THE OFFICIAL 2024-2025 NET RANKINGS THREAD

Defensive stats are so weird. Its amazing how most of a team end up similarly. You don't see a top 5 defensive team with four starters at around 90 and one terrible defender at 105. They are usually all bunched together.
Because it's basically impossible to get true individual defensive stats, since it's a team game and help defense is so important.

What is most discouraging about this team, and there are many possibilities

that fans still deny that our low NIL inhibits effective roster construction. I would argue that it is THE issue. Bad players make coaches look bad. Expecting a coach to transform chickenshit into chicken salad is unrealistic.
Lonely Al of Manti Teo….how big is Marquette’s NIL war chest ? And does every bball player there get his own glorious Fieldhouse ?

OT: Your stories of a brush with famous people.

yI worked at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC for 18 years. Also consulted for a lot of other museums. We used to get to go to the exhibitions before they opened as we would do surveys on what people thought about the exhibition. Once I was at the Museum of Modern Art at a pre-opening visit, and wound up in a room with just four people. Me, Lee Radziwell (Jackie O's sister), Kurt Vonnegut, and Steve Martin. I thought, "They are probably all wondering who the hell I am?"

Had a fifteen minute conversation with Walter Cronkite at The Met as he asked Moms Skillethead and me to lead him out of the museum through back ways so he wouldn't encounter too many people. We talked about Fran Lawrence back when he was in trouble. I told Cronkite that Lawrence probably said exactly the opposite of what he meant. Uncle Walter replied, "That remends of something Barry Goldwater once said to me: "Why can't the press report what I mean instead of what I say?"

Also had brief conversations with Janis Joplin and George Carlin (not together). Both pretty funny, but this post is long enough now.

Pike Failed the Fans, Minimal Effort Towards NIL Raising Would’ve Made For a Special Season

Was chatting with the guy Ive mentioned here before whos involved in the NJ AAU scene and is the former coach at a parochial. He said he finds it hard to believe that Rutgers didnt have the money to pay Cliff to stay and get the Princeton guard who went to ND.

He said cliff apparently got $800K from Bama, Alloco got $500K from Notre Dame and he is unsure what Mag got from BYU.

But with that said, considering Mag didnt have a laundry list of suitors, let’s assume he got $200K.

If pike put even minimal effort into fundraising, youre telling me he couldnt raise $1.5 to nab those 3?

The lack of effort towards fundraising for this seasons roster will be unforgiveable by most fans and rightfully so.

A roster with a starting 5 of

Harper
Alloco
Bailey
Mag
Cliff

With guys off the bench who required minimal NIL like
Ogbole
Martini
Dercack
J Williams
J-Mike
Dortch
Grant

(Yes im leaving off lathan because he was expensive and his money couldve been used towards cliff/mag/alloco)

That easily gets us to the tourney and probably sets us up for a run as well.

The lack of effort towards fundraising and allocation of funds available this year will go down as the single biggest missed opportunity in Rutgers sports history.
I think is the other way around...

Let's be clear: Rutgers fans are the ones who let this team down with their cheapness and refusal to support NIL. This program will never achieve anything without a change in that mentality. We had an amazing opportunity this year with two great players and we blew it by maintaining this view that NIL is should not be part of college athletics. For Rutgers to compete, the fans must contribute or increase their NIL contributions. This is the only way to get the needed players to make a tournament run in the future.
