That is Chris Peterson's record as a Boise St and Washington coach vs. game 1 of the Chris Ash coaching career. Look back at any of the top coaches first coached game and see what the results were. We are coming off a 4-8 record last year. What did you really expect?

That there would be at least 1 QB on a D1 roster that could either throw it 21 yards down field and/or know how to look-off a receiver and complete a pass.

But, I'm hard to please.

I decided to look at your example. Chris Petersen's Boise State Broncos won their first game. And the second, and the third. In fact, they won every game they played that first year:

From wikipedia:

In his first year as head coach in 2006, Petersen led the Broncos to an undefeated regular season and the program's first ever BCS bowl game berth. He became the fourth rookie head coach to lead a team to a BCS bowl game. Boise State was the only undefeated team in Division I FBS for the 2006 season.

Maybe Coach Ash wants to establish a few things on his offense first like OL cohesion or some WRs to throw to b4 putting out his best QB on the roster.

And what was Boise St. record the year b4? He wasn't coming off a 4-8 record team. They were already good under Dan Hawkins b4 Chris Peterson's took over.

Dan Hawkins left Peterson with a helluva program. Hawkins was 53-11 at Boise.

And Kyle Flood left Ash with a helluva nightmare.
