Camden - Manasquan

Yea, and that’s that many more games that won’t be covered, freshman games getting cancelled because there are no officials, guys moving up to varsity games that aren’t ready for it, etc (plus drive even more away). Who wins in that scenario?
So you’re saying piss poor incompetence is acceptable in referees ? Trust me you ‘ll find referees for freshmen high school games… varsity games … girls games…. their failure is unacceptable regardless. To say this isn’t similar to many other areas in this country . Mediocrity and the inability to be accountable for one’s actions.

If this huge backlash in the news ( which several claim) is happening maybe they should take that win back and award Manasquan the game IT actually won ? Those 3 clowns should never be allowed into a high school gym in NJ.
You’re really not following here are you?

Rule#1 in sports never leave the game in the refs hands that's exactly what Manasquan did. Was it a horrible call absolutely no doubt. But when your up 10 in full control in the 4th quarter and u try to bleed the clock for 8 mins and don't score in the 4th quarter I have a tough time feeling sorry for u. That coach let the kids down bigtime Camden was done. There best player was playing with the Flu he clearly was fatigued and not his normal self. It's not like Camden came back on a big run. Manasquan let there foot off the gas and basically gave them the game.
Stupid take on the issue

I know that Athletic Directors and Assignors don’t have a “trust me you’ll find referees” attitude with where things are at today, and the trend it’s been on. I’m sure these guys won’t be getting state assignments for a while and they blew a huge call, but throwing the baby out with the bath water does no good.

Everyone thinks that all referees suck these days…Big Ten basketball and football refs are some of the most highly regarded in the world, and many think they suck…fans think NFL refs suck. Fans think high school refs suck. Where is it that all of the great sports officials are hiding?

In the videos, the ref that made the final call was the ref that made the initial call...it was the trail ref on the table side that was vocal about the basket being no good, but it's not his call in the end, he can't "overrule" (again, unless something has changed since the last time I did a basketball game, which I now realize was like 19 years ago), and he didn't made an actual call.
Wrong.

Explain then…what part is wrong? has the Fed mechanic changed so that refs “overrule” each other? Or was some other aspect wrong?
Yes he is the one that said no at the end but the other official was emphatically arguing that it was no good during the close up video of the conversation.

My guess is they made him say no good since he was the one that initially called it good.

Either way it was a bad call.

Nah… it’s gotten minimal pub… if the reverse had happened it would have created a National outcry. The problem was caused by piss poor decision makers and not the teams playing.

If he’s not fired, I’ll post it everywhere when I find out , which isn’t hard to get that info TBH

The dude should be banned for good
Cool, and if/when his name is posted, NJ will lose that many more officials…why should freshmen or middle school teams need officials anyway? The trend is really bad, and people like you will only make it worse.

He’s the one that said no good because it’s his call…he’s the only one that can change it. There are mechanics to cover it, so you don’t have to guess. Unfortunately, he didn’t stick with his call.

Exactly my point....

When you watch the 3 refs standing around and discuss the call, the other referee emphatically argues that it was not good and therefore manipulated the call.

The original call should stand. I cannot believe he did not hold his ground.

I referee HS Varsity soccer and I understand how hard it is to find capable refs. Right now we have games that we cannot get coverage.

There is going to be questions about this game, the refs , and why if there is recorded video why is it not used like college and pros. Bad enough that college refs suck and as a Rutgers fan we have seen it too often.

Agree completely…but it’s still not his call, and the other guy had to take that info and change his call.

Bad calls happen. Hopefully the Camden team makes the most of their good fortune. The manasquan team got screwed but it’s a good life lesson. Hopefully they use this as fuel, repsond positively to this adversity and get back next year.

It's a stupid take to beat a team and leave no doubt got it haha. You just want to cry and complain and leave the facts out of what happened because u didn't watch the game. You don't lose a game because of 1 play.

You're arguing with perhaps the biggest idiot on these boards. Don't bother.

I don’t watch enough high school ball but with no shot clock isn’t this the strategy a lot of coaches would take in this situation?

Especially up big on an extremely quick and athletic Camden squa

This!! It was a really bad call, but the Manasquan coach blew that game.

From APP.com

“What the NJSIAA does not address in the statement was the fact that it used video replay earlier this year a day after a game between Atlantic City and Mainland. In that case, the NJSIAA did use video replay to make a decision to disqualify Atlantic City from the NJSIAA tournament, reviewing Atlantic City's 49-48 win on Jan. 10 over Mainland Regional. It was determined that five players left the bench during an incident near the end of the third quarter. Any player who leaves the bench is supposed to be ejected, and any team with three or more ejections for a season is not eligible for the state tournament.”

Also said it used it in baseball to determine a pitch count last season.

So the NJSIAA uses video replay when it chooses to?

It got a lot of air time on the Mad Dog Sirius show. It got a lot of pub regardless, and extraordinary for a HS basketball game.

I heard Manasquan basically cheats the residency rule for good athletes by having many kids use their family shore home as a primary in order to attend Manasquan high school . Supposedly , this has been going on for years and knows this and everyone knows this and looks the other way . Any truth to this ?

And no this doesn’t change the fact they really won that game.

who's whining or complaining? The point of the story is the refs blew the call and yes, they actually did lose the game because of that one play. If it was called right, they win, it wasn't so they lost.

I find this hard to believe but even if its true that would mean the student is living in the house, which is certainly allowed if its their home.

I’ve heard this too for many years as well. from good sources too. It’s not a shock that they are always really good every year. This goes on in other places too. Cough, Elizabeth among others. It 100 percent not a level playing field for all the public’s who do it the right way.

I heard this from someone in the coaching community . But maybe he just has an axe to grind with squan.

Family would still be paying property taxes towards Manasquan high .

I’ve heard this from multiple people in the coaching community as well and they don’t even play manasquan.

Once again plum nails it lol !!

Kinda sad no one on this board knows about this . I have no ties to squan.
, but yet it was one of the first things I heard last night ! There are no tears for Manasquan in the NJ coaching community among some of their rivals for this loss.
I did go to the squan tavern once in my life !

But if I own a house in the town and I'm paying taxes don't I have the ability to send my child to that school? Regardless I'm sure its very isolated. How many families that own a beach house in Squan also happen to have a son thats a great basketball player?

No they didnt they 4 quarters to show they were better. You don't leave the game in the refs hands EVER!!!!!!!! They should have put the game away they didn't oh well sometimes you gotta learn a lesson the hard way. Blame refs is for any loss is a cop out when your team didn't handle business. We know refs miss calls so why cry and complain when it happens to you. LEAVE NO DOUBT
