Eliminate the Committee

I decided to make a separate thread of my post on the basketball board.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eliminate the Committee.
Only the Top 64 teams in NET should be in the NCAA Tournament.
#1 plays #64, 2 plays 63, 3 plays 62, etc.
#1 is in Bracket A, 2 in Bracket B, 3 in Bracket C, 4 in Bracket D.
Next #5 is in Bracket D, 6 in Bracket C, 7 in Bracket B and 8 in Bracket A.
Next #9 in Bracket A ................
Conference winners not in NET 64 automatically go to the NIT with
any NET #65 and above to follow until 32 teams are chosen.
Conference tournament winners are not considered Conference winners.
Take out any human decision making.

Over the snub (mostly) - let's send these great RU players off the right way...

Look, we all know we got screwed, between the OSU game and the Committee's snub, but what's done is done and it's time to move on. We have a group of 6 going to the NIT game against Hofstra tomorrow night and we will be loud, especially for Caleb, Paul, and Cliff, all of whom have been major parts of the best stretch of RU basketball since the late 70s and have been warriors for RU, with Caleb gone and Paul/Cliff eligible to be gone. 4 straight tourney worthy teams that missed one due to the pandemic and the other due to highway robbery (and some bad luck/play).

Please consider coming out to support your Rutgers Scarlet Knights basketball team. Sure the NIT is not where we want to be, but they're our guys and they've given us some of the best years of college basketball fandom ever at Rutgers and for that, our group (who missed the late 70s and hasn't seen much success in 40+ years until now) wants to send them off the right way.

What I learned today/ serious questions

Still can’t fathom not getting in. Seems like so much emphasis on the Minny loss and losing Mag which leads me to this……

Many teams suffered injuries this year. Why did they put so much emphasis on this for Rutgers? Looking at the last two games without Mag we blew out Michigan and lost by 5 to the B1G champ. To me that shows me we were learning to play without Mag ( inserting Simpson in the lineup as one example).
Other question. If a team suffers a Quad 3 loss late in the year I guess they should just throw in the towel. Again I thought they look at the FULL body of work.
Lastly what I learned is the committee’s words mean sh*t. Saying the OSU loss would be looked at differently……how? We should have had 20 wins. Not sure how many 20 win B1G teams have not made it to the tournament. Finally we beat the #1 team on the road. The same team that we lost to by 5….the team that won not only the conference but the B1G tournament. Are they really saying the Mag injury and the Minny loss should carry more weight then that? Come on

From now on, play with a chip on your shoulder. Prove it.

The reality is they don't think we 'looked the part", CODE: SOFT. Not enough horses to compete after Mag went down. It's an insult.

That said they aren't completely wrong either...we gave it away. WIN the games you are suppose win. No more bad loses.

BUT....Rutgers AS A PROGRAM now has to EARN the respect, stop playing "not to lose," I see it in other teams, I don't yet see it in Rutgers...yet.

We have better talent coming. Get some offensive consistency. Keep scraping on defense

Beat the piss out of teams you should beat...killer instinct.

It has to be instilled from the top. Maybe PIKE has to change, too! Get more aggresive perhaps.

The next chapter indeed....

Raise our standards and expectations! Hold are coaches to the standards they set!

Disappointing Day and I have read a lot on how we got snubbed, OOC schedule, brackets that had us in, other teams, KEN POM, Net etc..

Pikes goal was to get in the tournament. We played 23 games were ranked in the top 25 and 2nd in the big ten. Somewhere we have never been before even with last years team.

We had 9 games 3 at home, 3 against the worst teams in the conference. The offense stalled, we gave up double digit leads, we forgot to use timeouts, we missed important FT, we did not put our best lineups on the court.

We can love Pike, these young men, and this university but please raise your standards. Pike had the biggest meltdown in school history and according to the standard HE set this outcome is unacceptable.

Caleb deserves better. Caleb finally called out the team and coaches after the NW game “We can play all the good defense we want but we have to score more we have to put the ball in the basket more”.

Pike made the necessary change in the tournament with the lineup but a little to late.

Go to the game tomorrow route hard for these young man they deserve it but realize it was coaching and mistakes over 8 games that brought us from a 5 seed to out of the tournament and not a committee.

Pike got two extensions and two raises one can understand why. We are in a conversation for a tournament bid. With those raises and extensions should come raised expectations and standards. What we got was a play in game last year where we were the favorite and once again had inbound problems late and lost a tremendous game that we win with one inbound pass late. This year an absolute collapse to miss the tournament. Pike has to be better . This amazing university, state, kids, alumni deserves more.

Steve Owens responded to the message. Will Pike?

For those of you who dont follow college baseball, last spring, the Rutgers baseball team came out of the Big Ten Tournament with a 44-15 record, was runner up in the Big Ten in both the regular season and the tournament. Everyone thought we were a lock for an NCAA bid. It didnt happen. The reason the committee gave for leaving Rutgers out: horrendous out of conference schedule. Sound familiar? This year, Owens has scheduled a number of teams that have been to the NCAA Tournament in the past couple years in the OOC schedule. I dont know if Pike and Owens are friends but I hope Owens gives Pike a little friendly advice.
