Pike Failed the Fans, Minimal Effort Towards NIL Raising Would’ve Made For a Special Season

This is what another fan posted on another site

"I sat in attendance at a court club meeting where Pike mentioned the importance of NIL moving forward in basketball recruiting. Many in attendance cringed. You think Pike didn’t notice that? What’s the guy supposed to do? Rob a bank? He can ask like he has but if no one is willing to pony up then what? He is too nice of a guy to come on and just say that he had no money to get players and imagine if he did come out and say that. He would be bashed to no end because that’s what this fanbase does."
He had 2 of the most expensive NIL players in the country, and therefore one of the most expensive rosters.

doesn’t matter where the money came from, nobody here knows for certain, just a bunch of misinformation or speculation.

the NIL spend was top heavy so success was dependent on the 2 superstars being good enough to carry the team despite the quality of the supporting cast.

while the 2 superstars are good, they were not good enough!

OT: NJ Golf season

I like pebble creek. But mostly because I know I can take beginners there with zero judgement. What makes you love the place? Many other options in the area that blow Pebble away. Not meant to be condescending. Have a hard time convincing anyone but beginners to go.
I've played many ,many golf courses in NJ and 60 or 70 courses in New England. I agree, it's a very easy golf
course to play but I just like the vibes. After my Grandson takes his golf lessons this spring I thought about
starting him at PC.

Eric O’Neill was already talked about as someone who possibly could have gone to the NFL draft this year. Not to mention our QB this past year was from the portal. I’m done. I could talk about Flip Dixon, and others who have come here in the portal and played at a B1G level, but I’m not going to because it’s so painfully obvious how bad basketball has done in the portal the last two seasons
Speculative. We’re talking about his potential.

Hope you’re right, and rooting for him this year. It’s one thing to dominate at JMU. It’s another to go up against the tackles at Penn State, Ohio State, Oregon, and Iowa. There will be nowhere for him to hide.

OT: President's Day

Nor a Constitution. Nor a division from Britain. Nor a Dunkin Donuts/Starbucks.
American history could have been very different if there was a Dunkin Donuts open during the Revoution.

By the way, I always thought it would have made a good school project looking at ways the British could have better handled the events that wound up leading to the Revolution. Or if the Revolution was going to eventually happen no matter what.

OT: Winter Storm Thursday 2/20: Very Likely Somewhere Between A Non-Event and a Minor Event (oof)

Funny, the radar shows this storm going out to see, don't see how VA is gonna get all that snow that was predicted.
Yep, storm forecasts were lowered late last night and are still too high for everyone outside of eastern NC and SE VA, for the most part, where it's ripping snow and folks are likely going to get 4-8" or more, especially towards VA Beach.

Roster For Next Season

Pikes way of building a roster is a thing of the past. There is no reason to pay a player based on potential whether its short term or long.
There is too much visibility and volatility in basketball roster construction now with the limited number of positions available.
I expect Sommerville to leave and get over paid because of the position he plays and because of a few moments where he showed some talent this year. That's how it works, show something as a young player and then market yourself even though you have not even measurably helped your program up to that point. The smart guys know this, only pay for proven talent and possibly fill in with athletic freshman.
So we have to go shopping for an island of misfit toys. Ones that most others don’t want but fit our rock fight, defense first, long and athletic profile. So with the right misfit toys there’s a chance we get to the ncaas

And I pointed out that Pike is trending downward. Which he has.
Eh, barely. He's bounced around. Obviously the last couple years have been pretty disappointing.
Pike is in year 9 and has established zero offensive identity and failed to produce a winning record with two top 5 (maybe top 3 picks). When Schiano fails like that, then let me know.
You wanted to know why people are down on Pike, that’s why.
Well no that's not what I asked. Actually I didn't ask a question at all. I think it's funny and odd that people evaluate similar results so wildly differently across the two programs.
Because we look like drunk chickens with our heads cut off for half the game. You can ignore that all you want. I don’t care. But at least football is watchable.
Basketball has not been watchable since Mag went down at MSG two freaking years ago. We’re 30-39 in our last 69 games. There’s your answer
Dude football was 100% unwatchable like two years ago.
You do realize you can ask college bball coaches and they themselves will tell you rebuilding a 10 man roster is a lot easier than rebuilding an 85 man roster right? Its not even debate worthy haha.
Who are these college basketball coaches with experience rebuilding an 85 man roster?
