RAPID REACTION — Michigan State

The game was a bundle of problems that were created by the staff back in November. There was never a clear path or pattern for how players would be utilized.....it's very random and results driven at times and others it's hit or miss.

Are Lathan Sommerville and Dylan Grant world-beaters?? Not at all, but they're trying and learning as freshman and Lathan gets a basket, gets taken out for Martini....Grant hits a 3, goes to the bench less than a minute later.

There's no way for the players to know when or what's coming and then a lineup that works, gets left on the floor, until they're burned out and tired.

The Dylan injury opened the door for Derkack, but even with the 3s early, the one in the 2H with a running start from the left side, was a shot you just can't take in transition. But I have to give the kid a ton of credit, he battled and made plays.

If Pike can settle on a rotation that keeps Grant and Sommerville on the floor for more than 20 minutes a game and we stop putting JMike on the court, where he just doesn't make any shots, there's a winning streak on this roster somewhere. Maybe it starts at NW, but it has to revolve around getting these freshman major minutes....at least they're providing something.
Does two wins constitute a streak? This team has shown nothing this year to indicate they can play consistent, winning basketball and win 3 or 4 Big 10 games in a row.

Martini

In a thread about Martini, who played better in the last 2 or 3 games, there are comments about fans wanting to run plays for an even less reliable player, just because PJ Hayes can shoot 3s??

How many plays did we have to run for Martini today?? Because the same dumb comments about running plays for Hayes, were the same comments in threads earlier this year about running plays or sets for Martini.

Did we run any plays today for Martini??? NO

Did Martini have wide open looks each and every time, without having to run or design a play for him?? YES

It is actually up to the players to perform, Pike and the staff can't run out on the court and shoot the ball for Martini. He had 5 clean looks today and went 0-5.....he had 5 clean looks against Nebraska and went 4-5.

That's the reality of basketball folks.....ideally, Martini can be counted on hitting a 3, for every 3 clean looks he gets....and ideally he hits 2 out of 5 most nights.

Everything for certain fans has to be handed to the players on a silver platter by the coaches, with no pressure and no defenders nearby, otherwise the coaches are terrible and don't run an offense. Players make plays, not coaches.

Michigan State has better players and shooters.....when they got open looks, they converted more......RU simply needs better players to take and make open 3s AND have that player do something else on the court in a positive manner. Martini worked very hard on his post defense, he just didn't get rewarded for his defense, with a couple of baskets dropping for him.

Sit Dylan

Definitely justified to question his toughness. Not only that but on the bench just sits there quietly. He doesn’t even seem engaged with the game. It definitely appears he dgaf. Who knows what really is going on.
He could barely move and obviously the ankle stiffened up. You are a clueless poster. He was fycking hurt and tried to give it a go and made key basket to cut it to 3 at the half but sat halftime ankle got worse . For anyone who has actually played and twisted their ankle , it is damn miserable.
Zap questioning playing Dylan when he at 10% gives you more than Acuff and JMike combined and most nights Jeremiah. Pike was between a rock and a hard place. It was shocking at MSG when he wasn’t introduced with the starting lineup.
