just a crappy platform
This is the bad thing about Peacock.

OT: Mount Rushmore of NJ HS Basketball Players

NJ.com did an article on this in 2017, ranking the top 50 all time NJ high school hoops players: https://www.nj.com/sports/2017/06/ranking_new_jerseys_50_greatest_basketball_players.html

But, that is a stupid list, since it includes not only players who played NJ high school hoops, but also players who were merely born in NJ, even if they moved out of State quickly.

Here is another list - but only ranked on their NBA accomplishments, not performance in high school - though at least these players PLAYED high school basketball in NJ: https://ainsworthsports.com/basketball_player_rankings_by_high_school_nj.htm

Here is a list of NJ high school basketball players who were selected to the McDonald's All American game: https://www.app.com/story/sports/20...igh-school-basketball-players-nj/73201695007/

List of the 25 greatest high school hoops players ever (plus an honorable mention list): https://www.usatodayhss.com/story/s...abbar-jason-kidd-wilt-chamberlin/76247345007/ ... NONE of the top 25 were from NJ, FYI - Though Dujuan Wagner made the honorable mention list.

For what it is worth, there have been 3 players in NJ history to score over 3000 career points in NJ high school hoops: Dujuan Wagner, John Somogyi and ... Paul Gause.

I would think Tripucka is in the top 10 ... Wagner ... Somogyi ... who else? I have no idea.

Knox father arrested at state tourney match

I disagree as recently the supreme court has ruled that while students have due process rights that apply to the overall educational experience, it doesn't however extend to individual parts of the educational process such participating in athletic and extracurricular activities. Unless NJSIAA rules state that he is entitled to due process the courts have ruled that there is no free-standing property interest in participating. Just imagine if a school had to provide due process for all discipline items? They would have to have a hearing for something as simple as detention.

Exactly! Otherwise all disputes in an extracurricular activity could warrant a due process hearing.

@SCNJ

You could demand due process around the unconstitutionality of a parochial participating in your local district tounrament.

Rutgers wrestling: Four thoughts ahead of Big Ten Championships, NCAA Championships

Having goals are great, you misunderstand.. I was just pointing out an observation how most of our guys have results driven goals.. become x but this could be putting unnecessary pressure on themselves, the same pressure you said Poz was getting unfairly due to a lucky year. I was just pointing out process driven goals seem to work better.. kinda like a fixed mindset vs growth mindset..
It's all great if the person works toward it with actions that match; otherwise, it's delusional or insincere at a minimum. SCNJ never gets it; he's a cheerleader. "but there’s nothing wrong with him doing whatever he can to get there" No there isn't, but he's not, and that's the issue.

Football Parking Question

I know everyone is waiting to hear what happened -

Although we could have simply gotten the (2) different lot passes on our current account (with payment of 1250 representing 750 blue and 500 purple), since we have essentially morphed into a North Jersey/South Jersey group we just created a new account, split the tickets 3/3, and each group can now get whatever parking they want.

My son enrolled at RU last fall. I wanted to be closer to the stadium and was willing to pay, at least for the next few years. Others disagreed.

Customer service at the ticket office was very good.

Did they split the priority points in half?
