Next Hoop Recruit

With rosters increasing to 15 players will we be filling out 2025 with a couple more high school seniors or going to the portal exclusively? We suspect we lose two of our freshmen from this class to the draft leaving a class of three sophomores. We have 4 frosh who would make 7 players for 2026 plus several freshman. Jamichael and Ogobole are the only upper classmen I suspect return. To confound this is the lack of NiL

Practice yesterday August 1 and on August 7,2024

I was lucky to be invited to watch practice yesterday.
Here are some observations :
1) Dylan looked healthy , he moved well in full court fastbreak drills and some zone defense work. He was held out of the full court scrimmage that was only about 5-10 minutes. He will be a stud .
2 ) Pleasantly suprised by Jordan Derdack who got the run with JWill in Dylan’s absence. Fluid ball handler, driver and his shot from 3 was on as well. Real good transfer pickup ;
3 ) Although scrimmage was short and hard to get a complete feel of a full game , ACE is just so incredibly athletically gifted. He is almost automatic from 10-15 feet. His Three looks pure and did not shoot a lot on scrimmage but his passing was outstanding as he got Grant and Dorsch layups and PJ an open 3 . He made one move getting the ball on the wing , dribbled left and then flew for a thunderous slam. He was God like.
4 ) Practiced a lot of zone defense as the staff clearly feels they will be seeing a lot of it because few teams will be able to stay with Dylan and Ace one on one.
5) PJ and Martini are flat out shooters. Will hit threes at a high rate. I am convinced they both will shoot 40% from 3 as both have great quick releases, great form and it appears like it is going in every time .
6 ) JWill and JMike ran the show on their respective teams and JWill looked great and will be a captain and leader of the team .
7 ) Big E has slimmed down and looks good and will get some dunks from all the passers in the team. Lathan is a big dude and can bang inside. Did not see any 5 out from him so did not see his three point shooting
8) Grant and Dorsch know their roles and cut for dunks when ACE or anyone else is doubled in the paint. Very athletic and will get a few minutes this year.
9 ) They practiced a half court offensive set with 3,variations. Simple stuff but Pike ran it . They also practiced out of bounds plays again with 2-3 variations. Pike ran that as well. So the idiots that say Pike doesn’t run offense can take a seat.

Again , no long full scrimmage but this is a deep team that has tremendous pieces besides Dylan and Ace. Three point shooting from PJ and Martini will get a lot of looks and will knock them down. Others can shoot threes , Derdack , Dylan , and Ace and did not see Latham shooting them.
The team is incredibly long and will get a ton of deflections and the defense will be okay.
Acuff was still in a boot riding a scooter but involved watching and interacting .
They ran sprints in between drills and will be in great shape looking to get out on the break. ACE out on the break is a highlight reel. This will be a fun team to watch and root for .

KTR-NIL feedback requested, please read and reply

Everyone,

I know I may be asking for more than I want to hear. But every year at this point we at KTR work on goals for the new year.

With the recent leadership change this reflection takes on some added importance.

One of our goals (besides corporate, partnership, etc.) is to increase our monthly membership level from where it has been hovering for a while at 1000 members.

I'd like your feedback and ideas on how we can make it easy AND how we can entice people to join KTR at the $10 a month level.

For those who say that won't make a difference it actually does for a number of reason, especially to corporate partners who we can offer access to our members. The more members we have the more interested corporate partners are.

So, for those who are members and those who aren't how can we make it easy to go from 1,000 members to 10,000 members?

What benefits should we offer? How to we reach new people? What should we ask from Rutgers to help us?

I know this is one piece of the NIL pie, but it is an important one.

Folks on this and other board have not been shy about sharing their opinions before, so I would hope you won't be shy now.

Thanks for your feedback,

Jon

OT: James Franklin Crying….

About being in the middle of bubblef@ck and having to travel two hours to Harrisburg for an airport that has planes that can travel cross country without having to stop to refuel.

"So, the second part of your question is a big part of us leaving on Thursday is we cannot fly out of State College," Franklin told reporters in his Monday press conference. "That was a big part of our discussions with the Big Ten when all this thing (expansion to the West Coast) got started.

"Not only are we one of the most northeast schools, but based on runway length, size of plane, weight of plane, fuel on plane, we can't get out of here unless we would stop for fuel. So with that, we've got to fly out of Harrisburg."

Funny stuff.
