The NET rating is ridiculous. KenPom seems more relevant.

I know it's early, so no need to state that, but there has to be some sense to the ratings.

Villanova is 2-5, RU is 6-1. I know Villanova is playing a tough tournament schedule, but they're 2-5!
  • In the NET, Villanova is number 6, Rutgers 80 It almost doesn't matter if you win or lose, just who you play.
  • In the KenPom, Villanova is 56, Rutgers is 36. That makes some sense.
  • Even In the RPI, where SOS is important, Villanova is 291, Rutgers is 193. So OK - SOS is important hence a 193 ranking for Rutgers, but at least Villanova is lower.
Again, SOS is important, but how skewed is that? It's just ridiculous they are using that for NCAA consideration.

While early in the season, I think it just shows how poorly the NET ranking values certain metrics. We've won by an average of 30!

THE STAR LEDGER

SO I JUST HAPPENED TO PICK UP A COPY OF TODAYS SUNDAY STAR LEDGER. 11/27/2022. WHY I DONT KNOW, I CANCELLED MY SUBSCRIPTION THREE YEARS AGO. WELL NOW I KNOW WHY. THEY HAD NO MENTION OF THE OUTCOME OR FINAL SCORE OF YESTERDAYS GAME. THEY DID HAVE A PREVIEW OF THE GAME AND STAFF PICS. DO THEY NOT KNOW THE GAME WAS PLAYED YESTERDAY? THAT IS A JOKE, THEY SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED FOR PUBLISHING THAT. NEVER AGAIN.

Duke, the Rens, and Harper

There is a strong move by Scheyer to package 3 Rens,Harper,Cunningham and Betsey. The good news is that previous Rens head,Andy Borman who is Coach K's nephew is now at Memphis as an assistant. He helped them get Flipowski, who will be a lottery pick this year. He could not convince RJ Davis,a Ren who became a Tar Heel. Also, note that Duke has perhaps the 3rd best recruiting class in history with the 2023 kids led by Mgbako and Power. It could happen with the 2024 group, but my money is on Duke getting one definitely in Cunningham and perhaps Betsey and Harper to Rutgers.

Thoughts on the national scene

I watched just about everything this weekend and have a tie in with an analytics company which reps 3 Top 10 programs.
The Big does not scare me and they are a long ways away from the SEC and a decent bit behind the Big 12 with Purdue and Michigan State and perhaps Ohio State as the only serious contenders for the Elite 8. I don't buy Woodson and think Maryland and Iowa may end up as paper tigers.A bit early to say quite obviously. I can't see Rutgers as worse than 3-2 in the next 5 which I don't envision as a gauntlet. On the national scene and if I was the committee my top 8 seeds would be:
Houston
Virginia
UConn
Purdue
Arizona
Texas
Tennessee
Bama
Teams which seem real, but will under impress in March:Duke,Gonzaga,Michigan,Nova,St John's

Just crazy enough to work at OC? June Jones!

June Jones for offensive coordinator

What's he bring:
1) Will do it his way

2) Gives zero F's, and if he isn't allowed to do it his way will have no issue telling Schiano to F himself, probably in any setting

3) Has put up historically large offensive numbers everywhere hes coached

4) Is one of those football savants with his own turn key system (the run and shoot)

5) Hates running the ball with his RB; however likes designed runs with the QB. Gavin gets 45+ touches a game (30 throwing, 15 rushing). We'll certainly see what we got then!

6) Is a name with some pedigree; like Friedgen and Jerry Kill, his pedigree is undeniable. Now, you might think he's over the hill, but this dude loves football

7) Will be spectacular; either a spectacular success or a spectacular failure

8) MOST IMPORTANTLY: Has made a living off doing it at places where everybody said it WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN. It's like he took a perverse pleasure in it

9) We can prob pay this guy in cigars and he'd take the job.

7th Verbal of the Class- Colin Wade out of Fla

Tape looks good. Another athlete who can get out and run.

Our overall athleticism is going to continue to be top shelf.

Frustrations as a Fan

I can appreciate everyone's frustration as fan for the results. I was a staunch Schiano supporter but now I am having my doubts and don't see any significant improvements in the coming years under Schiano. It's becoming more and more apparent that the game has passed him by:

- Can't hire quality offensive coaches - his next OC hire will be a telling tale on who he can get and direction of program
- recruiting is at the bottom - we need transfer QB, WR's, TE, RB to inject some life into the offense
- People say it's all about the NIL, outside of the top programs, I don't see NIL playing that much of a factor for rest of the teams involved, the rich will get richer but they were always getting the 4/5 stars anyway, as example, does IND, ILL, Iowa having large NIL?
- Player development on offense doesn't exist
- hire a dedicated QB coach for Gavin and whoever else we get
- he's got to change and let the OC game plan and call the plays, looks like he's interfering during the games on play calling ( I may be wrong here )

If you were to judge Coach Schiano by recruiting, player development and coaching, what grades would you give him. On recruiting - C-, player development - C, coaching - D

What are your thoughts?

Finally! Gotta give credit for finally making something happen outside for Pre-Game Basketball.

Took long enough to figure it out until they eventually create something inside. Long overdue and hope it can turn into an every game opportunity.
