Camden - Manasquan

But if I own a house in the town and I'm paying taxes don't I have the ability to send my child to that school? Regardless I'm sure its very isolated. How many families that own a beach house in Squan also happen to have a son thats a great basketball player?
I never said it was only that. I’ve heard other stuff too from different people. Also, it's not just Manasquan, its other towns that go there too. They have 8 beach towns that go to the school.

From APP.com

“What the NJSIAA does not address in the statement was the fact that it used video replay earlier this year a day after a game between Atlantic City and Mainland. In that case, the NJSIAA did use video replay to make a decision to disqualify Atlantic City from the NJSIAA tournament, reviewing Atlantic City's 49-48 win on Jan. 10 over Mainland Regional. It was determined that five players left the bench during an incident near the end of the third quarter. Any player who leaves the bench is supposed to be ejected, and any team with three or more ejections for a season is not eligible for the state tournament.”

Also said it used it in baseball to determine a pitch count last season.

So the NJSIAA uses video replay when it chooses to?
Uh oh

Bad calls happen. Hopefully the Camden team makes the most of their good fortune. The manasquan team got screwed but it’s a good life lesson. Hopefully they use this as fuel, repsond positively to this adversity and get back next year.
A good life lesson? That is something which sounds comforting at the time but ultimately it is an overused excuse. Yes I would agree people make mistakes as we saw in this game however the life lesson is short lived for most of those Manasquan kids. Someone at state level needs to step up and rectify what happened so as this does not occur again.

No they didnt they 4 quarters to show they were better. You don't leave the game in the refs hands EVER!!!!!!!! They should have put the game away they didn't oh well sometimes you gotta learn a lesson the hard way. Blame refs is for any loss is a cop out when your team didn't handle business. We know refs miss calls so why cry and complain when it happens to you. LEAVE NO DOUBT
This just wasn’t a missed call… it was more than that.

Interesting the Camden coach here obviously knows who Derryk Sellers (NJSIAA rep) is and literally pushing him into the coaches huddle to dispute the call.

Bad look sore loser mentality here. Waste time and money and our court system.

What else have you heard ?

I have no idea what the NJSIAA rule is on vacation homes vs primary residences. But people in the coaching community out there think Manasquan is very shady in this area.

Is it any different than college sports, where everyone thinks that their school does things the right way, but all of their rivals are shady?

Already posted and as I stated Camden would be doing the EXACT same thing if they were only the other side of things.

And they would have some very high powered politicians fighting for them.

It would actually be a much bigger story than it currently is if things were reversed.

I agree

It was a missed call human error it happens. Trying to dribble out 8 mins and not scoring in the 4th quarter put your team in that situation.
You can say what you want but this was not human error. This ref cheated. He either cheated or was not paying attention. If he was not paying attention he should not have overruled the other ref who clearly saw it and called it right. He not only made the correct call but he adamantly said the basket counted. The ref who overuled it was the farthest from the play AND never made a call. Just stood there watching. When you watch the video it is obvious.

You have never seen a missed call like this in your life. That is how bad it was.

You make up any excuse on what mannasquan could have done to win but the truth is they did just enough to win and the ref cheated.

I don’t know . All I know is I was told Manasquan is notorious for this in among the high school community.

People really think refs come to cheat kids is beyond insane. The facts are Manasquan blew the game also most of u didn't even see the game that's a whole other issue on here. Was it a bad call yes but Manasquan has to also take accountability also. I would never ever want be in a game that refs can dictate the outcome on a final play. If that final play as a coach didn't go in my favor because of a bad call I wouldn't be upset. I go into every game knowing refs mess up so why complain. LEAVE NO DOUBT!

Didn’t see the post scrolled up quick must’ve missed it.

Yes that would be a sore loser mentality and a waste of resources had Camden done the same thing. Not sure they would have but certainly possible.

Not sure why it would be a bigger story. Already a big one.

Is it so hard to understand that you can’t change one call just because it’s at the end of game because of all the other calls that go unchanged before it?

Yep...plus, my favorite part of the lawsuit is the contention that the referees "left the court". They were on the sideline in front of the table. If that's "leaving the court", then they leave the court a dozen times every game.

The only person who thought the shot was too late was the one official. Even the Camden team knew that they had lost. Everybody else too. What does such a clearly incorrect call that came at the end of the game and decided the game do to the integrity of the sport and New Jersey high school basketball ? Especially when the "error" is so easily corrected.

according to one poster its because Squan went into stall mode, no other reason

Not saying I agree but it happens everywhere. Camden is probably most egregious.

At least Manasquan collects the out of district tuition when it applies.

Tuition students at public schools has been around for a while now.

It’s not just an athletic thing either…

Anyone who watched the video can clearly see that Manasquan scored one more point than Camden and should be advancing to the next round of the tournament. Letting such an obvious error....one that clearly affected the outcome of the game... stand makes NJ basketball a joke.
