10 Wins Looks Possible

10 wins is possible if you bet the opponent in the moneyline. Actually, it probably isn't possible because I doubt there will be a moneyline for 10 of our games...

I dare you to go ahead and bet the opponent on the moneyline. 2016 ain't 2015. We are much better than Vegas expects. we're two years removed from a team that should have gone 9-3. we struggled last year only because we were missing our best player on the defensive line and 3/4 of our starting secondary. We are in much better shape across the board and add to that better coached and our prospects look much brighter. If things break right, this year could be 2006 all over again.

we were a 20 point favorite when fresno played us, and we lost. I think we've got a great chance, because they simply don't respect us, and we're going to go out there, and SMACK them in the mouth. This is a NEW era of Rutgers Football!!
I like your enthusiastic use of the BOLD font, however i do not see this being a close game after the first quarter. Two years from now I think it is a different story if Ash is still here.

Well if you dared me in 2015 to bet Rutgers games ATS you would have witnessed me win quite a bit of money especially giving the points. But I degress...

I can't take your bet this year because it's very possible there will not be a money line for every opponent sans New Mexico, Illinois, Indiana, and Maryland.

Last year was an unmitigated disaster. This years coach sports a National Championship Ring while he was an assistant at Ohio State, and runs a much tighter ship. 2016 Allen or 2016 Laviano will be much better than 2015 Laviano. There probably won't be the distractions that there were last year. Right Tackle play should be much improved from last year. From Kyle Flood going undercover to half our secondary being in chains.

That's the big difference from last year and this year. Aside from OSU and Michigan, everyone else is fair game.

Since, according to your "insightful" analysis, we've been the bama of the north for ever, what exactly where "those" eras ??

I guess technically speaking you are not wrong... then again a title of "0 wins seems possible" would be just as technically correct...

I hear you. At this point in the year, he should be claiming that 16 wins is possible: 12 regular season wins, conference championships, playoff game, NCAA championship, and one extra win just because we're so awesome.
I thought the extra win would be from the exhibition game we'd be invited to play against the combined NFL Pro Bowl selections.

This seems like a good place to post this:

http://247sports.com/Season/2016-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite

It measures the talent level of each team based on the recruiting classes that make up this season's rosters. You'll see that RU is ranked 11th in the B1G, sandwiched between Indiana and Illinois. (And referencing a debate from a couple of weeks ago, Maryland's roster is ranked sixth in the conference.)

Someone really needs to go and clean up their data on that site.

It only has 4 of our freshman class listed, and all as "NA" for ratings (instead of 3* for each). No one else in the rest of the class is even listed in their data (10 more 3* recruits).

The missing players seem to be because on the Rutgers "Commits" page, it still has most of our class in their "Signed Letter of Intent' category instead of as "Enrollees". No idea why four "Enrollees" don't have their stars showing, though.

Also I love how he has @ Washington as a possible win. Could very well be toughest game of year. We're going cross country with a new coach and system against a team some have ranked in top 10.

We're likely 20 pt dogs on this game.
I freaking hate the lovefest for Washington. If they were in our division their best case scenario would be third place and I don't even think it would be that high. They were 7-6 last year. What was the signature win that they had? A Wazzu team that lost their starting qb and the backup was a disaster? A 6 loss USC or Arizona team? A C-USA team in Southern Miss? Their quality wins get worse from there. Flood had more quality wins 2 years ago.

We are in much better shape across the board .

No, we're not. I love where we're headed - recruiting and coaching wise - but we have all sorts of issues right now. Ash is a straight-shooter and if you read his comments, post-Saturday, how on EARTH could you come away thinking this?

Knowing who you are talking to, how on earth can you ask this question?[laughing]

I posted his comments, and came away feeling very positive. But I always looks at the glass being half full. Do I feel all giddy that we will win 10 games? No, but I don't feel that we have "all sorts of issues." Can you point to some quotes where you come to that conclusion? This is not a flame. I'm just wondering if my reading comprehension needs adjustment.

Reasons for optimism:

"Really happy with the way the players have embraced the whole condition of practice, the new location, the elements, the physicality, the way that we've been pushing them, the length of practices, and everything. We've had no distractions, and we've gotten better because of it.The players keep giving us everything that we ask of them. They're working extremely hard, showing up. They're early to everything, not questioning one thing we're asking them to do, and I really appreciate that, and it's making our job easier. "
(some had predicted mass defections from the program. We have lost a few, but not too many)

"With the quarterbacks, specifically, through the first seven practices, I like the way the overall group is working, and when I say the overall group, it's not just one and two or one through four, it's the whole group, including freshman Tylin Oden. They're all working hard, and they're all learning the offense and continue to improve."

"I'm actually very thankful we had the weather we did this first week because, again, it puts the team to a test. How are we with our leadership, our toughness, our commitment, helping each other through the tough times? And I would say our team right now passed that test."

"They passed it. Our injury list is very small. We had very few players that are not out there practicing every day throughout the full practice. So I can tell you that our plan up to this point and the way they've been trained through the spring and summer has worked."

"But I'm not going to make any excuses or change our expectations that we're here to build a program, not just a team, but we want a program that is successful and is competitive and has a chance to win every game that we play. I'm not going to say it's going to be year three or year four or year five. It's not fair to the players. It's not fair to the university or the fans, but it is a process, and it's going to take a little bit of time to make sure that we get where we want to be.

Now, again, maybe we can get that done in two weeks. I hope we can, and we're ready to go out and play once we play that first game, and we're going to keep swinging as hard as we can. The players are all in. The staff is all in. I'm really excited about where this team is at right now."

Al-

Of course every game is "possible" to win, in the theoretical sense. But, the rest of this board and indeed college football fans everywhere deal in probabilities and not possibilities. Declaring 10 "possible" wins is pretty meaningless. I assume even you - regardless of what you're drinking - are not suggesting that it is probable that RU will win 10 games.

I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that you're at Tiki Bar in Point pounding 16oz double-shot Screwdrivers while double-fisting with Oyster shots.

C'mon now AYN... We both know that's not true...Otherwise the title woulda been "13-0 and playoff bound is possible" [roll][roll][roll][roll][roll][roll][roll][roll]

What issues do you think we have that will prevent us from winning 10 games? we are two years removed from a team that should have won 9 games but blew the PSU game in the last few minutes. With Hamilton back and in the best shape of his career, better qb play, continued development of robert martin and hicks, as well janarion grant ready to break out, i don't see a team on the schedule we can't beat, aside from OSU and UMich.

Upsets happen[banana] Though doubtful RU will upset as many teams needed to be 10-2 in regular season play , optimism before season starts shouldn't be something ridiculed.
I'll just say 10 wins for RU is a ( remote?) possibility, but not something anyone should expect.
Al posting his we'll be great messages are sometimes a breath of fresh air when faced with the negative reality that a lot of RU fans post.

Not that their wrong to say 10 wins won't happen, especially when the so-called media experts and fans of other schools show the reasons that 10 wins won't be coming RU's way and why it will be that way .
I'll just stay on the plane headed to fantasy island until I find out that Fantasy Island doesn't exist when the plan lands on solid ground in the Land of Reality

Lotta of assumptions here. Hamilton is still injured and limited. He was wearing a non contact jersey in practice so not sure where you get "best shape of life". Everything else is pure opinion.

Forecasts are based on assumptions. thats why they're called forecasts. The only time you have facts are when you have results.

Hamilton is bigger and stronger than he's ever been. Thats a fact.

We're all here to share our opinions and I believe that the non contact jersey is precautionary. There's nothing for him to prove on the practice field. We just need to keep him healthy for the games.

Based on what? Another post looking blindly at a line from an overhyped team. Bet the under on Washington season....

Yeah Washington is getting a bit too much hype. I've seen some Top 10 predictions for them.

That being said, they'll probably beat RU, and possibly it wont be that close.

RutgersAl kiss of death. Looks like a 2-10 season with upset wins vs Michigan and OSU.

In all seriousness, I only see 2 games that are highly likely wins: Howard and New Mexico. I see 3 games as toss ups: Illinois, Minnesota, and Indiana. The rest are likely losses. Rutgers will struggle to get 6 wins this season.

Auburn 2012 - 3-9
  • Fires Gene Chizik after 4th year
Auburn 2013 - 12-2
  • Gus Malzahn's 1st year
  • SEC champions
  • National runners-up
