Here are Rutgers registered wrestlers.

57 kg Sean McCabe
61 kg Pete Lipari
61 kg Josh Patrick
61 kg Scott Delvecchio
65 kg Sam Cali
65 kg Tyson Dippery
70 kg William Povalac
70 kg Anthony Giraldo
70 kg Ken Theobold
74 kg John Van Brill
80 kg Anthony Pafumi
80 kg Phillip Bakuckas
86 kg Nicholas Gravina
125 kg Marc McDonald
125 kg Ralph Normandia

Of note ex Rutgers wrestler Ronnie Gentile is registered at 65 kg.

Not sure it was ever discussed whether Gentile was staying in school. Clearly seemed to lose interest in continuing with the grind of being with a top program. I thought he also was dealing with injuries and perhaps he is feeling better that rekindled the fire?

I mentioned back in early 2015 that I heard from some coaches that he was burned out & they'd be shocked if he ever contributed. It sucks but it happens. Don't expect him to rejoin. That 2015 recruiting class is going to leave a gaping hole if we don't land some elite transfers.

I believe he is no longer at RU. He just came in 1 day and said his heart was no longer in it and quit.

So he does not need to be attached to a club or university to compete in this tournament?

Maybe this is a silly question, but if he is so burnt out, what is he doing competing at University Nationals? Not like that is a knitting contest...

Competing in a Freestyle tournament or an open tournament is fun for most wrestlers......The D-1 college grind is not so fun, Lol. Many get burnt out by the early morning conditioning and then afternoon practice, pretty much year round. Most fans(and I am not saying you) really have no clue how hard D-1 wrestlers train.

Ash had a little infection in his knee so there is no need for him to go into summer tourneys. Giraldo had a knee hurt in that Virginia duals so I don't think he makes the Universitys.

Photo of the Day

This is a photo from Eddie Alvarez's Twitter Account
There was a wrestling session with this group down the shore at Elite Fitness on Weds morning 6/1. There is Frankie Edgar standing in the middle. Eddie Alvarez, the UFC #2 ranked lightweight is standing to the right of the ladies. Edson Barboza, the #6 ranked lightweight is kneeling second from right. And of course there is Scott Delvecchio standing far left and Ash standing far right. Interestingly Scotty looks every bit the size of Frankie who fights at 145 pounds and Ash looks the size of Eddie Alvarez who fights at 155 pounds. That may be Vinnie DellaFave to the left of Frankie.

Is it me or most of our guys aren't in the brackets. No Delv Dipp or Theo to name a few.

A buddy jokingly texted me last night wondering if one of the RU buses got lost on way to weigh ins. Giraldo, Cali and McDonald a couple more not in brackets. Don't understand registering them and not weighing them in.

Theo is in the bracket.

Tyler Graff is also wrestling at 61kg, listed under NYAC. Normandia weighed in at 249 lbs.

I just scanned the heavyweight division to see what guys weighed in at and of the starters or recent grads I noticed Normandia is right in the middle. heavier than Ty Walz, Austin Schafer and Tanner Hall, even with DeJournette, within 10-15 pounds of Kroells and Gwiz.

Brackets are enormous. 7 matches for the finalists for most of the weights. more for everyone who sticks around for wrestlebacks, although I'm guessing we'll see more than a few forfeits in the consis.

70 kg has 93 wrestlers. 644 in the tournament. 12 mats going at once. think they might have to start going to a qualification process. this is becoming a very popular tournament. somem guys high up on the senior ladder came out too. Megaludis, Graff, Gadson, Gwiz. 74 could see IMart vs Chance.

Only a couple of Rutgers wrestlers, what happened? Looks like there would have been a lot of good competition.

Bakuckas having a nice showing and is still alive. He's going to wrestle Skatzka who red-shirted at Indiana in the semifinals. Winner likely gets All-American Alex Meyer from Iowa.

Bak won easily over Skatzka by TF 12-2 and will face Meyer in the final. Meyer beat Bak 8-3 last year.

Bak's in the semifinal. the brackets are so large you have to toggle back and forth between the top and bottom half on track wrestling. button for that is on the left. If Bak beats Meyer he gets the winner of Morrelli (PSU) and Paddock (also Iowa).

Ah, I see. My bad.

Graff got 2nd. Baku got 5th. Theo got banged up a bit. Parfumi got banged up so it was an up and down event. McCabe and Normandia did ok in wrestlebacks.
