Are we the weakest and slowest team in all CFB ?

We played 4 Top 10 Teams and 1 Team ranked around 22, we beat the 2 cupcakes on the schedule, got blown out by Mich St. but were close with the other 4 teams. Having a young LB core, your best playmaker getting hurt, a new offensive system without the appropriate personal leads to these type of results.

Next year I expect to see improvements on both sides of the ball. Having Gio and Oden in the system for over a year, much better clock control to keep the defense off the field, playmakers like Mitchell, Grant, Harris, Washington. As long as we can avoid the 49-0, 55 - 0 type of scores, that will be progress. Hell, anything will be progress, having ST that can go and stop kickoffs and punt returns and get field position, having a K that can kick the ball better than the opponents 20, a punter who can punt longer than 30 yards, we have so many holes to fix, the staff should start on the recruiting trail and reflect on the season and start with off season workouts now. I just couldn't believe how much we have digressed as the year went on. Ash and team have alot of reflecting and work to do this off season, Ash has to make some changes and he has to keep the class and add key pieces via transfer or other routes to help compliment the recruiting class. Also he may need to think about helping Mehringer out with a co-OC.

I know as a fan it was tough watching this team but I couldn't imagine how much worse it must have been for the coaching staff and players. Hopefully they will learn from this year and make the necessary changes as a team to keep improving.

Safe to say Ash agrees re: speed. From yesterday's post-game:

- recruiting "emphasis IS ON SPEED"..."not enough explosive plays on Offense..."

hahahaha, just love the revisionist view you guys have

Our problem isn't talent, we have talent enough for middle of the pack. Our issue is coaching and it's becoming evident in the state

"revisionist view"? You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I was literally thrown off the boards for about 9 months because of my realistic POV re: Flood and his recruiting issues (which began in the fall of 2013).

@Caliknight check in!

The biggest anti-Ash people in this thread were ani-Ash as soon as he was announced instead of Al (can't win with 4 stars but at least he is from Jersey) Golden.

FWIW. So take what they say with a massive grain of salt.

gotta back up Nuts here.

some quick history:

1) Pre-Flood, Nuts was viewed as an absolute RU shill, positoid, kool aid drinker...you name it
2) Then, he started posted about his concerns with Flood, and the direction Flood was taking things. And got pretty vocal about his concerns
3) He got so vocal, the pendulum shifted and many on this board called him a negatoid
4) He got so vocal, that as he pointed out above, he got a time out since he would lay out his concerns pretty regularly

So, you can call Nuts lots of things (lol!), but he has been very consistent on his views re: Flood. And he was right. I know for a fact he's not happy he was right...but he was.

Nuts may have gotten a bit over overzealous during that time which is why he got a time out, but no one other than the leftover flood fans would say he was wrong in his opinion of Flood, he was right on the money all the way right from the start.

you people make me laugh. When Flood was sucking, no one claimed talent was an issue. At the beginning of the year, talent wasn't an issue. To totally ignore the coaching and obvious mistakes all year, lack of adjustments, player decisions etc and blame talent is beyond ignorant

I guess you haven't been paying attention

There have been more than a few saying such...

I used to do a weekly game recap called "Comments and Observations"....that was pretty popular

And I was NOTHING more than being balanced and calling like I saw them

Which was our talent was dropping FAST....especially on the speed side.

Long story short....I got shouted down by the "Flood camp", got hate emails, and said it just wasn't worth it...so I quietly kept my mouth shut for most of 2014 and 2015....

There are plenty of others

...and NUTS was the most vocal...saying we had big problems in the talent department and it would catch up with us

lol, what's he sending messages to people in need of validation? One person does not make fanbase. This fanbase ignored this message focusing solely on coaching until Ash, now it's a talent issue when we've got a coach that can't make up his mind on 3rd sending in different packages and taking TOs...amongst other things.

like I said, you guys are comical here blaming talent

Two things are becoming exceedingly obvious:

1) you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, and

2) you're completely full of shit because, had you been here prior to Ash being hired, for a couple of years or even a couple of weeks, you would know that we've been discussing the talent issue all along.

At this point it's easier to just assume that you were living in a cave, or under a rock, or in a coma, for the last three years. There's no way in hell you can be this ignorant to what's been going on around here and what has or hasn't been discussed, AD NAUSEUM, just none.

Nuts - you were absolutely correct about Flood and the lack of talent. So were many on the site -- congrats. I personally think the constant reminders in each and every thread then were more of an issue than you being right and you probably would admit that also. I also think that you and others at the time might have "heard" people's "enough already" posts as support for Flood rather than enough of beating that point to death. In reality everyone was very very frustrated thru the Flood tenure, and some, equally annoyingly supported Flood past the end.

BTW - I was right about Pernetti. You were wrong. Last time I will ever say that unprovoked--- why because it because it doesn't matter. There is no Rutgers football forum scorecard for who is right and who is wrong.

This thread is a perfect example of what continues to be wrong with the site. I never was vocal in my support of Flood or my dislike for Flood but god forbid one disagrees with someone's opinion of Ash and all of a sudden you are labeled as a "Floodie". That's just a reflection of how small minded some folks are rather than an attempt to have honest discussion/argument.

Yes Ash inherited a mess. But all one has to do is open their eyes and see that there were more problems than just talent this year. If you don't believe me, just listen to Ash himself in his press conferences. We should all be hopeful but concerned as Rutgers football moves forward. There is a ton riding on Ash's ability to fix this mess.

I loved Ash's presser yesterday. Absolutely loved it as he didn't hold anything back INCLUDING non-roster items. See my post in this thread:

You're right. Throw in new defensive system and tackling techniques, new S&C/nutrition programs, academic responsibilities and more changes.

Definitely the least talented. And slowest. Time for Ash to do what is most important.

Recruit.
S&C has always been a problem at RU. A lot of S and no C. Gassed DB's at Fresno, Rice and Sanu and others caught from behind(by linebackers) in their 3rd year in the program. Sanu was a faster Freshman than a Junior.

The only thing I'm gonna give the S&C guy a break on, for now, is that he's only been with these guys for a short period of time. I'm no expert but can't imagine that, to do EVERYTHING you want, both "S" and "C"-wise, maybe, it takes more than a single off-season? Could that have been an issue this year? Overhauling an entire team from one program, to another, should you really expect to see true progress, as such, this quickly?

The same Ray Rice who had over 2,200 yards from scrimmage as a junior had an issue with conditioning?

This team is filled with a bunch of bad football players. Our entire starting linebacker core would barely start at an FCS school. They can't shed a block to save their life

Worst set of LBs I've ever seen at RU. Gopre ?
Also the TE, WR, Safety, Punter, Kicker.....and yes QB positions were all among the worst I've ever seen here. Probably could include Guards too.
Ash and co. have their work cut out for them.

this looks worse than when Schiano took over.
Need a new S&C Coach in here....an Assistant from Hawaii just ain't cutting it.
One of a few Staff changes needed.
No. We were bigger, stronger and faster than New Mexico who finished 8-4 so there is a whole world outside if the Big where we are not overmatched.

Of the Big team we did okay against, here are my off the cuff comments:

Iowa was clearly bigger and played a tough physical game. We played toe to toe and had our chances.

Minn seemed a little bigger but again we made a lot of big stops on 3rd and 4th and 1 so no.

Illinois we controlled the LOS so no.

Indiana no..

Hawaii .....jackass lol

I stand by my prediction, we'll want a new coach by year 3 and by end of year 4 he will be bought out
Kiss next year good bye and recruiting begins to take a sharp turn south

the guy simply is in over his head

Some people wanted Ash to fail as soon as he was hired.

Like I have said before some people are bigger fans of Flood or Al Golden than they are of Rutgers.

"Are we the weakest ,slowest team in CFB" absolutely not.Why are you even thinking this? If you had done any research you would be aware that The Little Sisters of the Gimp and Chubby Univ., have a FB team.
