Agree. I understand the plan with RU is to focus the offense on Monangai, control the clock, keep the opponent's offense off of the field. But it usually makes the passing game a secondary thought. And rarely does the Rutgers offense send its receivers deep more than a small handful of times unless it absolutely needs to late. How about using the passing game (both short and deep) to start and then bringing in Monangai and the run game later rather than from the start?
If the Rutgers defense finds itself in a shoot-out, the offense will have to have more of game like the Minnesota game. The time will come to control the game with Monangai... all I'm saying is that maybe its something that comes later rather than up front. Besides, if you have some passing success early, it should enhance the runs by Kyle Monangai.
So I did something I’ve never done before - We were away for NJ convention this week in the Bahamas. On Saturday AM, I checked out the Sports Book over there… I made a nice chuck betting on Rutgers.
I normally don’t bet at all, and never on Rutgers, but aligned with the point you made, I felt that the line on Athan’s total passing yards was so low it almost had to be a mistake at 180. With Kyle not playing, I just couldn’t picture any scenerio where he wouldn’t clear that - win or lose - because I knew we’d be throwing a ton. I found it fascinating that even without Kyle, Vegas seemed to expect us to keep the ball on the ground. I knew Greg wouldn’t do that though. Not with only a frosh and sophomore RB duo available.
