OT: Property tax relief coming for those over 65

The Governor and legislative leadership have reached agreement on a program to be called "Stay New Jersey." Those over 65 with incomes of $500,000 or less will receive an annual payment from the state of half their property taxes up to a limit of $6500 per year. I mention this because property taxes often come up in discussions on this board of why posters are planning to leave NJ upon retirement.https://nj.gov/governor/news/news/562023/approved/20230621a.shtml

Edit: the limit is $6500, not $6200 as I originally wrote.

BB Recruiting Five programs that have elevated their recruiting profiles

Possibly the most obvious selection for this list, Rutgers is coming off an absolute dream cycle in 2024, as the Scarlet Knights landed their best recruiting class in program history. How things work out for NBA hopefuls Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper, both of whom chose head coach Steve Pikiell's program over multiple bluebloods in the 2024 class, may determine the immediate future of Rutgers hoops.

Should the five-star duo find success at their non-traditional home, there will almost certainly be a positive ripple effect with future classes. Should this season go south, however, things could go back to the status quo rather quickly.

Either way, landing Harper and Bailey sent a message to the country that Rutgers has what it takes to stand toe-to-toe with heavy hitters in the NIL era and could become an even bigger player for elite talent should it start placing guys in the NBA Draft Lottery.

There are the seedlings of something special brewing in Piscataway, and those seedlings could blossom quickly if the upcoming season plays out the way Rutgers fans hope.

Key to Special Season

No secret here: qb play. If Athan does only slightly better than Gavin, I feel RU wins 6-8 games with a strong ground game, improved wr corp, average to above avg oline play, top five BIG defense and a solid fg kicker.

For RU to win 8-10 games, there’ll be a game or two where Athan will have to win the game with his arm and decision making. It could be a drive or two or RU playing from behind late in the game, most teams that have the known strong qualities of RU that go on to a ten+ win season have a qb who can put an offense on his shoulders and win a game. It’s been quite some time where RU has had a qb that can do that (I.e. Nova). I firmly believe if Athan can elevate his game, RU wins 10 games and this is the year to do it without OSU, Mich nor Oregon on the schedule.

Hope this kid plays with a chip on his shoulder and proves to Fleck and Minn what they lost out on.

GO RU

OT: Frank Selvy dead at 91

In 1954,the Furman guard became the only player-and remains so today-to score 100 points in a Division 1 basketball game, going 41 for 66 from the field and 18 for 22 from the charity stripe. His last shot that went in was a near half court shot at the buzzer.
The game was the first game ever televised in South Carolina and the first one in which his mother had seen him play.
Even more remarkable was that this was done in an era without the three point shot.
The Paladin next roamed through various NBA cities and a timeout with Uncle Sam,playing in 2 NBA All-Star Games.
Unfortunately for Selvy,he is best remembered for missing an open shot at the buzzer,a shot that would have given the Lakers the NBA title in 1962, their first title since leaving Minneapolis.
The Celtics went on to win it all in overtime.
Danny O'Keefe was right.
Some gotta win;some gotta lose.
