Ole Miss DT
Isaiah Iton is listed at 6-2, 290 lbs and went to Hutchinson CC in Hutchinson, KS. Before Hutchinson, he spent one season at Northern Colorado and before that he went to Pearland HS in Houston, TX. He has 1 year of eligibility remaining. He entered the portal on 1/6/23.
Iton has been a rotational DL in his 2 years at Ole Miss, making two starts and appearing in 23 games in Oxford. Over those 23 games, he's recorded 24 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 0.5 sacks and 1 pass breakup.
Iton had his best PFF grade of his career in 2022, putting up a grade of 68.8 (did not play enough snaps to qualify for a positional grade, 99 total). He previously graded out at a 56.5 in 2021 (764th out of 826 qualifying DTs).
Iton did not report any other offers and basically visited Rutgers immediately after entering the portal. This one seemed like it was done before it even got started.
Scanning through the Ole Miss site, it seems like there's a mixed reaction to him leaving. Some speculated he was hurt in 2022, some wondered why he saw so little playing time this season, but almost everyone agreed that he had a ton of potential but had yet to put it all together. They all expected him to build on what most of their fans thought was a very good 2021.
Iton should step into the DT rotation immediately, filling the role Ifeanyi Maijeh has had the past two seasons. This could be a decent upgrade if we can unlock this guy's potential in his final year of college.
