UPDATE 6/14/25: Support Beaced-a 99 year old Scarlet Knights fan in need

Hey Friends,

My dad, beaced (aka Burt) is already gearing up for the 2025 football season - he's convinced it's going to be a championship year. Let's just say optimism is strong in this one! He absolutely loves reading all your posts, even the off-topic ones (maybe especially those), and he chimes in when he can. It seriously brings him a lot of joy.

We haven't quite hit our fundraising goal yet, but your support has been incredible and keeps him going. If you're able, please consider sharing his story with your friends, family, coworkers - or that one super generous friend with a heart of gold.
Thanks again for being a part of his team. Your kindness and generosity truly means the world to both of us.
Happy Father's Day blessings to all.

With love and a grateful heart,
beaced's daughter Daria and biggest cheerleader

OT: NJ Gov't to shut down #1 Disc Golf course in NJ

Really sad situation. Local disc golfers took an abandoned piece of land, made it into something spectacular. The disc golf pro tour made a stop here last year, the first major tournament in NJ since the 1979 Frisbee world championships at Rutgers. Now a local winery is opening next door and the owner wants to shut down quite literally the most popular course in the state. 30,000+ annual players.

If you don't mind taking 2 seconds to sign this that's be great but more importantly, please do not support "Saddlehill Winery" or Bill Green in any way. This would genuinely be devastating for the local community

New NIL rules (Edited to summarize the lawyer-ese)

Let me summarize what the House settlement says about NIL agreements between student-athletes (both those in school and those being recruited) and "Associated Entities or Individuals"

"Associated Entities or Individuals" means:

*An organization established to support a school's athletic program or student athletes or to create or identify NIL opportunities (this undoubtedly includes collectives);

*Anyone who is or was a member of that kind of organization;

*Anyone who has directly or indirectly donated more than $50,000 over his lifetime to a school or to the kind of organization listed above. The $50,000 includes donations made by family members and undoubtedly includes the person's business.

*Anyone who has assisted in recruiting or retaining players or who an institution has directed or requested to play a part in that;

* Anyone who is affiliated with any of the above except for a publicly-traded corporation.

The settlement goes on to say that the NCAA and the Conferences can continue to prohibit NIL transactions involving the people and organizations of the kinds listed above. The only deals allowed between them and athletes are those that have "a valid business purpose" related to promoting or endorsing products and services offered to the general public. The deal has to have compensation similar to that paid to individuals with comparable NIL value who aren't athletes or recruits at the institution.

NIL deals have to be reported if their value is greater than $600. If there are multiple deals, then all of them have to be reported if their total value is greater than $600.

OT: South Amboy's Johnny O'Brien dead at 94

The 1950's Pirates' reserve infielder and occasional moundsman had quite a collegiate career on the hardwood as well,playing for Seattle University.
He became the first player in NCAA history to score 1,000 points in one season in 1953.More spectacularly,he scored 43 points in one game in a stunning upset of the Harlem Globetrotters in 1952.(Things regarding amateur-pro matches were not as strictly enforced as they are today.Hell,Seton Hall once played a game against something called the Asbury Park Lyceum)

O'Brien went on to become a Seattle councilman and sportscaster for his Alma Mater with Keith Jackson doing the play by play.

All in all,a life well lived.
