Ahhh the "he hasn't played in college yet" posts. These are a pet peeve of mine and among the most pointless posts on the boards.Since we haven't seen Harper or McConnell take a single shot in a college game yet, they are question marks. I'd go Baker, Thiam, Kiss... with hopes that McConnell and Harper will find success at the next level.
Ahhhh the "project HS freshman ahead of current college starters" posts..... nonsensical as always.Ahhh the "he hasn't played in college yet" posts. These are a pet peeve of mine and among the most pointless posts on the boards.
So Eugene is a better three point shooter than Harper since he's played in college and Harper hasn't? It's just thoughtless. You can still make projections and predictions.
And Gio is better than Art too right? It's just an anti-intellectual thought process
I recall that Mike Williams was billed as the best shooter in NYC. Love what Mike gave us over the years but his shooting in college did not match his pre-college billing.
With that I hope all our recruits do great.
I always thought his three point shooting would come around but sadly it never did. Offensively he was a disappointment but on the bright side replacing Williams Sanders and Souf has to lead to a better three point shooting team this season.I recall that Mike Williams was billed as the best shooter in NYC. I said the top 3 will all be close. Harper could easily be 3. You're the one not including any freshman just bc they haven't played yet. That's ridiculous
Look what Geo did last year as a freshman. Going by your logic last year you would have ranked Souf Sanders Williams all above him. See how that logic is so flawed?
Isn’t Mathis supposed to be a really good shooter? Are we having some recruit recency bias here?
6'6" with a high quick release AND he elevates on the jumper a little, even from 3. I don't think he's worried about a hand in his face at all.Harpers 3 point game should translate very. He seems to have a quick/high release and not afraid to shoot with a hand in his face. If the rest of his game is adequate as a freshman, he should get plenty of shooting opportunities.
Agreed.6'6" with a high quick release AND he elevates on the jumper a little, even from 3. I don't think he's worried about a hand in his face at all.
Obviously anecdotal, but McConnell hits two ridiculously long range 3s in this game video (and shows off some sick passing skills)
Yeah, even the two skip passes, especially the one for the corner 3 the kid misses, show how much he sees the court and gets spacing, etc.Rarely do these clips show much, but I think a kid like Mc is the exception: he know how to play the game.
Where did he play again. His teammates look like how can I say this nicely? Sanitation. It's like Lebron and the guys he plays with.Obviously anecdotal, but McConnell hits two ridiculously long range 3s in this game video (and shows off some sick passing skills)
Spires Academy in Ohio... I think he had one good teammate. For some strange reason, he also comes up as a Florida kid, so he may have been there when he was younger? It's all confusing, but he looks like he could be great.Where did he play again. His teammates look like how can I say this nicely? Sanitation. It's like Lebron and the guys he plays with.
Sounds about right... hard to tell how McConnell and Harper will translate to D1 so I might put Thiam ahead.
Agreed. It is impossible to rank a high school kid's shooting until he steps into a Big 10 game. Remember, Mike Williams (whose overall game I loved) was NYC's leading 3-point shooter coming out of high school. But, that skill never translated to the P-5 college level, as Mike was never better than a decent 3-point shooter for RU.
If I am recalling correctly, I think Pikiell said that his goal was about 25 three point attempts per game. If we can make 8 or 9 per game that would be a great improvement....maybe 10 or more on some hot shooting nights. Need to get those makes from Baker, Thiam, Harper, Kiss and McConnell and whoever fills that last spot.
Baker-2
Thiam-2
Harper-2
Kiss-2
McConnell-1
Get that and I'm happy.
