Now that the BIG and SEC no longer play every other conference member would a bowl matchup between 2 conference teams that did not play in the regular season be a good or bad idea?

My first impression is I would rather see that than most of the other matchups I am seeing as potential games

Maybe. Would like to see how Rutgers at full strength would do against Michigan this year.
On the other hand, even though the concept gets watered down with the numerous opt outs, it is interesting to see how the different conferences fare against each other.

I agree I was thinking it would be replacing the smaller conference teams. I think it helps the bowl itself if you had a Michigan Rutgers game instead of either having to play say an Eastern Michigan

It's also fun (as long as it is not "our" team) to see G5 teams knock off P4 teams. The MAC has a decent record of doing that. If the projected matchup between Rutgers and a B12 team (either TCU or Texas Tech), will be interested to see how a B1G defense does against a potent B12 offense.

RU vs TT is one of 3 games I am interested in watching out of all the proposed non-playoff bowls. Most of the others I may have on but no real interest.
