This +1000000. That '21 tournament team was the best team of the recent and Pikiell era. Losing that many impactful and important bodies began a terrible trend for this program.

Losing Cam made me sad.

Losing Paul was a shocker. Steve's original "wow" recruit. Jersey. Loved Rutgers, etc.

You should include the rest of the castaways from 2023-2024 beyond Cliff: Mag, Simpson, Griffiths, Woolfolk. Really shows how poor Steve is at this.

If Schiano gets praise for important retention, Steve gets an F for his roster retention.

OT: Brian Schottenheimer Dallas Cowboys next HC

I hope Jerry lives for 20 more years and continues to screw up his franchise with his narcissistic insanity

What would he even better is the sports media (the same one that tries to make bronny James a story that isn’t one) starts to ignore “America’s team” after realizing the title doesn’t fit, unless America stands for overhyped, over-publicized, losing, hollow, dysfunctional, tyrannical, laughable, and vapid

And realizes there are whole new group of “America’s teams” to cover instead

Team Beats Players. . . .and Thoughts of Jay Wright

Until some insider leaks NIL info about Rutgers we will only be able to speculate. The most interesting things I've seen posted though are:

- Ace/Dylan got a lot of NIL money. I've seen people on here say as much as 1.6 to 1.8 million. Most of it coming from an outside source.

- Acuff got the most of all the transfers.

- Lathan handcuffed Pike late in the process and threatened to leave if he got a significant backup center. This is all after we dabbled with getting an established center but didn't have enough money or the interest in shelling out so much for marginal players.

- We have less NIL money than our bottom feeding peers so we have to be more creative or get more big money donors.

- NIL will become less important with revenue sharing imminent but will still be a factor when fighting for players interested in a league rival.

Any other interesting nuggets that I've missed? The reason I ask is that all of these things add up to the mess we have and Pike needs to do a deep dive into future resource use to make his future teams successful. Anyway, this is why I think we're screwed and will need to move on from Pike. Not because he "sucks" as a coach or whatever. Money talks now more than anything.

It's always boggled my mind that people didn't want to come play with 2 lottery draft picks. How is that even possible? Well, I think money has proven to be more important than anything else and we just don't have enough of it.

RU Deficit

When you include non operating income, Rutgers is profitable. It’s says so on the financial statements.
Non operating like including the market value gain of the endowment should not be considered profit and therefore they do operate at a loss. They can’t use the gain to fund operations and it’s also highly volatile. There is a reason there is an operating income line item.

Rutgers merchandise (volume and quality) is pathetic compared to our peers, and in some ways seems to have gotten worse..

Demand plays a role, but it can’t be the only reason. You can find a lot of smaller schools with much more inventory available (online and in person).

I’m sure Rutgers Mickey Mouse team that manages licensing plays a role.

Adidas is probably to blame as well.

Look at our points scored divided by possessions. We have a defense problem

What is our points scored divided by possessions?
Perhaps we also have an offensive problem?

The defensive problem can't be fixed. We are already playing our "best" defenders the most minutes (did you see Davis have the worst defensive play in years on that open 3? Not even GG could make a play so bad).

The offense "could" at least be improved (could because it's likely can't be - same as the offense).

When a team is bad it’s the on the whole team no one is without fault in that sense. But high level, the issue is not Ace and Dylan not playing defense cmon that’s so unserious.

This goes all the way back to the ridiculous notion pushed this Summer that Rutgers was a walk to the sweet 16 team bc of the precedent set by other programs who’ve been in the situation we are in. The reason Washington was an outlier, and the same reason why we are an outlier, isn’t bc of the guys who ended up and will end up lottery picks. It’s primarily because of the guys on the team that weren’t and won’t be lottery picks.

The individual holes on this roster that surrounds Ace and Dylan are gargantuan, and that’s before going into how the pieces don’t even fit properly if they didn’t have holes. It was a bad project from the jump.

Criminal that we had and lost Jacob Young, Cam Spencer, Johnson, Cliff...even Mulcahy to lesser extent. At least this COVID 5th year stuff is ending. But unfortunately it's been replaced with NIL. Honestly if I didn't live in such a cold climate in winter I would be tempted to stop watching. College basketball is a shell of what it used to be.

Sit Dylan

In my case I never thought Dylan should be “gutting it out” with the flu. I also didn’t think he would be 100% today or close really. When I saw him limping around pregame I knew he would be ineffective if he played. Why can I see this and our coaches can’t ?
Wasn't referring to you at all. The sit Dylan crowd who previously acted like his flu was bs fits the bill -- the ones who say win at all costs. Their uninformed opinions are all over this post. Like some other than Pike, trainers and Harper aren't making decisions about him playing.

@SF88 has a classic story of when Schiano came back And part of his deal was the helicopter. Someone gave it a nickname & Steve-O designed some shirts with the helicopter coming in for a landing, the Block R on the side of the helicopter, sideways because the helicopter was, you know, coming in for the landing.
Rutgers wouldn't approve the shirt until the R was straight. So the shirts were produced with a nose in landing helicopter & a straight up R

What are the odds our first game gets moved to Thursday/Friday night?

I hope we open every season with a Friday (and occasionally Thursday) night home game before Labor Day weekend.
It makes sense on many levels.

TV window availability on BTN; nice evening temps as opposed to baking in the hot sun during the game; long afternoon tailgating to kick off the season; less interference with holiday weekend travel plans; etc.
It's what I said all along when apparently the B1G was going to make this a mandatory thing...volunteer for it.
But I would prefer 8 pm to 6pm kickoff
Exactly. More important for the Thursday (which I don't like anyway) but the 8 is still better than the 6.

Let’s just get simple

1.) we get to the ncaa tournament …(yes covid.cancelled it) ….amd the follow up after cliff signing we sign these three classes

Class of 2021-Jones and miller
Class of 2022-sinpson., wolfolk and chol
Class of 2023-Griftths ans davis

2.) Everyone gets an extra covid year . We make the ncaa tournment and should have beaten the 2 seed and made the sweet 16. We had a chance to run it back with the ENTIREteam. The entire team . Shoukd have come in the preseason ranked 15. Instead , we start a trend that only Ron , geo and Caleb stick around and we lose key pieces yesr after year to the portal

After 2020-2021…lose Jacob young , Myles Johnson , and Montez Mathis

2021-2022….we didn’t lose anyone , but we do convince Caleb to return….but we could not convince Ron to stay either (and to be fair , at the time is was the Right move for Ron based on where things were…but if this situation happens 2 years later…he either stays at RU for a Big NIL pay day, or goes somewhere else for A big pay day …..it’s not like we actually set the trend and made it happen when the opportunity presented itself)

2023-2023…..we lose Spenser and Mulchay

2023-2024…..we lose cliff

This is reality….we didn’t recruit . And we didn’t retain our best pieces

Now …we sign the class of 2024, and we have a solid follow up class of 2025.. We look very in the game for the class of 2026. Did we solve our recruting issues ? Do we retain Sommervile , grant and Dortch and stsrt a rebuild areoind recruting , player development …and this. requires retention and the backing to do so????

Make no mistake about it. This year with Dylan and ace was damaged because we didn’t recruit the last three years to have progrsm, mature upperclassman around then to share the load….amd what pieces could have been here …we didn’t retain

if you don’t think a cliff and a proper attituded mag as 5th year guys could have helped on the boards and defensively ….(and while we don’t know the story on mag, the issues had lack of NIL origins as part of the issues )……with a frosh front court …..especially with what we replaced them with up front in the portal……and thsr wirh both of them having sone serious offensive limitations , these guys really could have been a major factor.

I just Know what we have next to the frosh….is inadquwte and 10-10 says it all. The frosh don’t have anyone to learn from ….and are being asked to carry a real load

One that the above rant lays it out ……..
