Hi - longtime Michigan WBB fan here and B1G Tourney veteran of 17 of the last 18. For those of you who are concerned about seating, I don't think you have any reason to be.
A certain number of rows will be reserved directly behind each team's bench for the wristband holders. The ushers monitor those rows. Everything else is GA, and there will be plenty of room to spread out and sit with fellow fans in other areas when your team's not playing.
The B1G used to assign seats based on the number of tickets sold by each team. For all of the years in Indy, that meant Purdue always had a big section in the center and those of us with smaller traveling fan bases would be stuck in the corners. I much prefer the new process as it allows fans to flow in and out of some of the better seats as different games are played. It didn't make much sense to have large sections of the arena unused when a team lost, and its fans went home.
Lastly, pretty much everyone hated the Sears Centre two years ago, and I know several fans across the conference who refuse to go this year. It's a multi-purpose arena that's poor for basketball and out in the middle of nowhere. I don't know what to expect with Rutgers and Maryland fans in the mix, but I would think attendance would be way down from previous years. Indy is a fabulous place to see a B1G Tourney, so I hope you can get out next year. With an arena built specifically for BB right in the heart of downtown with shopping, museums and restaurants within walking distance, Indy knows how to do things right.
